The Father is seeking for the true worshipers who worship Him in spirit and reality (John 4:23-24; Deut. 12:5-8; 1 Pet. 2:5) A. Worship is unto the Father (John 4:23-24) 1. The way of the old covenant (Deut. 12:1-8) 2. The way of the new covenant (1 Pet. 2:5) B. In Spirit 1. Born of the Spirit of God in their human spirit (John 3:5-6; 1:12-13) 2. Man s human spirit made alive (1 Thess. 5:23; Zech. 12:1; Eph. 2:1-5) 3. A true Jew (Gal. 4:28-29; Rom. 2:28-29) a. Not outwardly in the flesh nor of the letter b. But inwardly in the heart and in spirit c. Who worship God in spirit, rejoice in Jesus Christ and have no confidence in the flesh (Phil. 3:3) Whose praise (or approval) is not from men but from God (Rom. 2:29) 4. Living and walking in spirit (Gal. 5:16, 25; Rom. 8:1, 4-5, 12-14) C. In reality Christ is the reality of all things (Col. 2:17) 1. Greek word ἀληθείᾳ (alétheia) means not merely truth as spoken, but reality 2. Jesus Christ the spiritual reality of all the truths in the Bible (John 14:1-6) a. All positive things recorded in the Scriptures are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ (Col. 2:16-17) b. The way is the true way of worshiping the Father c. The truth is Christ as the reality of all the offerings d. The life is the Spirit (John 6:63)
e. The Anointing teaches us all things (1 John 2:27; John 14:26) f. The Spirit transforms us into His image (2 Cor. 3:17) II. The Father s chosen place His holy temple (Deut. 12:5) A. Jerusalem the unique place chosen by the Lord God among the 12 tribes (Deut. 12:5, 11, 14, 18, 21, 26; 14:23, 24-25; 15:19-20; 16:6-7, 11, 15-16) B. The church today is the heavenly Jerusalem (Gal. 4:25-26; Heb. 11:10, 16; 12:22) C. Not according to man s choice 1. No one should do what is right in his own eyes (Deut. 12:8) 2. Not according to the ways of the nations (Deut. 12:2-4) a. Having different places of worship upon the high mountains and hills and under every leafy tree b. Each having his own altar with pillars c. Each building his own shrine d. Having the carved images of their gods (idols) e. Designating names of their places of worship f. God s people must destroy all the above ways of worship 3. What we think is right, may not be what God wants (Matt. 7:21-23) 4. Seek the place where the LORD your God chooses, out of all your tribes, to put His name for His dwelling place; and there you shall go (Deut. 12:5) The church today is the heavenly Jerusalem (Heb. 12:22-23; 11:10; 1 Pet. 2:4-7) D. The reality of the house of the living God, the spiritual temple, God s dwelling place (1 Tim. 3:15-16; Eph. 2:21-22; 1 Cor. 6:19-20) 1. Growing up into Christ, as the Head, over His church (Eph. 4:13; 2:21-22) 2. Keeping to the true oneness in the Spirit (Eph. 4:3-6) - 2 -
III. To offer up Christ as the spiritual sacrifices to the Father (1 Pet. 2:5) A. Christ the reality of all the offerings in Leviticus chapters 1-7 (Heb. 10:5-10) 1. The burnt offering Christ the One in Whom God is well pleased (Matt. 3:17; 17:5; 12:18; 2 Pet. 1:17) a. Coming only to do God s will (John 4:34; 5:19, 30, 36; 6:38; Heb. 10:5-10) b. Living a life that is absolutely one with the Father (John 10:30, 37-38) c. Being obedient even unto the death on the cross (Matt. 26:39; John 18:11; Phil. 2:5-8) d. Being exalted by God (Phil. 2:9-11) 2. The meal offering a. The pure and perfect humanity of Jesus (John 6:31-35, 48-51, 53-58; 12:24; Matt. 26:26) b. Prepared with oil and frankincense (Matt. 1:20; John 3:34; 1:4; 5:21; 11:25-26; Rom. 8:11) i. Fully mingled with the Holy Spirit ii. With the power of resurrection swallowing up death c. Seasoned with salt (v. 13; John 1:16; 14:9) manifesting and declaring the Father d. No leaven or honey (v.11; Matt. 16:6, 12; Luke 12:1b; Mk. 8:15; 1 Cor. 5:6-8; Gal. 5:9) e. Having passed through all kinds of sufferings 3. The peace offering Christ our peace with God and man (Eph. 2:14-22; 2 Thess. 3:16) 4. The sin offering (Eph. 5:2; John 1:29, 36; 2 Cor. 5:21) a. The I, the old man, has been crucified with Christ No longer I who live, but Christ lives in me (Gal. 2:20; 5:24) b. Setting us free from the law and dominion of sin and death by the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus (Rom. 8:2; 6:9-14; Heb. 2:14-15) - 3 -
5. The trespass offering The forgiveness and cleansing of all our sins by the precious blood of Jesus Christ resulting in sanctification and righteousness (1 John 1:7-9) B. Being the holy priesthood (1 Pet. 2:5) 1. Pursuing holiness (1 Pet. 1:16; Heb. 12:14) 2. Being a people living Christ (Phil. 1:21a), gaining Him (Phil. 3:8) and pursuing Him (Phil. 3:10-15) C.
