CRS Rice Bowl 2015 Bulletin Announcements Sunday Before Ash Wednesday Hungering for the Journey Join our parish community and more than 13,000 Catholic communities across the United States in a life-changing Lenten journey with CRS Rice Bowl. Pick up your family s rice bowl from [LOCATION] on [DATE], and don t forget to download the CRS Rice Bowl app! Remember, your Lenten sacrifices change lives. First Week of Lent Hungering for a Better Life Our journey with CRS Rice Bowl begins in Tanzania, where a simple soybean is changing lives! What actions can you take this Lent to change lives at home and around the world? Second Week of Lent Hungering for a Bountiful Earth This week CRS Rice Bowl takes us to the coffee highlands of Nicaragua, where we re called to protect both the goodness of creation and the livelihoods of struggling families. How will this week s fast remind us of the sacredness of God s creation and our duty to protect it? Third Week of Lent Hungering for a Season of Hope The next stop on our CRS Rice Bowl journey is the African nation, Niger, where we re reminded that life s joys and challenges are often seasonal. This week we pray for people who struggle to feed their families during the hungry season when food is in short supply and we commit to acting for the common good. Fourth Week of Lent Hungering for Peace We journey with CRS Rice Bowl to Lebanon to be present to a people who themselves are on a journey. Here we meet a family of Syrian refugees, a family perhaps not so unlike our own. We are challenged through our almsgiving this week to reach out to those who are forced to flee their homes, who are seeking shelter in a land of peace. Fifth Week of Lent Hungering for a Healthy Harvest CRS Rice Bowl brings our Lenten journey back to Africa this week, to the Democratic Republic of Congo. We join our fasting in solidarity with people who go hungry, and we remember in prayer the importance of building a community that is willing to support those most in need. Palm Sunday Hungering for Seeds of Home We follow Jesus this week on our Lenten journey as he enters into Jerusalem, a community he knew well. CRS Rice Bowl asks us, too, to prayerfully enter into our own communities, to find those who are hungry and thirsty, who need our help. How does our Lenten journey motivate us to serve those we encounter in our daily lives? Easter Sunday Hungering for Celebration! We prayed, fasted and gave alms and now we celebrate! Our Lenten journey with CRS Rice Bowl ends in our own hearts, where Jesus reigns forever. Let us rejoice in our risen Lord and in the lives we ve changed this Lent in Tanzania, Nicaragua, Niger, Lebanon, the Democratic Republic of Congo and all over the world! Don t forget to turn in your CRS Rice Bowl [PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS]. After Easter Messaging Our community changed lives this Lent, and CRS Rice Bowl wants to say THANK YOU!! Don t forget to turn in your CRS Rice Bowl [PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS].

Each month, discover simple ways for your family to Keep it Catholic! Bringing a new Catholic Family Discipleship Challenge and a new Catholic theme each month. Catholic Family Discipleship Challenge # 5 Share Your Story of Faith... Jesus taught by sharing stories. Bring the faith to life by sharing your stories with family, friends & acquaintances. Have you ever felt God s presence in your life? Or had a special encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist? Has God spoken to you through a friend or through the words of a poem or a homily or Holy Scripture? Has God answered a special prayer? Or granted you the peace that surpasses all understanding? Do you know that Children are our future? Marriage is a community of life & love. When spouses become parents, the connection between God s creation & the marriage sacrament is made visible. This connection is like links in a chain that span the generations as each new generation of children grows up, marries and has its own children. Children shape our future just as they are shaped by their families. Catholic parents are called to nurture and usher their children into their faith community s relationship with God. The family becomes a domestic church in which children discover that God loves them & has a special plan for each of their lives. That is why Love is our Mission. Help bring the faith to life by sharing your own story. Excerpted from: Love Is Our Mission. Get your copy at osv.com Keep it Catholic! Prayer for the World and for Our Sisters National Catholic Sisters Week Gracious and all-loving God, we thank you that You call us to be one with You and to be, in every way of life, doers of Your Word and not hearers only. In this National Catholic Sisters Week, we celebrate women religious who consecratetheir lives in poverty, celibacy and obedience. We thank you for their character, courage and commitment to live in solidaritywith those who live in poverty and suffer violence in everyday living. Your love and grace inspire them. Their joy and total generosity inspire us. Together they form a global sisterhood whose network of prayer and ministry call all of us to broader and deeper understanding and communal responsibility for the common good of our Earth community. May their powerful stories ignite the hearts of girls and women today to answer your call to live a life dedicated to the common good through living in community and sharing