FYI: January 10, 2016 Feast of the Baptism of the Lord This weekend the Church celebrates the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. With the conclusion of Evening Prayer on Sunday, the Christmas season officially comes to a close. Hopefully, the meaning and message of the Christmas season won t be put away like Christmas ornaments, but acted upon each and every day of 2016. We read in the First Reading taken from the Prophecy of Isaiah: Comfort, give comfort to my people, says your God. The comfort that all of us need is that we are loved, saved and set free from scourge of sin and death by the redemptive action of Christ. The Second Reading admonishes us to live temperately, justly and devoutly and to be filled with hope! We do this because the Lord is filling us with his grace. The Gospel finds Jesus searching out his cousin, John, who is calling sinners to repent and to enter into the baptism of repentance. Jesus presents Himself for baptism. He does this not because He has anything to repent, but to give us all an example. He who is the Author of life gives dignity to baptism because of His presence. The Church teaches that Baptism is the first of all the Sacraments. It has been called the gateway. Through Baptism the stain of original sin is wiped away and fills the soul with grace. If a person is older, it also removes all personal sin. The Sacrament of Baptism also makes us children of God. Finally, it makes us heirs to the kingdom of heaven. As the ritual for Baptism eloquently states, we can call God Father in the midst of the Church and thereby allows us to call Jesus, Lord and Brother. (Talk about family connections!) The Church has taught from earliest times there are three forms of Baptism. They are Baptism of Water and the Spirit. This is where water is poured on the head of the person to be baptized or the person s body is immersed in water, and the person baptizing says while pouring the water or immersing the person, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. The second kind of Baptism is called the Baptism of Blood. This is where a person witnesses to the Faith by the shedding of his/her blood. The blood takes the place of the water. The third kind of Baptism is called the Baptism of Desire. This is a type of Baptism which basically means that a person through no fault of his/her own could not be Baptized with water. This could apply to say a baby who died before baptism. Or an older person who was preparing for Baptism, but died before they could be baptized. In other words, all things being equal, the intent was there. Finally, I think the most moving part of the Gospel proclamation for this weekend is the last line of the Gospel. You are my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Any time you or I do the will of God. The Father says to us You are my beloved child, in whom I am well pleased! Brothers and Sisters, while we have time, let us do good. ~ Fr. Dan P.S. Sunday afternoon (January 10 th ) following the 4:00 p.m. Mass, we will be taking down the Christmas decorations in Church. Please come and help!!!! Thanks Fr. Dan The Banns of Marriage are being announced for: Carmine Rende & Claire Berger-Perry. January 17th!! Give the gift of life!! Thank you for your generosity. Remember God can not be outdone in generosity. Christmas Collection was $34,841.00 5 The collections for the past weeks: Dec. 20, 2015 - $12,689.00 Dec. 27, 2015 - $8596.00 Jan. 1, 2016 - $16,810.00

The Respect Life Committee is proud to announce that through the efforts of the 40 Days For Life Campaign, since 2007, over 11,600 babies have been saved from abortion! There were 607 cities in 32 countries involved and 675,000 participants in prayer vigils. 127 abortion clinic workers have left that job and 64 abortion mills closed! On Jan. 22 at 11a.m. at the Old West Palm Beach Courthouse we will stand beside Bishop Barbarito and pray the Rosary for an end to abortion. Our next campaign will be Feb. 10 through March 20. More on that later. We need more support from our parish, please contact the DiBattista's at 561-734-6637 or the Gill's at 561-732-2181 for further information. In 2003, the Knights of Columbus began participating in the Global Wheelchair Mission and sponsored 2,000 wheelchairs to be distributed in Afghanistan. Since then, Knights in the U.S. and Canada have sponsored the distribution of some 53,000 wheelchairs in Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, Jordan, Mexico, Morocco, Oman, Panama, the Philippines, Poland, the United States and Vietnam. For every donation of $150 received by the Global Wheelchair Mission, it can deliver a brand new wheelchair which would cost over $500 in a medical supply store. They are shipped in containers of 100 to 280 wheelchairs each direct from the factory to the destination countries at no cost to the recipients. Councils, assemblies, and circles are encouraged to promote this program to their membership, inviting personal consideration, as well as implementing this as an ongoing charitable event. This weekend our Second Collection will be to help support this worthy cause. Please give generously. 40 Days for Life is a community-based campaign that takes a determined, peaceful approach to showing local communities the consequences of abortion in their own neighborhoods, for their own friends and families. It puts into action a desire to cooperate with God in the carrying out of His plan for the end of abortion. It draws attention to the evil of abortion through the use of a three-point program: Prayer and fasting Constant vigil Community outreach The 40-day campaign tracks Biblical history, where God used 40-day periods to transform individuals, communities and the entire world. From Noah in the flood to Moses on the mountain to the disciples after Christ s resurrection, it is clear that God sees the transformative value of His people accepting and meeting a 40-day challenge. Watch next week s bulletin for information on how you can take part!! The Pilgrim Virgin Statue of OUR LADY OF FATIMA Will be presented at the South Florida Fair, January 15 January 31, 2016 While you are enjoying time at the South Florida Fair we invite you to stop and pay homage to Our Lady of Fatima, Building 3, Space 31. A beautiful hand carved statue made in Fatima and blessed by Bishop John Venancio of Fatima will be on display. Volunteers are needed to help staff the booth as an effort to evangelize our Catholic faith and to spread devotion to Our Blessed Mother. Please call Tom and Charlene Sherry: 561-308-7426 or email: pgachar@bellsouth.net 6
