Father Dave R. Ireland, STD Pastor Father Thomas J. Winkel, M.Div Senior Parochial Vicar Fr. Hubert Stambuli In residence Deacon David N. Chordas SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JANUARY 17, 2016 Permanent Deacon MISSION STATEMENT Through our Roman Catholic Faith, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish is committed to welcoming, engaging, and serving a diverse population in the Heights and Hillcrest areas. Established in 2010, through a merger of St. Margaret Mary and St. Gregory the Great Parishes, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish is a vibrant center of Catholic worship, education, Faith formation, service, evangelization, and community life. Through these apostolates, we seek to enable our members to establish and nurture a relationship with Jesus Christ and carry forth His mission in the World. 1545 S. Green Rd. Phone: 216.382.7601 S. Euclid, OH 44121 FAX: 216.382.4992 e-mail: office@sacredheartofjesusparish.org website: www.sacredheartofjesusparish.org

PAGE 2 Parish Office Hours: Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday Office is CLOSED Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Bulletin Deadline: the Pastor s Desk My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, God bless our children who made their First Penance on Saturday. May they continue to grow in holiness and in their love of Jesus. Congratulations, also, to the boys and girls who entered the Respect Life Essay Contest. The names of the winners can be found on page 6 of today s bulletin. Thank you for your prayers and kind comments following the recent announcement of the merger of Sacred Heart of Jesus Academy and Saint Clare School into Corpus Christi Academy. Please see the insert in today s bulletin called Corpus Christi Chatter for further updates. Also, please continue to keep this intention in your prayer. One question that came up was: Will there still be a Gala? The answer is ABSOLUTLY. We want to celebrate the 90 years of Catholic Education that we have already completed and continue the mission of educating our young people into the future. Your participation helps to make this a reality. And another question: Where are the recycle bins? Sadly, because the cost to repair the parking lot where the bins were located (I am sure you ve noticed the huge ruts) was not offset by the money generated by this recycling project, the Finance Council concluded it would be best to have the bins removed from our property. Thank you for your support of this project and for your understanding of our decision. Please consider taking your paper to the bins at St. Clare s or to Notre Dame College (behind the former Regina High School). May God s blessings be yours this week. Father Ireland Friday, 5:00 p.m. New Parishioners Registration after Sunday Mass in the Parish Office, or by appointment. Marriages: Engaged couples should make their arrangements with the priest at least 6 to 12 months in advance of their wedding. Funerals: Call the Parish Office to arrange date and time. Holy Communion for the Homebound: Please call the Parish Office whenever a family member is seriously ill or hospitalized. Music Director: Mark Langley (216.215.4382) THE SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE Offerings: 1/10/2016 ~ $10,432.25 1/11/2015 ~ $11,553.99 12-wk Avg. $10,942.00 12-wk Avg. $12,274.00 Direct deposit for the month of December ~ $2,505.00 Father Ireland The following were written by the children who used their envelopes this week (13 envelopes were received from the children of the Academy & PSR). These good deeds for God statements are duplicated here as the children wrote them: We are happy to see that more of our parishioners are taking advantage of direct deposit for their offertory giving. They tell us they wish they had arranged for automatic withdrawl years ago as it eliminates that lastminute rush to find the envelope, the checkbook, or the wallet to count out the cash before rushing out for Mass. If you would like to know the details of automatic giving, please call our bookkeeper, Eileen Gerome, at 216.382.7601, for details. She is in the office Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday only. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.
