José Antonio Castañeda The old pastor stepped onto the pulpit and looked out at the throngs of people eagerly awaiting (or maybe not so eagerly) his Easter sermon. The venerable gentleman began by saying, I have three sermons prepared for you this morning--the $100/person sermon lasting five minutes, the $50/person sermon lasting fifteen minutes; and the $20/person sermon lasting an hour. We will now take up the collection to see which one I will deliver! The resurrection was Jesus best and, indeed, the world s best sermon ever delivered, for it explained the entire Good News in one Word Life! Perhaps one could add another word like Eternal or Forever, but this one event says it all. The challenge for you and me today is to allow that Life to energize us to be the persons that image God, that continue the work of Jesus, and that allow the Spirit to radiate joy to all whom we encounter. In other words, we take with us as we leave church today not only the message, but the person of Christ into the world, thereby transforming it into the kingdom of God established by His death and resurrection some twenty centuries ago. Have a wonderful Easter celebration with family and friends today and remember to thank the cook (and God as well), which reminds me of little Ernie who, seated with his family at Grandma s house for Easter dinner, shoved a roll into his mouth the second it was placed on the table. His mother quickly reprimanded him to not start until the grace was said, whereupon he replied, But Mom, we don t have to pray before we eat when we re at Grandma s. She s a good cook! Here s to all of you who will make Easter dinners today, whether for family or the needy or at work thanks for the nurturing! Wedding Announcement SB III Heidi Mikulsky & Corey Brey II Karen Kraus & Eric DeBaker Happy Easter from all of us, In Sympathy We extend our sympathy to the family and friends of Rodney Sathoff. Please remember them in your prayers. Baptisms We welcome those who were baptized recently: SB Hendrix Sterling Redfearn Thank You to the J.S. Paluch Company for helping us out with our bulletins during this time of transition.

Ap r i l 7 & 8, 2 0 1 2 P a g e 3 With Easter, Every Day Becomes New Year s Day By: Kristina M. DeNeve, Evangelization and Welcoming Director Diocese of Green Bay I ve been thinking lately how New Year s Day captures the essence of the Spirit of Easter. Every New Year, we get a fresh start. We feel happy, alive, free. We look back over the past year, both good and bad. Even better, we look towards the upcoming year. Will this year be better than last? What will I do that I did not do last year? What do I want for my life, my family, my work? Even New Year s Resolutions seem to capture the Spirit of Easter. We ask how we can change, how we can be better. We want to live into new possibilities. And, even when we fail at our resolutions, we are okay because we know we can still try again, next week, next month or next year. This is the power of Easter. Jesus Lives and he shares this life with us. Jesus makes today better, helps us create a better tomorrow. We can love more, live more, be healthier. New Year feels like what Easter is all about. New life, Every day. LENTEN COLLECTIONS: THANK YOU to those of you that participated in the reverse collection at St. Philip Church last weekend. PAGE 6 Life and Money with Phil Lenahan www.veritasfinancialministries.com Another in our continuing series April 8 Today s second reading says, If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Think of what is above, not of what is on earth (Col. 3: 1-2). A steward of Providence manages what the Lord has entrusted to him with an eternal perspective. Happy Easter! Divine Mercy Sunday! Divine Mercy Sunday is the Second Sunday of the Easter season (April 15, 2012). It was named by Pope John Paul II at the canonization of Maria Faustina on April 30, 2000 and then officially decreed by the Vatican. Divine Mercy Sunday can be seen as the convergence of all the mysteries and graces of Holy Week and Easter Week. Our Lord revealed to St. Faustina His desire to flood us with His graces on that day I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the Fount of My mercy (the Sacraments of Reconciliation beforehand and Holy Eucharist on that day). Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. This Feast of Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness. Remembering A Loved One St. Bernard As we prepare for Easter, many of us may have someone we would like to remember in a special way. If you would like to donate toward our Easter environment, you may do so by filling out the form below.
