Assembly Bulletin June 2014 Knights of Columbus ~ 4th Degree 1st Ontario District Archbishop James V. Cleary Assembly #0857, Kingston, ON 1922 ~ 2013 Sir Knights: Our fraternal year is ending over the next few months. We have two meetings left. I am very pleased to see the unity and fraternity we have developed together. Over our last 10 months, I have viewed a large increase in the participation of all events. I also see the enjoyment taken place at our events. It is important that we love and appreciate what we do. Working for The Archbishop and our Priests and God is an honour. I thank you all for allowing me to lead such a great assembly. I have had the opportunity to meet with our Degree Captains, District Deputies, and Diocesan Director. We are all working together to set times for our 1rst, 2nd and 3 rd degrees. These degrees will be sequential to allow constant growth of the order. Coming soon, The Diocesan Director will be creating a new web page for all of The Order to access. He will be posting all upcoming events. Our summer barbecue is coming up, our Captain, will in light you shortly on this event. We have also completed our elections for next year as well. In closing please, come out to our meetings or events to meet our executive and new executive elect. Join us in our journey with our Archbishop and our Priests. God Bless us all. Sincerely, you re Navigator David Cupido Photos of Dec 8th by Fred happy From Your Editor. Thank You to those Knights who have submitted. Let Us Share Our Projects/News/Events Have a great summer This Month s Meeting at the Francis J. Your Faithful Admiral Worthy Sir Knights: Now that Lent and the Easter portion of the liturgical year have passed by for another year, let us never forget how important our relationship with our Creator is. The Lord s crucifixion and resurrection, which was carried out to save our souls for eternal life, deserves our complete love and respect for Him. As we head towards Pentecost Sunday, we should try to faithfully understand and carry out the teachings of Christ as He would have us do. The very existence of the Knights of Columbus is being threatened by a lack of success in recruitment. Councils are having a difficult time with this and consequently so are the Assemblies. As everybody knows we depend on getting new members for the 4 th degree from 3 rd degree members in the Councils. If membership in the Councils decreases that most certainly affects our membership. So it is an uphill battle all the way. The death of our members both in the Councils and Assemblies depletes the overall membership for both, especially if an equal number of new members haven t been recruited. Speaking of newly exemplified congratulate and welcome Sir Knights Michael Mombourquette, Stephen Henderson, and Richard Hale into our Assembly. We look forward to their participation in the many activities that form a part of this Assembly May their journey with us be a very productive and enjoyable experience. Sadly on the other side of the coin, God has called a few of our members to be with Him. Most recently Sir Knight, Bill Monk passed away. For 10 years Bill was the Faithful Purser of this Assembly. He was very meticulous and conscientious in handling our finances over this period. I can say that from my own experience because for 7 of those 10 years I was the Faithful Comptroller (5 years) and Faithful Navigator (2 of 3 years) working directly with him. Let us pray for him along with the many other Knights, Sir Knights and their families who have died. The Exemplification 2014 in Perth was well organized by the Archbishop J.L. Wilhelm Assembly. The actual Exemplification of the candidates was carried out in a very professional manner. The Mass at St. John the Baptist Church was celebrated by Archbishop Brendan O Brien. Our Faithful Friar, Fr. Shawn Hughes along with other priests where on the altar to assist his Grace. At the Banquet I was overwhelmed by the choices of food that there was at the buffet tables. The live band, Crooked Wood, kept us entertained and up dancing after the dinner with their excellent selection of music. All in all I would rate this Exemplification among the very best that we have ever had. I can say that because Rena and I have only missed one Exemplification in my 17 years of service with this Assembly. Thanks to our hosts along with our Worthy Master, Tony Noonan, and his wife, Jackie, for a very satisfying and enjoyable weekend of fraternity and good times. Please keep Jackie in your prayers because she is going through some difficult health issues. In closing, I look forward to the challenges for myself and the other Officers who have been elected to serve you in this upcoming fraternal year. Vivat Jesus
