(Read Page 4-5) Rafting At Krueng Inong Firman Hadi Aceh Jaya nyanyianpena_detak@yahoo.com The joy of independence apparently has not stopped by three villages in the hinterlands of Lamno, Aceh Jaya. Villages Pante Ceureumen, Sabet and Maree are isolated by Krueng Inong. Residents there have lost their patience. The reason is that this country has been independent for 61 years. However... The suffering of the residents in these three villages is very deep. To reach the center of the sub-district, Lamno, they have to travel by rafts for twice. This is the only method of modern transportation available there. These extremely simple rafts are made of bamboo. Without car Daily, it is always used by the people. Do not expect a sedan to be able to pass through. Only two-wheelers can pass there. And then it is not for free. Each twowheeler is charge one thousand Rupiah levies. People too are charged Rp.1,000.- per person. It has already been decades, and the people in these three villages continue to use rafts. These three backward villages are approximately eight kilometers from Lamno. A thousand or more people live there. The majority of them are farmers.

Hence these rafts are the connecting veins of lives of the people in the three villages of Lamno hinterlands. Because only with these rafts can the people bring their nature s produce for sale at Lamno Market. Uroe peukan These villages produces agriculture produce among others coffee, peanuts, rattan, durians. At times access to the market is delayed during the Uroe Peukan. From early morning the residents already queue up. Sometimes all passengers can reach the opposite side by eleven in the day. Practically causing the nature produce of the residents to arrive late at the market. This is even worse during the rainy season. The river current becomes very strong. Automatically the rafts cannot be used. If this occurs, residents could be isolated for up to four weeks. No connection. One can imagine the fate of the residents when they are isolated. Various needs like kitchen necessities such as kerosene, become scarce. Residents have long asked for fulfillment of promises, said Heri, a social worker university student. Awaiting promises Endeavors to fulfill the dream of building a bridge already begun before the conflict blew up. However until now this remains unrealized and the residents no longer have faith in the government. There are many who promised, especially during the general election season. But the results are zero, said Salami, head of Youths of Pante Ceureumen. Promises of officials come during general election time. They issue rhetoric that they will build a bridge. Once again, those are only promises. The people are tired of listening, said another resident. What is further cause for regret is that these three villages are also included in the black category according to the military during the previous conflict. Heri who is a social worker there stated that it has already been more than three years since this area has received any kind of attention due to the conflict. Cartoon Caption Cek Banun Corruption Three-Wheeler Runs Over Residents Muhammad Azami Banda Aceh muhammad2005@yahoo.com Ceureumen 28 Page 2 Cases on aid for becaks (three-wheeled passenger tricycles) not only occurred in Banda Aceh but also in Teuku Umar, Meulaboh, West Aceh. A similar crisis occurred in these areas. Who is the brain of this all. The Association of Three-Wheelers? Because there are protests from the communities. Becak recipients are in protest. They feel that they have been treated unfairly. Accusation of being the cause, is naturally the Association of Three Wheelers in Aceh (PERIBA). Because this is the institution that specifically supports the becak drivers. The story goes like this. Becak aid from the Coordinating Minister for Public Welfare is provided for citizens with professions as becak drivers in Meulaboh. The total is 40 (forty) units, although the total actually distributed according to SuAK (Solidarity for Anti-Corruption) was only 35 units. Paying Subscriptions Then after receiving the becaks, the recipients must pay subscriptions of Rp.15,000 per day. The obligatory subscriptions are indeed regulated in a written agreement. In the letter of agreement signed by Cut Fitri Marfiza with the becak recipient, it is mentioned that the tenor for payment of the becak is 3 years.