ministry. May religious life abound in vitality so that the boundless power of your love and care will be known more and more throughout our world. In every way of living we are all called to be poor in spirit, faithful in heart, and obedient to Your Love. Strengthen in each of us a deeper commitment to our own calling, that all may be one with each other and with You. We ask this in Jesus name and the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Prayers These prayers and intercessions are intended to bring sisters to light throughout the liturgical year. Advent Schools Heavenly Father, This is a season for waiting and wondering. Help us to prepare our hearts for Jesus birth by praying and serving others. Show us the example of those who have dedicated their lives to our Church, especially the Catholic sisters who are such kind, gentle role models. Help us to be more kind and gentle to our friends, our teachers, our parents and our brothers and sisters. Show us the way of the Lord both now and forever. Amen. Gracious God, In this season of Advent, quiet our minds and open our hearts. Show us how to wait and wonder, to pray and hope, and to put others before ourselves. May we learn from those who serve you fully, the consecrated religious, so that we too may offer ourselves in service. Show us the way, and deepen our trust in you, we pray this through Christ, our Lord. Amen. Heavenly Father, In a world of instant gratification, teach us how to wait. Give us the spirit of Advent. Show us the power of silence. Make us peace keepers and bridge builders, like the Catholic sisters who knit together fractured communities. Create room in our hearts for the coming Savior. Help us to prepare the way! We ask this in the name of Jesus our brother and the power of the Spirit, both now and forever. Amen. Hospitals Loving and Healing God, We call upon you this season to grant us the spirit of Advent. Fill our hearts with patience and serenity. Teach us to be unhurried, to wait and hope and trust. Christmas Schools Heavenly Father, We rejoice this Christmas season in the birth of the Jesus Christ! Our savior lives among us! Heavenly Father, At Christmas we celebrate your incredible gift: You have come to live among us! May we treat everyone we encounter from siblings to strangers as bearers of Jesus. Show us the way of the Catholic sisters whose life mission is to serve their neighbors in need. Embolden us to follow their lead! We pray through Christ, our Lord. Amen. Heavenly Father, You sent your son the King of Kings in the most surprising fashion, an infant born to a teenaged peasant in a lowly manger. His birth rewrote the history books and redeemed the world. Teach us to believe in miracles, both big and small. Deepen our trust in you, the God of Surprises. Thank you for the model of religious women and men who have born the love of God in their hearts to all those in need. Inspire us to answer your call to discipleship as religious sisters and brothers for those in need today. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Hospitals Heavenly Father, The Christmas miracle is the radical gift of Emanuel, God among us. Open our eyes to see the face of God in every patient we serve. We pray in the name of Jesus, Your Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen. Parishes Heavenly Father, The heavenly hosts rejoice in Christ s birth, and we lift up our hearts too. Open our eyes this Christmas season to our rich Catholic legacy: Mary s brave fiat; the early apostles tireless efforts; the teachers and scholars, parents and nuns who knit together our Church. Bless your church during this year for consecrated year to share the stories of religious men and women with all in our parish community so that those whom God is calling will find support and encouragement among our parish community. Hospitals Compassionate and Merciful God, We pause from our work today to thank you for the gift of Catholic sisters, who breathed life into so many hospitals across the nation. The clarity of their vision, the power of their prayer and the force of their will built life-saving healthcare networks. Guide us to serve in their spirit. May we exercise the virtues embodied by women religious: gentle, sensitive, strong, patient, persistent, intuitive and compassionate. May we approach our work as a ministry, inspired by the Catholic sisters who are angels of healing, of hospitality, and of hope. Open our eyes so that we may see every patient as a whole person, with physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs. Bless our hands and each person they touch. We pray this in the name of Christ, our Lord. Amen. Parishes Loving and Gracious God, You express your love by putting special people in our lives and today we thank you for a very special group, the Catholic sisters you have given to the church. They fulfill a unique role, devoting their lives to building the Kingdom of God here on Earth. We ask you to bless all women religious during this Year of Consecrated Life. Guide them, strengthen them, sustain them. Shower them with your grace. And we ask that you may open our eyes to the beauty of their work, so that we too may draw close to you in prayer and reach out, in turn, to help neighbors in need. Give us the courage to answer the unique call you have for each of our lives. It is the path to great joy. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Christ and the Holy Spirit, both now and forever.
