Potluck Reunion Ultreya/Harvest April 1 April 22 & 29 See details below Welcome! Welcome, Welcome - to our new Cursillistas from Weekends #151 and #152! What a joy and blessing each of you are to our community. You may remember hearing me say at your respective Clausuras - your Weekend(s) aren't over. The next part happens on April 1st, at Life in Christ Lutheran Church in Peoria, Az. at 6:00 p.m. which is the Potluck Reunion in your honor. Your contribution to the Potluck is - the gift of your presence. The next part of your Weekend(s) is Leader's School which will be held at the same place as the Potluck i.e. Life in Christ Lutheran Church on April 22 nd at 8:30 a.m. and at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran, Fountain Hills on April 29 th at 8:30 a.m. Both of these are important as you journey forward in your 4th days. What's Next? Renewal #4 is quickly approaching. It will be held June 2nd - 4th, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Phoenix, Az. The Rector will be Don Wirth and the Rectora will be Cindy Hurless. May we all lift them up in our prayers as they prepare for the Weekend. Now is the time to submit the applications, lots of them, for the Renewal. For further information contact Oron and Sue Mersing. Where Are We Now? We are in the midst of the Lenten season, it is a time that offers us an opportunity to come to terms with the human condition we may spend the rest of the year running from and it brings our needs for a Savior to the forefront. Lent is an intensely penitential time as we examine our sinful natures and return to the God we have, through our own rebelliousness, hurt time and again. Lent is also an opportunity to contemplate what our Lord really did for us on the Cross. It is a time to open the doors of our hearts a little wider and understand our Lord a little deeper, so that when Good Friday and Easter comes, it is not just another day at church but an opportunity to receive the overflowing of graces God has to offer. May it be so, for all of us. Philippians 2: 8-11 Patsy Lawrence, Secretariat President Insights from a Parish Rep The Challenges of the Lutheran Cursillo Parish Representative Being the Parish Rep in a large congregation is a great picnic. It has challenges of having a Pastor that has not gone through a Weekend yet. He wants to have people to be accountable to each other, by having men pair up with men and women pair up with women so they can be accountable to each other. 1

He does not see that the training is available to get this started with some of the leaders of the Church. The Pastor has said that he will go through sometime in the future. I am hoping it will be on Weekend #153. Another challenge is finding out who has gone through the Cursillo weekend or another Movement in a Church of over 2000 members. I am in the process of comparing the Cursillo list with the church directory. This will let me compare about half of the congregation to the Cursillo list. One of the things we are working on is setting up a meeting for people that have gone through a Cursillo Weekend or other Movements. The challenges is getting it in the bulletin and finding a place to hold the meeting. We have a very small group that we know have gone through a Cursillo weekend because we have sponsored them. Because the field is large and the workers are few it will take awhile to get an active community established. Since God and not me is in charge of growing the Christ Greenfield community, it will grow in His time and the way He has planned. All I can do is be His servant and be available where He can use me. Clayton Windler, Parish Representative at Christ s Greenfield Luther Church The Screwdriver Concept Pre-Cursillo Everyone knows that the purpose of a screwdriver is to drive screws into or out of something. That is what the designer(s) envisioned when designing the screwdriver. The overall shape of the screwdriver end has changed over the years; however, it still continues to maintain its original purpose. The basic screwdriver is known as the flat-blade screwdriver. Its purpose is to drive single-slotted screws into or out of an object. Most people are familiar with this particular screwdriver and its designed purpose. In addition, many people have experienced using the flat-blade screwdriver for other applications. Some of the more notable uses include: 1. Prying open paint cans 2. Poling holes through material 3. Chiseling 4. Taking off bicycle tires 5. Scraping marks on concrete or other hard surfaces The Cursillo Movement is quite a bit like the screwdriver. It was designed for a specific purpose. Its surface has been reshaped over the years; however, its original purpose continues to remain the same. Like the screwdriver, the Cursillo Movement has been used for many purposes in addition to its designed purpose. What happens to the screwdriver after repeated uses in some of these applications? It begins to wear down, maybe even bend. When the time comes to use the screwdriver for its intended purpose it slips, it rounds off the head of the screw, and it is unable to perform its intended task. So too, 2

with the Cursillo Movement. If used for purpose other than what it was intended, it will eventually fail in its intended purpose. The Cursillo Movement s Leader s Manual These words were written over thirty-five years ago and they still ring true today. As we move forward let us focus our efforts solely on what the Spirit has directed this Movement to be. Dale Anderson, Secretariat Pre-Cursillo Chair Three Day Welcome Cursillistas from 151 and 152! Please know you are loved and we are overjoyed to have you as part of the community! My hope is you are able to attend one of the upcoming to continue your growth as a Cursillista. As you continue your fourth day walk, know you are still held in prayer and I pray Colossians 3:17 for us all! If you are curious as to what Three-Day is or does here it is in a nutshell. Three-Day provides support to the team prior to, during, and after the weekend. The Three-Day chair is the liaison between Cursillo and the hosting facility. I m in communication with the Rector/a and Head Cook of the teams to make sure they have all materials (crosses, grouping cards, red Pilgrim Guides, etc.) necessary for the Weekend. It is also my joy to assist the community team for each weekend! A huge thank you to Clyde Anderson and his amazing community team for 151. You all did an amazing job of setting up the sleeping quarters, rollo room, and dining hall! Thank you to Denny Hanson and Denny Tam and their equally amazing community team for 152. Your assistance in putting away all things Cursillo and resetting the campus for the school was greatly appreciated. The community teams with their smiling faces and positive attitudes made the time enjoyable! I know teams 151 and 152 appreciate your service to Cursillo, our Lord, and their teams. You are appreciated immensely! Serving Christ alongside you, Traci Laasch, Secretariat Three Day Chair There will be two s held in April. It s not just for the new Cursillistas.
