Fourth Sunday of Advent December 21, 2014 ~ 10:30 a.m. Welcome to a time of Sabbath, rest, and renewal WE CENTER OURSELVES ON GOD Glade Matters Shared moments of information and inspiration about our church family Prelude The Angel Gabriel From Heaven Came Paul Manz Processional Hymn Once in Royal David s City #145 *Call to Worship Leader: God has appointed for us places and responsibilities. Come now to claim what God has entrusted to us. People: We hear God calling us, and we seek to respond. We feel God s presence and sense God s purposes. Leader: In steadfast love and faithfulness God keeps covenant with us. People: We gather together to remember that God rules, that nothing in our lives is beyond God s care. Leader: No enemies within or without can affect or disturb when we turn to the One who strengthens us. People: We turn away from violence, troubles, and fear to seek God s revelation and sing our Creator s praise. Lighting of the Advent Wreath Candle The Candle of Love L: Love s memory is long. As we come to the last Sunday of Advent, we recall the many times we have been here before with still so much to do and so much love left unexpressed. The Hebrew Bible lesson today recalls a promise to King David, which understood to be fulfilled in the birth of Jesus. Love s promise is often kept in unexpected ways.
P: God s love endures forever. In a world where even evergreens turn dry and brittle, God s love is the one reality on which we can rely. Today, we prepare for the greatest expression of that love, as we.listen once more for the Word in the words. First Testament Lesson 2 Samuel 7: 1-11; 16 L: This is a word for today. P: God s love endures forever. Through acts as simple and common as the birth of a baby, God transforms the world, and God s promises are kept. It is that expression of faithful Love we anticipate and celebrate this day. It is that promise that brings light to our deepest night. L: So, as we light the fourth candle in eager anticipation of God s greatest promise fulfilled, what else can we do but name this candle Love? Hymn of Response One Candle Is Lit (verses 1 through 4) Time With Children Epistle Lesson Romans 16: 25-27 Gospel Lesson Luke 1: 26-38 L: The Word of God, for the people of God. P: Thanks be to God!
