Fourth Sunday of Advent December 21, 2014 ~ 10:30 a.m. Welcome to a time of Sabbath, rest, and renewal WE CENTER OURSELVES ON GOD Glade Matters Shared moments of information and inspiration about our church family Prelude The Angel Gabriel From Heaven Came Paul Manz Processional Hymn Once in Royal David s City #145 *Call to Worship Leader: God has appointed for us places and responsibilities. Come now to claim what God has entrusted to us. People: We hear God calling us, and we seek to respond. We feel God s presence and sense God s purposes. Leader: In steadfast love and faithfulness God keeps covenant with us. People: We gather together to remember that God rules, that nothing in our lives is beyond God s care. Leader: No enemies within or without can affect or disturb when we turn to the One who strengthens us. People: We turn away from violence, troubles, and fear to seek God s revelation and sing our Creator s praise. Lighting of the Advent Wreath Candle The Candle of Love L: Love s memory is long. As we come to the last Sunday of Advent, we recall the many times we have been here before with still so much to do and so much love left unexpressed. The Hebrew Bible lesson today recalls a promise to King David, which understood to be fulfilled in the birth of Jesus. Love s promise is often kept in unexpected ways.

P: God s love endures forever. In a world where even evergreens turn dry and brittle, God s love is the one reality on which we can rely. Today, we prepare for the greatest expression of that love, as we.listen once more for the Word in the words. First Testament Lesson 2 Samuel 7: 1-11; 16 L: This is a word for today. P: God s love endures forever. Through acts as simple and common as the birth of a baby, God transforms the world, and God s promises are kept. It is that expression of faithful Love we anticipate and celebrate this day. It is that promise that brings light to our deepest night. L: So, as we light the fourth candle in eager anticipation of God s greatest promise fulfilled, what else can we do but name this candle Love? Hymn of Response One Candle Is Lit (verses 1 through 4) Time With Children Epistle Lesson Romans 16: 25-27 Gospel Lesson Luke 1: 26-38 L: The Word of God, for the people of God. P: Thanks be to God! Anthem O Come, O Come, Emmanuel arr. Louise Grant Reflecting on the Word Love Won t Let Us Be Afraid *Hymn My Heart Sings Out with Joyful Praise #106

Sharing our Joys and Concerns Pastor: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Pastor: Let us pray Silent Prayer Prayer The Prayer Jesus Taught Us Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Food Bank for December and January Let s help our neighbors chase away the chill of winter with donations of coffee, low-fat/low-sugar instant creamers, hot chocolate, tea bags, canned soups, and oatmeal. As well as food donations, cash donations are also accepted by the Glade Valley Community Services at P. O. Box 655, Walkersville, MD 21793. NOTE: We have received a special request from the GVCS for boxes of cereal. Our next Community Dinner is scheduled for Friday, January 16th. More details will be given at a later date. Thanks to Larry & Nancy Sweet for the lighting of the Advent Candle during the worship service today. Please enjoy the beautiful Poinsettias Garden in the sanctuary. They are presented in remembrance and in honor of our loved ones. Thank you to all that provided the poinsettias. Every Sunday the altar is adorned with beautiful flowers that have been provided by church members for their family and loved ones. Please sign up for a Sunday or two during 2015. We would love to have altar flowers provided for every Sunday in 2015. If flowers are ordered from the local florist, they will deliver to the church for you. The sign-up sheet is in the back of the sanctuary. Second Mile Giving for December The Frederick Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs The Religious Coalition for Emergency Needs is a faith-based organization helping the homeless, sick, and needy in Frederick County.
