CONGREGATION COUNCIL: Congregation Council meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the church. Visitors are welcome. Contact the Council President to have an item placed on the agenda. CHURCH TREASURER: The Church Treasurer is responsible for the proper receipt and accounting of church funds within policies established by the church for adequate financial control. The Church Treasurer is not required to be a member of the Congregation Council. 1. Keep accurate records in appropriate financial journals of all monies received and disbursed. 2. Reconcile monthly bank statements and correct ledgers as needed. 3. Sign checks in accordance with church policies and procedures and verify the supporting data for each check request. 4. Advise the Congregation Council and various committee chairpersons about available funds and budget 5. Make monthly and annual reports to the Congregation Council. 6. Keep Congregation Council, staff and appropriate committees informed of any trends or changes in fiscal matters. 7. Instill and preserve a high financial confidence throughout the congregation. 8. Submit accurate financial records for Congregation Council annual financial audit and review according to church policy. 9. Train a financial secretary selected by the Congregation Council to assist with these duties. COMMITTEES: PROPERTY MINISTRY TEAM: 1. General maintenance, protection and upkeep needs for all grounds and properties. 2. Liaison to person(s) performing weekly custodial indoor duties. 3. 6. Annually review the insurance program and make any recommendations to the Congregation Council. 7. Annual inspection of the heating system and change filters. 8. Make periodic inspections of church properties to determine if any repairs or replacements of buildings and/or equipment are needed. Present to the Congregation Council any recommendations for repair and/or replacements with an approximate cost, and suggestions as to when and how the work should be done. 9. Provide periodic updates of the Property Ministry Team efforts to the Congregation Council. OUTREACH AND SUPPORT MINISTRY TEAM: 1. This ministry team will focus on evangelism (outreach) and care giving to members and nonmembers of the congregation. 2. Study materials available from the ELCA Commission on evangelism. 3. Decide on methods for outreach and care giving in the following areas. a) Inactive members. b) Newcomers to Johnson County. c) Hospitality d) New member classes, reception and involvement. e) Visitors at worship and follow up visitation. f) Shut-in visitation g) Hospital visitation h) Transportation to worship and activities for those unable to drive. 4. Coordinate with the Music and Worship Ministry Team to make worship hospitable and welcoming. 5. Provide periodic updates of the ministry efforts to the Congregation Council. STEWARDSHIP MINISTRY TEAM: 1. Promote the expression of Christian faith in daily living, using our God-given gifts of time, talents and finances. 2. Plan a year-round Stewardship Education Program. 3. Decide on the method and schedule for the annual Stewardship emphasis. 4. Encourage new members with opportunities to serve in the congregation, including using the pledge system and offering boxes. 5. Provide offering envelopes to all members. 6. Coordinate with the congregational treasurer and financial officer, being aware of income and expenses 7. Periodically provide status reports of the Stewardship Ministry Team efforts to the Congregation Council. EDUCATION MINISTRY TEAM: 1. Oversee, plan and promote various Christian Education offerings of the Congregation. a. Sunday school for children. b. Adult classes. c. Confirmation ministry. d. Vacation Bible School e. Children s Christmas program. f. Promote the use of Lutheran-based curriculum whenever possible. 2. Read and study ELCA Christian Education materials. 3. Promote the reading of the Lutheran Magazine and the use of devotional books for the home. 4. Be alert to the needs for supplies and equipment for the various educational offerings. 5. Promote Lutheran Camp opportunities. 6. Propose an annual budget for Parish Education Ministry 7. Youth and children s ministries as a sub-committee. a. Promote children and youth as a vital part of the congregation in the present, as well as in the future. b. To develop ongoing youth and children s ministries in the church. c. Work with other ministry teams to involve children and youth in carrying out of their ministries. d. To promote and support ministry with, to, and by children and youth. 8. Periodically provide a report on the needs and status of Christian Education in the congregation to the Congregation Council. ADDITIONAL MINISTRIES WITHIN THE CHURCH An overview of how the Lord works within our congregation. Please see the last pages for names and telephone numbers to call for information. ACOLYTES: Pastor Alena Lamirato Children of the congregation are assigned to light the candles, help with the offering and communion, and extinguish the candles at the end of worship. Contact Pr. Alena if your child would like to participate. There is on the job training and occasional meetings. ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS: Pastor Alena Lamirato The Adult Sunday school class meets at 10:30 a.m. following Fellowship Time. The class varies on topics, and often video adjuncts are used with discussion following. ADULT CHOIR: John Orwig, Director. Meets every Wednesday at 4:44 p.m. for practice. The choir sings during worship and for special services throughout the year. Time changes are announced in the worship bulletin. New members are always welcome. ALTAR FLOWERS: Cheryl Kelly; Church secretary The large flower calendar is located at the entrance to the sanctuary. The Church secretary is in charge of the flower ministry, and arranges for their delivery on the proper date. The cost is $20 and is billed to the home address of the flower sponsor. The flowers may be taken home after worship in a plastic grocery bag provided in the sacristy, or a personal vase. The brass container and green plastic container are left at the church. If you do not wish to take the flowers home, they can be taken to the Amy Holt Care Center, Agape, The Beehive, JCHC hospital or a place of your choice. ALTAR GUILD: Carrol Dybdahl; Chairperson. Sets up for Holy Communion, changes the paraments, cares for the fair linen, and fills the lamps/candelabras. The Altar Guild meets quarterly. ASSISTING MINISTERS: Pastor Alena Lamirato Assisting ministers assist the Pastor during worship by leading confession, setting the table for communion, distributing the wine for communion, and charging the congregation to Go in peace and serve the Lord. If Pr. Alena is out of town, the Assisting Minister serves as the presiding minister for the Word Service (no communion). BELL CHOIR: John Orwig Ret, Director. The Bells of St. Luke's meet for practice every Wednesday at 5:30-6:30p.m., and on Thursday during Lent. Time changes are announced in the worship bulletin. They play during worship and in the community for special events throughout the year. New members are always welcome. BIBLES AND BREWS: Pastor Alena Lamirato On the fourth Thursday of the month, we gather together at the Clear Creek Brewing Company on Main St. to discuss Bible passages, quotes and questions drawn from a jug. Members may also join virtually through a Face Book group page. See Pr. Alena to be added to the FB group. BOOKCLUB: Pastor Alena Lamirato The St. Luke s Book Club meets quarterly on a Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at a local coffee shop to discuss a specific book lifted up by Pastor Alena or a member of the group that deals with theology, the Bible, and/or christian living. More information can be found in the newsletter. CHILDREN S BELL CHOIR: Bev Kenick, Director The Children s Bell Choir practices before Sunday School from 10:15-10:30am and play periodically during worship. A change of times will be announced in the church bulletin. All children are welcome. Additional practice times may be set up during the week. CHILDREN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL: Cheryl Kelly, Tracy Jons, Miranda Wagner A children's Sunday school program is provided for school-aged children. Meets from 10:30-11:15 a.m. CHURCH BULLETIN: Cheryl Kelly; Church secretary If you have an item or announcement for the church bulletin, please either email it to the church (saintlukeselca@gmail.com) or put it on church secretary's desk no later than 9:00 a.m. Thursday. CONFIRMATION CLASSES: Pastor Alena Lamirato A progressive program of Christian education that prepares seventh and eighth grade youth to become adult members of the congregation. Classes are held on Wednesdays after school, during the school year. Starting dates and times are announced in the Sunday worship bulletin and the monthly newsletter. KITCHEN KOPS: Ginny Hancock; Chairperson Anyone wishing to use tables, chairs, roasters, coffeepots, utensils, etc, needs to call Ginny Hancock at 684-7948 and sign out borrowed items on the sheet located in the kitchen. This committee is also responsible for keeping the kitchen clean and the church well supplied with various paper products and cleaning supplies. LECTORS: Pastor Alena Lamirato Lectors read the lessons aloud during worship for the congregation on Sunday mornings. They also help the Pastor and Assistant Minister distribute the wind during communion. LADIES EVENING BIBLE STUDY: Bessie Dickerson; Chairperson The ladies evening Bible study meets the first Sunday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the home of Bessie Dickerson. LUTHERAN WOMEN'S GROUP: (ELCW): Anne Gilbert, President The regular meeting and afternoon Bible study meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 1:30 p.m.at the church