Apparently there is a different aroma sending out bad smells. In the beginning it was okay for the becak drivers. However, in time they felt they were being treated unfairly. They felt that such aid was not to empower the tsunami victims, but gave the impression that it was personally owned by the distributing institution. Findings of West Aceh Suak indicated that these Honda Win motor becaks were being imposed with various charges. It is said that administration fees cost Rp.300,000.- per becak unit. There are 39 becak units therefore the administration fees collected totaled Rp.11,700,000.- from this charge alone. Daily deposits of Rp.15,000.- per day for three years. Unbearable Unable to bear the treatment of this distributor institution, the people then reported the case to SuAK. SuAK then offered an option as a solution to the problem occurring between the recipients of aid and the aid distributor of the Coordinating Ministry of Public Welfare. All members of Pertiba also objected to the lease rent being charged that they considered as inhuman. If such rules are from the Coordinating Ministry of Public Welfare as the party providing aid, then we do not mind; whereas in other areas such lease rent is also being charged but not at such a high amount and the tenor is not as long as 3 years. And thereafter the becaks shall become legal property of the recipients, but what is occurring here is that it still is not sure whether after 3 years of paying lease rent, the becaks shall become ours, said a resident. As capital Head of PERTIBA West Aceh Branch Cut Fitri Marphiza verified conducting collections from the becak drivers. The clarification given to SuAK at the West Aceh PERTIBA office acknowledged that becaks from the Coordinating Ministry of Public Welfare are not given, but leased for three years. The purpose of such lease is to add to the still lacking armada of becaks while establishing this as capital for the cooperative, she said. It is not a case There are those who egged Cut Fitri on. She denied any indications of corruption of funds in this case as reported by SuAK. Actually this is not a case, it has been made into a case, she said to Ceureumen. The daily lease rent of Rp.15,000.- and the administration fee of Rp.300,00.- are legitimately in accordance with the letter of agreement. It is impossible to only consider one man s living. We want to empower all of them, she said. She said that this issue has blown up because there are certain people provoking this. This has occurred because there are others provoking this, she explained. She also stated that the Coordinating Ministry for Public Welfare agreed to distribute such becaks due to the hard work of the institution under her leadership. Without solution Actually endeavors towards a solution were carried out by holding meetings. However, disappointments could not be held back, the becak drivers still feel that there are regulations burdening them. And before any solution is produced which is fair for all concerned, these becaks are under the custody of Suak West Aceh. Temporarily these are under our custody in accordance with the desires of the becak drivers. We shall further strive to find a solution that is more just, stated Teuku Neta Firdaus, Coordinator of BP Suak West Aceh. Editor And the Purifier Stopped Dripping Asri Zaidir Banda Aceh biduan_bisu@yahoo.com Ceureumen 28 Page 3 It has been a year since Habibah (35) took clean water from the Water Purifier Installation parked in the premises of the PDAM, Lambaro, Aceh Besar. Whereas previously, every afternoon she would always go there with her husband to take water gushing out of the purifying machine. It is no longer there, so I have stopped going there, said Habibah. The disappearance of such machine confused Habibah as well as the other residents who normally queue to fetch water. Because there is no news on the disappearance of the equipment given by General Electric, USA mentioned. All are confused Residents have only heard news that the equipment has been shipped to Yogyakarta to help the victims of the earthquake there. There are those who say that it has been shipped to Yogyakarta, said Habibah. Not only are the residents in confusion. Former Director of Regional Potable Water Utilities Company Banda Aceh, Syamsul Bahri was also surprised upon finding gout that the water purifier is no longer there. Whereas when he received the machine, the machine was intended to help the tsunami victims in Aceh. That equipment was provided for tsunami victims in Aceh, said Syamsul. Syamsul also remembered when General Electric came to him to contribute the machine in February last year. General Electric provided such water purifier to help Aceh during the emergency response phase. At that time clean water was difficult to get, hence they selected to assist by providing a water purifier, he added.

