FROM THE DEACON S DESK Q. What is the difference between the Roman (Latin) Liturgy and the Maronite Liturgy (reprinted from 2016) A. The Maronite Liturgy (also known as the Divine Liturgy) and the Roman (Latin) Liturgy (known as the Mass) are both centered around the Eucharist. Much of the difference among the various Catholic Churches that make up the Universal Catholic Church under the Holy Father, are based on traditions, prayers said, sequence of prayers, and music sang. The following table provides an overview of the parts and flow between the Maronite and Latin Litugy. There would be similar but different tables of comparisons between each of the other Eastern Churches and also the other Eastern Churches and the Roman (Latin) Liturgy. Maronite Liturgy Divine Liturgy Opening Song Prayers at the foot of the altar Opening Prayers Gloria Hoosoyo (incense) (Prayer of forgiveness) Hymn Trisagion (Maronite Praise to Trinity) Psalm of the Reading First Reading * Alleluia Gospel Homily Creed Transfer of Gifts Roman (Latin) Liturgy Mass Opening Song Opening Prayers Gloria Penitential rite First Reading Responsorial Psalm Second Reading Alleluia Gospel Homily Creed Intercessions Sign of Peace Preparation of Gifts ** Holy Institution Narrative Invocation of Holy Spirit Interessions ( Lord, have mercy ) Breaking of Bread Lord s Prayer Penitential Rite Invitation to Communion Communion (on tongue) Blessing with the Holy Mysteries Thanksgiving Blessing & Dismissal Closing Song Holy Consecration Invocation of Holy Spirit Lord s Prayer Sign of Peace Lamb of God Communion Thanksgiving Blessing & Dismissal Closing Song God Bless You, Deacon Jack Sat 1/7 5 p.m. Sun1/8 Sun 1/8 11 a.m. Mon 1/9 Tues 1/10 Wed 1/11 Thur 1/12 Fri 1/13 5 p.m. Sat 1/14 5 p.m. Sun1/15 Sun 1/15 11 a.m. Mass Intentions FIRST SUNDAY OF THE EPIPHANY + All St Jude Parishioners SI & Good Health by Fr. First Sunday after Epiphany 2Corinthians 10:1-11 Accusation of Weakness Brothers and Sisters: I myself, Paul, appeal to you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ I who am humble when face to face with you, but bold toward you when I am away! I ask that when I am present I need not show boldness by daring to oppose those who think we are acting according to human standards. Indeed, we live as human beings, but we do not wage war according to human standards; for the weapons of our warfare are not merely human, but they have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every proud obstacle raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ. We are ready to punish every disobedience when your obedience is complete. Look at what is before your eyes. If you are confident that you belong to Christ, remind yourself of this, that just as you belong to Christ, so also do we. Now, even if I boast a little too much of our authority, which the Lord gave for building you up and not for tearing you down, I will not be ashamed of it. I do not want to seem as though I am trying to frighten you with my letters. For they say, His letters are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible. Let such people understand that what we say by letter when absent, we will also do when present. Praise be to God always! John 1:29-34 John s Testimony to Jesus The Apostles said: The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him and declared, Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This is he of whom I said, After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me because he was before me. I myself did not know him; but I came baptizing with water for this reason, that he might be revealed to Israel. And John testified, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water said to me, He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. And I myself have seen and have testified that this is the Son of God. This is the truth. Peace be with you. NEXT WEEK S READINGS - 2 Cor 4:5-15 & John 1:35-42 DAILY READINGS Monday 1/9: 2 Cor 10:12-18 & Mk 1:1-8 Tuesday 1/10: 2 Cor 11:1-6 & Jn 1:19-28 Wednesday, 1/11: 2 Cor 11:7-25 & Jn 3:22-30 Thursday, 1/12: 2 Cor 11:18, 22-30 Friday, 1/13: 2 Cor 12:1-10 & Mt 14:1-12 Saturday, 1/14: 3 Cor: 12:11-16 & Jn 10:40-42 ST. "Truly I tell you that two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or those gather in my name, there am I with them." Matthew 18:19-20 God Answers Prayers POPE FRANCIS JANUARY INTENTION Evangelization: Christian Unity. That all Christians may be faithful to the Lord s teaching by striving with prayer and fraternal charity to restore ecclesial communion and by collaborating to meet the challenges facing humanity. He who sings... prays twice! You are invited to join our St. Jude Choir! Singers needed at all Weekend Masses! Lectors & Ushers Needed Please call the Parish Office if you would like to be part of this ministry. Training is offered for lectors. 407-363-7405 Please visit our Gift Shop We have many religious articles including statues, rosaries, jewelry, etc. in our gift cabinets. See Fr. Bassam or any of the ushers to help you. If you need a specific gift and it is not available, please let Fr. Bassam know so we can get it for you if possible. Thank you for your support.

Pope Francis on the Baptism of the Lord Jesus had no need to be baptized, but the first theologians say that in His Baptism, with His body and His divinity he blessed all the waters, so that the waters would have the power to give Baptism. And then, before ascending to Heaven, Jesus told us to go out to the whole world to baptize.
