THE BREAD BASKET Morsels from Bread of Life Lutheran Church DECEMBER 2016 Bread of Life Lutheran Church 7510 36 th Avenue Hudsonville, MI 49426 (616)797-9930 Pastor Paul Krupinski Cell (616)635-0058 Email: bollc@breadoflifelc.org Web: www.breadoflifelc.org Search for us on Facebook www.facebook.com/ Breadoflife Sunday Worship Schedule with Holy Communion One of the hymns in our red hymnal for the Christmas season is entitled Cold December Flies Away (#299). Its words capture the essence of what Christmas brings to us: In the hopeless time of sin shadows deep had fallen. All the world lay under death. Eyes were closed in sleeping. But, when all seemed lost in night, came the sun whose golden light brings unending joy, brings endless joy of our hope, highest hope, of our hope s dawning, Son beloved of heaven. Sometimes the world can seem dark and desolate and we get afraid...but, and this is a big BUT, our gracious and loving God came to us in Christ, understanding our human condition, accepting and loving us as we are, giving us hope and joy in that he will comfort us, care for us and bring us serenity of spirit. We celebrate Christmas because God s love never ceases and never changes...he became one with us and we are his. When we look at the calendar and begin to think of all of the musts that await us in December, it does seem that it flies away... my hope and prayer is that we all have time to be quiet in God s presence, understanding howmuch we are loved and how much God depends on us...take more than a moment this month to reflect on our blessings and the promises of God...use the Advent daily devotional to assist in your times of meditation! You can do one thing...set aside these important dates/activities: We invite you to worship, grow & serve with us! Sunday, December 11 th Birthday Party for Jesus for children and adults. 1:00 p.m. Bring gifts that will then be shared with Family Promise and/ or LOVE, Inc. Cake, ice cream crafts and fun. Sunday, December 18 th Lessons & Carols for worship. Christmas Eve services 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. with lots of our favorite carols, candles and the joy of the night...bring family, friends, neighbors and loved ones to celebrate this glorious night. Sunday, Christmas Day service at 9:30 a.m. Service of the Word Thanks to everyone who attended a Pie, Prayer & Plan meeting and those who baked the scrumptious pies! I have compiled the responses from those meetings and forwarded them to the church council for deliberation and discussion with the goal to bring to the annual meeting in January a vision for the future of BOL. May this Advent and Christmas season be one of great joy for you...my prayer is that God s richest blessings fill your hearts and minds...take care and know how important you are to me and our Lord God. Blessings, Pastor Paul
