T H E J O U R N E Y O F F A I T H W I T H Fr. Matthew Oakland In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth and all that is in them. This world, however, became fallen, and so God sends His Son to earth to bring about the New Creation giving us with His grace the gift of new life. With His coming, our salvation draws near! Redemption is at hand! Today we heard again from the prophet Isaiah. The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me; he has sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor, to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to the prisoners, to announce a year of favor from the LORD and a day of vindication by our God. Isaiah s writings contain many prophecies of the coming of the Messiah. The words we hear today will be read by Jesus Himself in the synagogue at Nazareth as He announces Today this scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing. (Luke 4:21) Jesus was anointed by the Father to bring Good News, to heal, to proclaim, to set free. This was His mission, this was the reason He took on our flesh and was born of the Virgin at Bethlehem. We are quickly preparing for His birth into the world. But we are also preparing to join with Mary in giving birth to Jesus in our own lives. In Baptism, we become one with Christ the adopted children of God and coheirs to His Kingdom. So Jesus mission becomes our own. At this time of year, we often call to mind those in need. Whether it be through homeless outreach given the cold and the storms, or whether it be the Giving Tree or similar programs those in material need are before our minds. And that is good as we respond to the call of God to love our brothers and sisters, and we reach out to them with material assistance. The vast number of items in the Parish Office basement right now are quite simply staggering numbering in the hundreds because of your generosity! While it is true that there is only one Savior, we are called to continue His work and make His presence known. Just as we open up our lives to His grace and mercy and love, we must share that grace and mercy and love with our brothers and sisters. As we prepare for His coming, ask God for some guidance about those with whom Jesus might be calling you to share the Good News. To whom is Jesus calling you to bring glad tidings and Good News? Whose heart is broken, and in need of the healing touch of Christ? Who is a prisoner, or captive, and in need of liberty and freedom in Christ? Who needs to hear that message of a year of favor from the Lord, a blessed and graced season? Who needs to hear the message of the victory of our God? This Spirit of the Lord is God is upon us - upon you and upon me. Let us be Christ to the world. Reminder: Holy Day Schedule I look forward to celebrating the joy of the Nativity of Jesus Christ with those of you who will be in town for the Holy Days. Here is our schedule for the HOLY DAY SCHEDULE December 23rd December 24th December 25th 4th Sunday of Advent as well as the Christmas Masses. G R O W I N G I N C H R I S T Holy Rosary Catholic School SPIRIT AND MIND ignited Christmas Break is Around the Corner! We are approaching the last few days of school in 2017! Our Christmas Tree Lot closes at Noon on Sunday, 12/17. There has been so much excitement at the school getting ready for Christmas Break. Preschool (3/4 s and Pre-Kindergarten) presented their Christmas Program Wednesday night to their families. Thursday evening, grades K -8 performed in our school s Christmas Program. Students in band (6 th -8 th ) performed first, followed by our other grades presenting songs to celebrate the meaning of Advent. Friday morning Kindergarteners and their 8 th grade buddies built and decorated graham cracker houses together. Students will officially be on Christmas Break beginning at Noon on Tuesday, 12/19. For the next two weeks, students will be enjoying time with family and friends. Some will travel and others will be enjoying the holidays locally. Warm wishes to all as we countdown the final days to Christmas. At Holy Rosary School, tradition and innovation converge to provide a leading-edge education that is grounded in the Catholic faith. January 31 st is our deadline for financial aid applications and supporting documents for the 2018/2019 school year. January 28 th is our next Open House from 10:30am-1:30pm. Holy Rosary School has rolling admissions, and is accepting applications now, with individual tours available. For more information, contact the School Office: 206-937- 7255 or admissions@holyrosaryws.org P A R I S H & C O M M U N I T Y N E W S All Giving Tree Gifts are Due This Weekend! A Tip on Caring for Our Common Home This Christmas, save wrapping paper for later use; reuse old wrapping paper for this year's gifts or try using a fun alternative such as color newspaper comics. Instead of a material gift, consider donating on someone's behalf to a food bank, homeless shelter or other charity. Who Likes Decorating for Christmas??? December 17 from Noon to 4pm: Help is needed to assist with setting up trees, stringing lights on a few trees, installing the crèche, stringing garland and hanging wreaths December 24 at 10am to 1pm: Help is needed to take down the Advent banners and install Christmas banners and wreaths, garland and lights above confessionals, trees and lights in choir loft, set up poinsettias, and finish the crèche. Volunteers are welcome for all or part of the time! Please contact Judi Qualy-White: jqualy@comcast.net; Russell White: qualywhite@comcast.net; or Terry Williams: terry.williams3907@gmail.com and let us know if you ll help (or just show up)!
