Vian NtegerejImana, Associate Pastor 261-1077 ext. 203 Robert Braun, Deacon OUR MISSION Saint Anthony of Padua Parish is a welcoming, loving Catholic community, centered in Christ and guided by the Holy Spirit. Together we celebrate the liturgy in prayer and sacrament; we educate our children and adults in the faith; we support and reach out to those in need. We believe the Holy Spirit is calling us to continue: to love one another as Jesus loves us, to share the word of God and to serve both within and beyond our Parish family. 2017 Catholic Ministries Appeal Stewardship reminds us to count our blessings, acknowledge God s gifts to us and express thanks to Him. We sincerely thank the households who, as good stewards, have already made a gift to the 2017 Catholic Ministries Appeal. If you have not yet had the opportunity to join in making a difference in the lives of those around us, please consider making a gift to this year s Catholic Ministries Appeal. Because of the Catholic Ministries Appeal, every year we are able to bring the Light of the Lord by serving more than 600,000 people in our Long Island Community. This support enables our children to continue to receive the gift of spiritual formation, sacramental preparation, and quality education. It allows seminarians and lay leaders to fulfill their calling to serve the community. With your support Catholic Charities can maintain its services for the poor and disadvantaged, and we can continue to reach out to our young people and others to find the best ways to guide and pass on our faith from generation to generation. You may pick up information in the back of the church, or for more information visit www.catholicministriesappeal.org or call 516-678-5800- ext. 296. As we draw near to the great feast of Easter, the Church gives us here some food for thought regarding the idea of resurrection and eternal life. Today s Gospel shares the story of a dead man who came to life again by the power of Jesus. Lazarus, who had been lying lifeless in a tomb for four days, came out of the tomb, burial cloths draped around his body, in a moment that must have been absolutely astonishing! This miracle could not have been explained by anything other than divine power over life and death. It s important to consider that this story is not so much about Jesus own resurrection but rather it is about ours. Jesus uses the occasion of this restoration of His friend, Lazarus, to teach that we all can be raised to new life through the power of the Lord. Jesus tells us that we too can overcome death by believing in Him: everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Easter, of course, will confirm for us that death has no power over the God of life. But today, during these closing days of Lent, we are reminded that we can share in this source of life by believing in Jesus. So now is a perfect time to doublecheck our faith in Him. Is it authentic? Do we really accept the supernatural reality of who Jesus is? Do we believe that He can conquer even the most frightening moment of human existence: death itself? If we find ourselves falling short of faith in these things, let us turn to the Lord and ask that He will increase our faith so that, with Martha, we can truly say, Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God. -8-

Sacrificial Giving 2015 2017 Did We Take a Step? March 26 th, 2017 $21,081.35 March 27 th, 2016 $66,295.38 (Easter Sunday) When Jesus heard about the illness of His friend Lazarus, He responded, This illness is not to end in death; rather it is for God s glory, that through it the Son of God may be glorified. Every aspect of our lives - gifts as well as sufferings - can, if surrendered to Christ, lead to blessings for ourselves and others. FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE: Our parish now offers Online Giving, a web -based electronic contribution application. Eucharistic Ministers Needed for Hospital Duty Are you a Eucharistic Minister? You are URGENTLY Needed To bring the healing and comforting presence of our Lord Jesus in the holy Eucharist to patients at Huntington Hospital. The commitment is once every four weeks for about an hour after the 9am Mass on Thursdays. This ministry is a powerful and grace filled gift. Please contact: Regina Whitaker at (631) 757-7028 Nocturnal Adoration One Hour With Him Why do members pray before the exposed sacrament? When praying before the Eucharist exposed, the mind and heart more easily give themselves to communion with Christ. By focusing attention on the sacramental sign of the memorial of the Lord in a spirit of adoration, thanksgiving, atonement, and petition, members seek to internalize and give witness to the significance of the Eucharist for Christian life. Why do members pray at night? For reasons of convenience. For many people living in a fast-paced society, a night hour is often more easily set aside for prayer than one during the day and lends itself to praying in quiet, calm, and recollection. For reasons of symbolism. Keeping vigil during the hours of the night, an ancient tradition among Christians, draws attention to God as the source of light and goodness amid human weakness and sin, and also stimulates a sense of spiritual preparedness & expectation. Can you keep watch with me for one hour? Nocturnal Adoration is an association of Catholics no age limit dedicated to prayer in the name of the whole community and of the Church, before the Blessed Eucharist, for the praise of God and for the needs of the church and the world at large. The night of adoration is the First Friday of every month. Yes, Father I would like to keep watch for one hour with the Nocturnal Adoration Society Name Address Town/State/Zip Phone Email -19-
