Grade Two Activity Book Muslim Congress 2012

I N T R O D U C T I O N This activity book, developed by Muslim Congress, is an attempt to serve as a compliment to the 2 nd grade textbook. Children will find that the exercises covered in this activity book are not only meaningful, but will make the goal of the course possible. While most of the exercises are built to provide fun activities, the primary purpose of this activity book is to train the minds of our children to think along the lines of the content that is covered in the curriculum. One can easily notice that the activities are engaging and do not require a great deal of time. These activities also do not require a particular setting and can be done anywhere and would make a great companion for long trips. The key purpose in adopting the fun format for the review of the actual course material is to develop interest among children and enhance the desire to go through the exercises. Research tells us that work sheets that have attractive colors and activities that children enjoy have a much longer period of retention than the traditional exercises. Another aim of this activity book is for the parents to spend quality time with their children. While the activities do not require more than 15 minutes per activity, the benefits of this engagement are manifold. We would highly encourage you to provide us candid feedback so that we can continue to improve this very important task. The Muslim Congress Curriculum Team Page 5

Choose YES or NO and fill in the blanks. Activity 1/1 Lesson 1 Allah, the Exalted is our Lord This is a picture of a Do you think that it made itself? Yes No Was it made by someone? Yes No If so, who made it? This is the picture of the universe that we are a part of. If a chair cannot make itself and needs someone to make it, is it possible that an entire universe can come into existence by itself? Yes No Do you believe that there is indeed a Creator? Yes No If so, who is He? Look at the picture of this top. Can it start spinning on its own? Yes No Do you believe that someone has to spin it? Yes No If a small toy such as a top needs someone to operate it, can you imagine this universe operating on its own? Yes No If not, then who is operating it? What is this a picture of? Is it moving? Yes No How can you tell? How many people do you think are operating it? Page 7

Think before you answer, and write down what would happen if there was more than one operator: CONCLUSION: 1. Nothing can be created by itself there is always a creator. 2. There is indeed a Creator of this Universe and He is none but Allah جل جلاله. 3. If a top cannot operate without someone, we conclude that this Universe also has an operator. 4. Multiple operators of a train may want the train to go in different directions/ speeds, thus the train will not be able to go anywhere. The smooth operation of this Universe proves that there is only one Operator of the universe. Page 8

Read the story below and indicate with a check mark or an X whether Muhammad followed the Islamic etiquettes of visiting. Activity 1/1 Manners of visiting others Lesson 11 Muhammad is a good friend of Reza and lives very close to him. One night, around 10p.m. Muhammad decided to visit his friend. He put on his shoes and went over to Reza s house. He rang the bell. No one responded in the next five seconds so he rang the bell again twice. Still no one answered after five seconds. He was feeling impatient so he rang the bell again. When Reza s older brother opened the door, Reza said Salaam to Reza s older brother and asked if Reza was there? He was so anxious to meet Reza, he kept looking past Reza s brother. Reza s brother replied to the Salaam and told him that Reza was getting ready for bed and that he would call him. Muhammad took off his shoes and went to the living room and as he entered, he said Salaam to his parents who were sitting on the couch watching TV. He sat down on the corner of another couch. As soon as Reza came, Muhammad got up and yelled, Hey Wassup. Raza was also happy to see him and in return he smiled and sat next to Muhammad on the couch. Soon Reza s older brother entered the living room and, since the couches were occupied, sat down on the carpeted floor. It was already 10:40p by now, but Muhammad wanted to sit longer, even though they had school the next day. Finally, Reza told him that it was time for bed and excused himself. Muhammad was disappointed. His disappointment was shown in the way he stormed out of their house. Reza said Fi Amanillah to him and saw him off at the main door. Page 20

Muhammad visits Reza or Islamic Etiquettes of visiting Pick an appropriate time. Make an appointment. Be on time. If running late, notify the host. Show patience at the door. Say salaam when someone opens the door. Your Evaluation Ask permission to enter the home and be gentle as you enter or leave. As a rule, you should take off your shoes unless your host says it s OK you to keep them on. Avoid glancing unnecessarily at its interior or beyond the guests quarters. We should sit at the end of the couch, not try to squeeze in the middle. If an older person comes, we should respect them and offer our seat. Lower your voice. We should not stay too long. If the host excuses himself to entertain you, with or without a reason, accept his apology gracefully. As a host if you are not able to entertain the visitor just inform them and do not lie as this is a sign of hypocrisy. Page 21
