The world was full of darkness with no light at all. In the darkness was the Spirit of God. God made a plan to create the world. It is very hard to imagine an empty, dark space with nothing to see. There were no mountains, lakes, animals, or people. This is the exciting story of how the world came to be and how God made heaven, earth, and everything in it. God wanted everything to be wonderful and perfect for the people He was going to create. The words in the Bible tell us, In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And God s Spirit was hovering over the surface of the waters. God did not want darkness over the world, so He created light. He said, Let there be light, and there was light. God s words made the light happen! When God saw the light, He saw that it was good. God divided the light from the darkness. He called the light Day, and He called the darkness Night. There was evening and there was morning, the first day. This was the very beginning of God s world.
