The Glory Banner Cross of Glory Lutheran Church (ELCA), a Wildfire Congregation August 2015 Cross of Glory To Pine Ridge Reservation August 2 ~ 8 Please pray for our kids and adult leaders During this important week! 1

For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever and his faithfulness to all generations. Psalm 100:5 Looking Ahead to Fall Summer has been fairly intense around Cross of Glory! Between Safari Search, summer youth, the garage sale and all the usual activities, I m looking forward to a quieter August! But along with the other staff and leadership of Cross of Glory, I m also starting to think and plan for fall. Here are a few of the things I am looking forward to as we prepare for the launch of the program year: 1. A rehabilitated organ: Phase 6 work continues on the organ throughout August. We hope to have the work complete by early fall and have begun to think about ways to celebrate with a concert series. 2. A new youth space: With a growing youth program, the staff and council have been working to consider how to make some more space available for programming. We have had two meetings so far with the leadership of Faith Healing about how to more fully utilize the original sanctuary space. We are planning to change out the lighting, protect the windows and make the space available for a variety of purposes including youth activities. As we get the worship schedules and spaces figured out for the fall, we hope to return to our regular schedule of 9 and 11. 3. Adult education and small groups: After a very different rhythm this summer, I am looking forward to restarting our bible studies and adult education as well as considering some new small groups that might be a blessing to our life together. 4. Choir and Bells: We have had wonderful music this summer but I always look forward to choir and bells coming back! We hope to boost our children s choir program this fall with the addition of a professional director as well. Peace, Pastor Doug 2

50 + and Friends August is here and I am sorry the trip to the arboretum had to be canceled. There just weren t enough people to go. On September 9 th we will head out to Lake Minnetonka and Lafayette Bay. We will board the historic Steamboat Minnehaha for a 1 ½ hour tour to see the beautiful homes around the bay. The streetcar boat was raised from the bottom of the lake and refurbished by the members of the transportation historical society. After our tour we will go to Bayside Grill for a choice of a turkey or ham sandwich for lunch. We leave church at 9:15am. On Wednesday, October 7 th, we go to Belle Plain where we will tour the Hooper-Bowler-Hillstrom house, home of the five holer-two story outhouse. Then we will move on for a short visit to the Episcopal Church. From there we go to Jordon and Emma Krumbee s Orchard. We ll have a wagon ride through the orchard and time to view the scarecrows built by organizations and individuals. Lunch will be on your own in the shop where you will find brats, corn dogs, chicken salad, soup, pie and drinks to choose from. There are apples to buy if you wish. On the way home we ll make a short stop at the World s Largest Candy Store where you ll find all the old penny candy you remember from when you were a kid. We leave church at 9:00am. After our last trip, I talked to Tom. Osseo Bus no longer has any large buses only 20 passengers. So Tom will no longer be our driver. I have booked buses for the rest of the year from Barthel Charters the bus we had to the pops concert. On October 4 and 5 we have a trip to Black Bear Casino with Tourco. I have 20 places reserved. So far we have 12 people signed up. September 1 st is the deadline to register. can! Come and join us when you Marian Priest 6

On Tuesday, August 18 th, at 9:45am our combined circles will meet in the Library for our third session on giving. The subject of our Bible study is God Loves a Cheerful Giver. Focus Verse: 2 Corinthians 9:7 Each of you must have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion for God loves a cheerful giver. In this session we will look at Paul s letter to the church at Corinth from which we get one of the most succinct and upbeat slogans about giving: God Loves a Cheerful Giver. Fall Bible Study ~ Three Sessions Liv Anders, pastor of Salem Lutheran Church of Spokane, Washington brings us a three session study on speed and slowness, examining how the Kingdom of God moves slowly, yet we are asked to move with ever greater speed. All women are welcome! Our group Bible study is like our individual circle group studies. We have Bible study, treats, coffee and fellowship. If you are not a member of a circle, this would be a good time to come and see what we are all about! 7