September through May. MOVIE NIGHT: Pastor Alena Lamirato On the third Friday of the month at 7:00 p.m., during September through May, we gather at the Kramer s home to screen and discuss a movie using the Bible as a lens to reflect on how the movie speaks to our Christian lives. NEWSLETTER: Pastor Alena Lamirato Items, pictures and articles for the monthly newsletter are welcome, and can be E-mailed to either Pastor Alena at pastoralena@yahoo.com or the church secretary at saintlukeselca@gmail.com. You may also call at 684-7872. The deadline for each month is the 23rd of the month unless otherwise specified. NURSERY: St. Luke's provides a parental nursery attendant if needed. Speakers in the nursery area ensure the worship service is not missed. We provide diapers, wipes, etc. As well, there is a changing station in the downstairs bathroom adjacent to the nursery. PRAYER CHAIN: Lois Madsen; Chairperson The Prayer Chain is used for immediate prayer needs and concerns. Call Pastor Alena first (684-7872 or 217-2050), and then call either Pat Loetterle (684-5206) or Lois Madsen (684-2917), who will call the next person on the list with your prayer concern. All prayers are kept confidential unless the person requesting the prayer for themselves has asked that it be on the public prayer list. PRAYER SHAWLS: Pastor Alena Lamirato On the third Saturday of the month, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Luke s, we gather to knit and crochet prayer shawls. These shawls are then given to those who are in the hospital or going through a major life event. Prayers for all who have prayer shawls are offered at the meeting as well. PREPARE ENRICH: Pastor Alena Lamirato For those who are getting married, and those who are experiencing marital difficulties, Pr. Alena offers special counseling. Prepare is a requirement for all couples who plan on getting married at St. Luke s, which includes a minimum of six meetings with Pr. Alena. Enrich is for married couples who are having difficulties communicating. Cost is $30 for the online questionnaire/profile. Meetings with Pr. Alena are free. QUILTING: Lois Madsen; Chairperson Quilters meet at the church on the last Wednesday of the month at 9:00 a.m. to make quilts for Lutheran World Relief and graduating seniors. They also sew for other projects, such as back packs for school kits. The ladies sometimes bring a lunch or go out after the meeting. Even if you are not a quilter, you are invited to help tie knots and enjoy the fellowship. USHERS: Sid Parker; Chairperson Ushers greet and welcome people to worship, hand out the Sunday worship bulletin and liturgy folder, take the offering, keep track of the attendance, and guide the congregation to the Holy Communion stations. ADDITIONAL OUTREACH MINISTIRES SUPPORTED BY ST. LUKE S BREAD OF LIFE FOOD PANTRY: Liaison, Sid Parker; Scheduling, Karen Klaahsen Volunteers from St. Luke's congregation staff the Bread of Life Food Pantry on Mondays from noon until to 1:00 p.m. Contact Sid Parker (684-5186) for donations and stocking. Contact Karen Klaahsen (684-5217) to sign up to work on Mondays. BUFFALO MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATION (BMA): Pastor Alena Lamirato, Chairperson Through the BMA, we work with other denominations in Buffalo to share God s good news in our community. The BMA is responsible for the care of transients passing through Buffalo, and hosts annual Good Friday Service, Baccalaureate, Vacation Bible School, and Service of Honor. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF THE EASTERN BIGHORNS - Buffalo: John Orwig Habitat s task is to build houses for those who could not qualify for a conventional mortgage. SENIOR CENTER MEAL DELIVERY: Colleen Payne and Mona Pickering Volunteers from St. Luke s deliver meals from the Buffalo Senior Center on the Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during the month of February. Sign up in the fellowship area. Meet at the Senior Center at 11:15am. Lunch is included. ANNUAL EVENTS: ANNUAL BAZAAR, LUNCH AND COOKIE BAKE SALE: Normally held on the first Saturday in November. The ladies of the church serve a lunch of soup, roll and dessert. In addition to the bazaar items they have handcrafted and donated, there is a raffle as well, from which the money goes to the Lutheran Care Center in Billings. LENTEN SERVICES: A light soup supper and short, meaningful worship services are held each Wednesday during Lent, beginning with Ash Wednesday. On occasion, another church is sometimes invited to share in the Lenten services and the soup preparation. The offering, from the Lenten Services goes to various local needs including the Bread of Life Food Pantry milk fund or the Buffalo Ministerial Association s transient Fund. VALENTINE BRUNCH: Hosted by the ELCW Held on the closest Saturday to Valentine's Day. Times are announced in the Sunday worship bulletin and the newsletter.