Peculiar This aid certainly made Syamsul happy. Especially when considering that due to the tsunami, almost 50 percent of the Water Utilities pipelining was destroyed. As a result the people lacked supply of clean water where they lived. This was of course extremely disturbing. This aid was to relieve the people s burden the lack of supply of water during the emergency response phase, said Syamsul. Now Syamsul hears that such equipment is no longer there. He is surprised. According to him, currently Aceh still urgently needs such equipment. Every day, tens of mobile tankers go around the barracks to deliver water from this purifier machine. Until now Aceh still needs it, he confirmed. Syamsul is upset. Actually he intended to submit a program for installation of such water purifier. The PDAM and donors shall construct a mineral water factory processed from Krueng Aceh. The water would be purified and then marketed. The results of sales would be for the regions. Lobbying Useless To create his dream, Syamsul has lobbied with the investor party PT Metito, a company from Jakarta. From the results of such lobbying, Syamsul stated that they already had a deal concerning the use of such water purifier installation. The investor was willing to help with the condition that if such equipment was damaged then the spare parts would be purchased from such Metito company. With such dream still in the making, on 12 April 2005 Syamsul was replaced by A. Ritonga. In the end his intentions fell through. Especially since all of this was still verbal, without anything written onto a contract agreement. Since there was no MoU yet, what more can I say, he explained. Ritonga did not deny what was stated by Syamsul. However according to him, this was a decision. There is no one to blame. Because there was no agreement made between the PDAM and the investor. Loan Where did the water purifier go? Ritonga said he knows about this. He also knows that such equipment was carried of on a truck. However, he does not know where the equipment was shipped off to. Because the equipment was not given to PDAM, it was only for borrowing. Therefore it cannot be blamed if the investor withdraws and removes according to the investor s wishes. The equipment was lent to us. Therefore if it is taken back, well, we have to accept this. In spite of this, the PDAM shall constantly endeavor to supply water for the people specifically those in refugee barracks. We shall constantly try to fulfill, and hopefully there will be no problems, he said firmly. Photo Caption: A woman washing clothes at a clean water installation in Siron Village, Lambaro. The Water Flowed To Yogya? Muhammad Azami Banda Aceh muhammad2005@yahoo.com Former Director of PDAM SYamsul Bahri is continuously perplexed. Especially when reminded that this water processing installation is worth more than Rp.30 billion. He still remembers when the equipment landed in Aceh using an Antonov cargo airplane. This mineral water installation was used to produce ready to drink water for the refugees. This equipment was able to produce 40 liters of water per second, he said some time ago concerning the capacity of the water purifier. He said that based on results of research conducted by an institution from Jakarta, the quality of water produced by such installation was very satisfactory. It is said that the results were even better compared to mineral water produced anywhere in this republic.

For example when compared to mineral water produced domestically. Therefore the quality was far better than mineral water produced anywhere in this country, explained Syamsul Bahri. High Costs He admitted that the operational expenses of this water processing installation were relatively high, namely reaching Rp.8,000 per cubic. Due to the high operational costs, during water production for refugee needs during the emergency response phase, the PDAM obtained injections of funds from a number of institutions. Hence the reason why there was once endeavors towards a solution for this equipment to produce commercially. Post emergency response phase, the PDAM Tirta Daryo once endeavored to conduct a cooperation with PT Metito. President Director of PT Metito, Nabile Warich originating from Algiers specifically visited Aceh. They even signed a Mou contract to operate such mineral water installation for commercial needs. The profit, according to Syamsul, would be for the people of Aceh. Hence the reason why he regrets that such equipment was shipped to Yogyakarta. Ceureumen 28 Page 4 I agree, because the word GAM could cause a trauma among families of GAM victims, it would be best if GAM become a political party under a different name. I totally approve of GAM being dissolved. Because all this time during the peace period, I observe that GAM with its KPA is establishing a government within the government. As far as I know, the essence of the MoU is the dissolving of GAM and the return to the United State of the Republic of Indonesia. What Steps Do We Take During A Disaster? Mohammad Avicena Banda Aceh bromartani@yahoo.com Haruo Hayashi a professor in the Research Center for System for Overcoming Disasters of the University of Kyoto, Japan stated that early warning technology is very important, although that is not everything. Any kind of early warning cannot save lives, he said. However, Hayashi stated that such was only an order to act. People should know what to prioritize. Such was conveyed by him as published in a newspaper in the capital not long ago. In the context of updating, we have not seen and order to act from the government. Then what if hopefully not the tragedy of 26 December 2004 recurs. What should we do? What steps should be first taken to move? We hope the report hereunder can help us.

