Thy Will Be Done DAILY PRAYERS FOR LENT Justin Rossow
Ash Wednesday Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples. LUKE 11:1 Lord, teach me to pray as you did. Teacher, show me how to read Scripture as you did. Master, shape my life of faith to resemble your trust in the Father s will. Jesus, as I journey through Lent with you, shape me into a disciple who depends on you more and more. Lord, teach me to pray. AMEN. 2
Thursday After Ash Wednesday By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son. HEBREWS 11:17 Heavenly Father, I admit there are times when your will seems confusing to me, times when my experience says there is no God of grace, no God of power, no God at all. When it feels like you are absent, shape my trust in your promises, that I might rely on your Word even when my world is difficult to understand. In times of testing, let your will be done in my life. AMEN. 3
Friday After Ash Wednesday Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting! PSALM 139:23-24 Honesty is hard, Lord. I always seem to give myself the benefit of the doubt, to paint my actions and attitudes in the best possible light, to excuse myself while being critical of others. But today, I want to be open and honest with you. Search my heart and actions, Jesus, and gently lead me to repentance and change. I trust your forgiveness and your will. AMEN. 4
Saturday After Ash Wednesday Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ Jesus, greets you, always struggling on your behalf in his prayers, that you may stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God. COLOSSIANS 4:12 Jesus, I need someone to struggle on my behalf in prayer. I can t do this alone. Please open my eyes to a fellow disciple you have placed in my life, someone I can ask to struggle in prayer for me. And show me the person you would have me pray for this Lenten season. Bless our mutual struggling in prayer, that we may stand fully assured in your will. AMEN. 5
First Sunday of Lent Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. PSALM 51:10 God of creation and new creation, continue your creative act in me today. Give me your Spirit to renew my spirit. Give me your heart to restore my heart. Give me your joy, Jesus, so my life reflects the joy of journeying with you. Even in the midst of struggle, confusion, repentance or pain, still be the source and object of my praise. Cause me to rejoice in your work in me. Let me delight in your will and walk in your ways. AMEN. 6
Monday, First Week of Lent Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. MATTHEW 6:10 Lord God, Heavenly King, Almighty God and Father, let your active reign and rule be present in my life today. In the realm of politics and world history, let your gracious will prevail. Within the bounds of my own home and family, be present in love and power. In the citadel of my will and the sanctuary of my heart, take up residence and reign; let my thinking, acting and feeling be an expression of your kingdom s goal. In Jesus name. AMEN. 7
