DUBOIS FAMILY Putnam Co., TN Source: Letter from Ivan C. DuBois found in scrapbook of Audra Camilla Anderson Denny: I m sure sorry that you had to go through the broken hip stage of life that so many are enjoying" through no fault of their own. Now the good Lord made us almost perfect and in his own image but I didn t read where he broke his hip. Anyway he didn t live to a ripe old age like some of us hope to do. You see there is a little weakness in our bone structure that maybe we have misused, especially since we straightened up on our two legs (Elmo would say limbs) instead of trotting along on all fours like our friendly animals. So sometimes when we step on the little rolling stone or slip or put some undue strain on this weak spot, that s it and we are laid up awhile. I hope you can visit Mama (Vida) in McKendree Manor sometime and see how wonderful that hotel is and you might want to become a neighbor of hers. Elmo says she loves it too. So you d better just sell that farm or lease it out and buy into McKendree Manor and your worries would be over. Of course if you stay as healthy as your little brother, Grover, you ll never need any help from anyone. That is he looked mighty fine last summer when I saw him in Cookeville. Grace has cooked up a bunch of fried chicken and stuff and we are headed to help feed a bunch of senior citizens. We don t exactly count our selves as senior citizens but our church calls on us every month to help out with the monthly dinner meeting. Then too I have to show some color slides of a trip we took recently around the Four Corners are of New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona and the Indian ruins and cliff dwellings. Hope they enjoy it a little. Our little neighborhood Methodist Church was over 1,400 members and we will have only 60 or so senior citizens for dinner today. Tell everyone I know Hello and do take care of yourself and I do hope you are soon your active self again with no ill effects. Love, Ivan Note: Major Ivan C.