Learn from Our Older Relative! Mohammad Avicena Banda Aceh bromartani@yahoo.com It has been 20 months since the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Aceh. The government appears to ignore this. Mainly in facing disasters that could come unexpectedly at any time. Isn t Aceh and Indonesia in general prone to disasters? Geographically, our region is clearly vulnerable to disasters, not much different from Our Elder Relative Japan. They are long time customers of earthquakes and tsunami. Since they have been frequently hit by earthquakes, samurai steps were then issued. The Fire Department of Tokyo issued ten steps to take when earthquakes occur. Maybe these could be useful for us. 1. Protect yourself when you feel an earthquake. You could go under a table with head down and hands over the head. Run outside only when the quakes have lessened or gone. 2. Put out the over or other fire sources when the quakes have lessened or when fire catches on to other places. 3. Stay away from fixtures or glass structures which may fall. 4. Get out of the space when the earthquake begins to diminish or is gone. 5. Turn off electrical appliances, water flow or gas before evacuation. 6. Do not panic. Pay attention to roof tiles, glass, billboards or high fixtures that could probably fall on your head. 7. Stay away from masonry or walls. 8. After ensuring the whole family is safe, check the neighbors. 9. Work with neighbors to look for victims in the ruins. Provide first aid. 10. Search for information from the radio, television or official persons. Do not listen to issues from unclear sources such as through Short Message Services. Ceureumen 28 Page 5 PERTAMA (early warning system) for disasters Nani Afrida Banda Aceh Nani_afrida@yahoo.com The Red Cross Indonesia (PMI) in cooperation with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) have their own early warning system, and this directly involves the community. It is called PERTAMA, which is to minimize the risks of disaster and is supported by the people, said Ardi Sofinar, PMI Communication Department to Ceureumen. In PERTAMA, the people will be given information on disasters and the precautions needed to minimize the risks. PMI s volunteers all over Aceh conduct training, and thereafter, those chosen will become members of the Disaster Proficient, Village Level (SIBAD). We realize that disasters will not only attack cities but also villages, so the people here will not become the objects of the disasters, but they will play the leading role, said Ardi seriously. Until now, the Red Cross has conducted training in several location. Socializing to the people of how important it is to handle disasters by showing them animated films. The films are animated in order for them to digest training easily, said Ardi. Supporting Equipment Besides socializing and training, the Red Cross also has other supporting equipment to reduce the risks of disasters. One of them is the radio communication handy talkie

VHF and HF types. It is expected that these devices will minimize the amount of victims since they will be informed beforehand. This radio communication will be transmitted directly to the Red Cross Indonesia working together with the National Coordinating Committee (Bakornas), said Ardi. There will be 22 points of communication (base stations) and 10 repeaters all over Aceh. Moreover, there will be 10 vehicles equipped with radio communications VHF and FH types. For these radios, PMI has conducted training for 80 staff and volunteers to become radio operators. We cannot control when disasters strike, what we can do is to minimize the victims, said Ardi seriously. Photo caption: (siren) A siren for tsunami warnings, now hanging in a tower owned by a cellular phone company in Punge Jurong area, Ulheu Lhue, Banda Aceh. Photo Caption: A Japanese volunteer teaching how to act during a disaster. The education on disaster knowledge in advance is a way of learning how to avoid the unwanted calamity. Mangrove (Bak Bangka) not to be forgotten Muhammad Azami Banda Aceh Muhammad2005@yahoo.com Mangroves, or in Acehnese it is named Bak Bangka, actually are decorative plants along Aceh s coastal area. Physically, mangroves have the ability to stop abrasion caused by wind, intrusions or seawater into the land. Mangroves can absorb salt in the water and extract it through their leaves. Biologically, mangroves are home for fish, oysters, shrimps, and crabs. Damaged mangroves will make these sea animals homeless. How much damage has the tsunami caused? The destruction caused to the mangroves occurred way before the tsunami. The experiment conducted by Wetlands International Indonesia Program (WIIP) has shown that until 1990, less than half of the existing mangroves in Aceh remain, only around 20,000 hectares. Meanwhile, previously the area covered 54,000 hectares. The data from the BRR shows that the potential expanse of land for mangroves in Aceh is around 168,000 hectares. These are mostly destroyed, whether by the tsunami or other causes such as illegal logging and land function conversions. The BRR predicts that the potential rehabilitation of mangroves is only 105,000 hectares. How many percent has been rehabilitated? From Wetlands Aceh s rough calculation, the current ability to rehabilitate is only around 20 30 thousand hectares. This indicates less than 30 percent. Therefore, to recover the other 70 thousand hectares, the people should restore their own coastal surroundings. What is the strength of the mangroves that can minimize destruction caused by a tsunami? It depends on the height of the waves. For areas caught by a tsunami with powerful strength (waves height of 10 20 meters) such as in Banda Aceh, Aceh Besar, and the West Coast, the people themselves witnessed that the mangroves could not hold back the tsunami s waves. If the height of the tsunami s waves is below 5 meters, such as in North of Aceh and South of Aceh, the mangroves and the coastal forest have shown effectiveness in

reducing the impact of the tsunami. Experts predict that dense mangroves with 150 meters of thickness are able to reduce the impact of tsunami up to 50 percent. How near and how wide should mangroves be planted? The length to plant mangroves depends on the designated purpose and the types of mangroves that are to be planted. Currently most of the mangroves planted are of Rhizophora Bangka) type. Wetlands recommended planting to be around 1 x 1 to 2 x 1 meters for the coastal areas or along the rivers. However, for aquaculture ponds it would be better to plant them by 2 x 2 meters or more. Meanwhile, the mangroves thickness in each area differs. The Ministry of Forestry has recommended that for Aceh the thickness should be around 200 meters in observation of the suitability of location. Question & Answer Question: In the MoU it is affirmed that the former Aceh National Army (TNA) will be given an opportunity to join the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). It is stated that the Former Free Aceh Movement (GAM) force will have the right to join the police and organic soldiers in Aceh without discrimination and in accordance with the national standards. My question is, are there former TNA that have been given the chance to join the TNI? Tony Hermansyah Medan, North of Sumatera Answer: According to the Military Regional Commander of Iskandar Muda, TNI Major General Supiadin AS, until last week there are no former TNA that have joined the army, he said. Actually, TNI is widely open for former TNA and all Aceh people to join and become TNI members. However he said that there would not be any special treatment for former TNA to join TNI. Anyone interested should act in accordance with the established national standards. Question: In the previous edition, I noticed that Ceureumen has changed its format. Ceureumen 28 -- Page 7 Boom And then Safrizal was bound in stocks Desi Saifan Peusangan Bireuen Desi_saifan@yahoo.com One old wardrobe was stashed unbalanced in a corner of the house. Two beds with mats just made the room seem smaller. The living room was also small. Do not even ask about the condition of the residents living there. Dirt poor. That same poverty was what also caused Safrizal (23) to be bound in stocks; a resident of Lueng Daneun Village, Peusangan Siblah Krueng Sub District, Bireuen. His life is a prison. Upon the bed laid with a dirty mat with his right foot bound. It is indeed a depressing sight. Despite the pain, there is no other option for his parents. He suffers from mental illness, said the father, Nurdin (53), when visited by Ceureumen not long ago. Bounded in stocks It is this mental illness that has caused Safrizal to be locked inside for almost a year. Upon the bed, the man, who was a student in the third grade of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri, lay without any spirit.

When he is free, Safrizal is rather light handed. He is not afraid to throw stones at anyone. Especially those who do not fulfill his demands. This situation was what urged Nurdin and his wife Hamidah (50) to choose to have him bound in stocks. Nevertheless, we love him. However, we cannot do anything with our difficult economic condition, disclosed Nurdin, a poor farmer with only one plot of field. For Nurdin, watching Safrizal is like losing his own blood. It is a very sad situation. In the family, he was an obedient son. Helping his parents in the field was Safrizal s dedication towards his parents, who have educated him. Booming sound However, who would have thought, that around 1999, whilst helping his parents in the field, Safrizal was greatly shocked upon hearing a loud booming sound. Boom. The sound reverberated, as if the earth he stood on was shaking violently. Safrizal was shocked, he almost passed out. Since then, his condition changed, said the father. He became quieter and cut himself off from the community. However, he was still obedient and helped his parents work in the field. Nevertheless, his movements and attitude were not dangerous. Based on such, one day in 2002, he allowed his firstborn to take part in an action in Jeunib. His friends from the village were also taking part. Abnormal After he came back from the action, his psychical attitude dramatically changed. His face was bruised, with wounds all over his body. Nurdin was certain that his son was beaten up. What hurt even more, Safrizal s condition of mind worsened. In the house with the sago palm roof, Safrizal frequently screamed without meaning or cause. Once in a while, he would hide under a table or chair. It was like he was like avoiding something he was afraid of. What should I do, father? They will come and beat me up again, Safrizal would say, as quoted by Nurdin. The sentence frequently came out from Safrizal. This poor family could only accept the situation. Their son became abnormal because of the conflict. No Money Due to limited funds, Nurdin only brought Safrizal to a psychiatrist in Lhokseumawe three times. He admitted that he has no money to cure his son. We have hardly enough for daily meals. However, the sad expression was clearly seen from Safrizal s face. In a glance, a desire to be cured was seen. A similar thing is felt by his parents. He expects a donor, whose heart is touched, to help lighten Safrizal s burden to be cured. This is because the conflict has stopped. It is against the laws of the Moslem for chaos and war to reside in this land since Aceh is in peace. However, peace is still expensive for Safrizal. RALAS (Reconstruction of Aceh Land Administration). This program is conducted by the National Land Institution. One of its purposes is to reconstruct land administration in accordance with the pre tsunami condition. If the previous documents are missing, then the agreement for the borders of land shall be conducted through a village consensus with village residents, geuchik, and village informal community profiles, supported by the facilitator in the location of such village. If there are agreements of ownership and borders exists and are marked with border marks by the community, then thereafter the National Land Agency (BPN) shall conduct measurements and mapping towards the land and implement verification of jurisdiction data for issuance of land certificates.

The abovementioned phrase from a song written by Arifin Efendi, sung together, became a foreword to a tragedy drama about domestic abuse, with a title, Do Not Take Away My World by Kosong Theatre in SMA Negeri 3, Banda Aceh, on Saturday (26/8). Violence The topic of violence brought by Kosong Theatre, such as the cruelty of a father (Sarbunis) towards his own family. Only because the cigarettes bought by Ansari (Satria) arrived late, Ansari died in the hands of his father, and the mother who was trying to help her son also died because of the cruelty of her own husband. That was some part of a story about violence offered by the Kosong Theatre some time ago to schools. Based on the previous dialogue, the viewers were expected to be active and seek for solutions, thus such violence can be overcome. Solutions for Problems Theater forum has been developing in Brazil, Latin America, since 1960, and was pioneered by a theatre artist, Augusto Boal. In the mentioned forum, the audience or participants are directly involved with the ongoing theatrical dialogue. The audiences, who in the beginning are passive, are expected to become active participants. The director, T. Yanuarsyah (41) said, We expect a dialogue to appear, concerning an issue or topic in this forum. Participants are provided with freedom to give ideas, and simultaneously find ways to solve a problem that occurs in their community and neighborhood. Cry a Tear The 15 minutes show displayed a high quality theatrical nuance, even though it was without lighting and stage. The composition of movements, blockings, thorough music, and very simple artistry one tree as the central point was able to touch the audience, causing a number of students to cry and get carried away in the conveyed dialogue. The moving forum with the name Theatre Forum 2006 has the objective to touch students and the community to be more active in responding to the conflicts frequently taking place in the middle of the neighborhood and family. This theatre forum was brought by the cooperation between the World Bank, ACI (Aceh Culture Institute), and Kosong Theatre. This event was the outcome of a workshop planned by The Necessary Stage, Singapore, at the end of 2005 in Taman Budaya Aceh, Banda Aceh, with a number of approximately 30 participants from throughout Aceh. Whereas the theatre that was elected from the workshop last year, for theater forum 2006 activities are Kosong Theatre, Kuala Theatre, Kosma Theatre, Putih Theatre, and Raja Linge Theatre. The last two mentioned are domiciled and conduct activities in Takengon and Bener Meriah, while the others are in Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar. INFORMATION Raja Linge shall perform in Takengon on 3 September 2006, and Putih Theatre on 4 September 2006, in SMU Bandar Baru, Bener Meriah. 5 September 2006 in SMU Negeri 1, Babesen, Aceh Tengah District. 6 September in State Senior High School 1, Pegasing, Aceh Tengah District. On 7 September it is scheduled in University of Gajah Putih, Takengon. Expecting Support from the Marginal Community Nani Afrida Banda Aceh Nani_afrida@yahoo.com Idawani is considered as a brave person. She is the Srikandi among the men. This is because out of 10 packages of candidates for Head of Government, she is the only woman. The former Kadis for Health took the position of candidate for deputy of Head of Government of Aceh from an independent channel. Her partner is Ibrahim Hasyim. What are her tips in the fight in the Pilkada, read what she said to Ceureumen.

What encouraged you to step forward as candidate for Deputy to Head of Government of Aceh? The initiative did not actually come from me. At the time, Mr. Ibrahim Hasyim said that he would like to take a woman as his partner. Then the other women friends appointed me. To be honest, it never crossed my mind to take part in the Aceh Pilkada. However, because I observed that they, whether my emotional friends, who work in the Health Working Unit, and also people that I know, are supporting me, I then decided to take part. I considered their support as a message. Where are your mass bases come from? Well, looking for mass is indeed important. Especially when stepping forward as an independent candidate needs 120 thousands votes, or approximately 3 percent of the Aceh community. Mr. Ibrahim comes from East Aceh, the mass support from East Aceh may be stronger since he is well known in East Aceh. I myself hope to acquire mass from emotional channels, which are health working units and Pidie, since I come from Pidie. Will you approach women to win? This is indeed a trend, using gender, since it is more popular. I also do not know how many women will take part in pilkada this year. However, I prefer to say that I like it more if I were supported by the marginal community, including women. What is your comment when looking at the condition of Aceh, which until now has been claimed as the area vulnerable to corruption? Aceh is inseparable from Indonesia, which is centralistic. This corruption issue is not only in Aceh, but also in other provinces. It will take a long time to overcome corruption, especially joint corruption such as in Indonesia. You are former head of RSU Zainoel Abidin (RSUZA), during that period many people said that the condition of RSUZA was at the worst, with corruption, at the time. What is your response? I have an obsession to conduct improvement. This is because it is impossible to stay quiet. Certainly, there are pros and cons in every change. I once increased the tariff for VIPs, the reason was so that the rich people are not subsidized, and their subsidies are transferred to the poor people. However, many people protested. What was surprising was that the people protesting did not even stay there. I believe that every decision will not make everybody happy. What is your dream, if you were elected? In accordance with the vision, I would like Aceh to be in peace, have welfare, and dignity. I also expect free basic health services for the people, including free pregnancy examinations since Indonesia is the country with quite high level of mortality for pregnant mothers. Name : Cut Idawani, Msc Date of birth : Meureudu, 23 March 1949 Education : Medical doctor and Master of Medical Service in Australia Job : PNS retired Origin : Mereudu Pidie Vision and Mission : Aceh in peace, have welfare, and dignity. Loyal readers of Ceureumen, starting edition 27 we have added a new column titled Candidate. This column has no double tendencies.
