BLESSING OF A HOUSE - HOME PAGE PAGE 1

Holy Innocents Orthodox Church 25401 Lorin Wall Road Holden, Louisiana 70744 (504) 298-3867 Publication: BLESS_HOUSE.PUB/PDF Rev. 3 March 2013 A. D. PAGE 2 PAGE

THE BLESSING OF A HOUSE OR HOME AT THE FOUNDING OF A HOUSE P: We pray Thee, O God, that every aerial and obscure phantom may withdraw itself from us and that no demon of darkness may conceal itself in this place of building, or its materials, those who work upon its building, or those who shall enter or live therein; and that no evil spirit which instilleth darkening of intentions and rebelliousness of thought may descend into it. ALL: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation: but deliver us from evil. Amen. P. O God Almighty, who hast made the heavens with wisdom, and hast established the earth upon its firm foundations, the Creator and Author of all men: Look upon thy servant(s) and handmaid(ens), N. and N., to whom it hath seemed good to set up a house for their (his/her) dwelling in the dominion of thy power, and to rear it by building. Establish thou the same upon a stable rock, and found it according to thy divine word in the Gospel, so that neither wind nor flood nor any other thing shall be able to harm it. Graciously grant that they (he/she) may bring it to an ending; and deliver all those who shall wish to dwell therein from every attack of the enemy. PAGE PAGE 3

P. For thine is the dominion, and thine are the kingdom and the power and the glory, of the Father +, and of the Son +, and of the Holy Spirit +, now, and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. The Priest then sprinkleth the place of building and any of its building materials thereat three times with holy water, (and incenseth) and proounceth the Benediction. P. By the power given unto me by God I do bless this place of building and all of the materials to be used therefore in the Name of the Father +, and of the Son +, and of the Holy Spirit +. Amen. + + + UPON ESTABLISHING A NEW ABODE OR OF AN EXISTING HOME P: Peace be to this house. All: And to all who dwell herein. P: From the east came the Magi to Bethlehem, the first of the Gentiles to adore the Lord; and opening their treasures in the place where He abode they offered precious gifts: gold for the great King, incense for the true God, and myrrh in symbol of His burial. Say this prayer every time you enter a building, especially your own home and Churches. I command in the All Powerful Name of Jesus Christ, That all evil spirits be banished from this place And go to the Prison of the Most Holy Trinity Never to return again. Praised be Jesus Christ! P: We pray Thee, O God, that every aerial and obscure phantom may withdraw itself from us and that no demon of darkness may conceal itself in this home; and that no evil spirit which instilleth darkening of intentions and rebelliousness of thought may descend into it. P: O God our Saviour, who didst deign to enter into the house of Zaccheus, unto the salvation of the same and of all who were in the house: Do thou, the same Lord, keep safe also from all harm those who have now desired to dwell here, and who together with us PAGE 4 PAGE 9

Christ, we pray Thee: Bless the land (water) upon which this home reposes, and all the chattel of those who dwell within, their crops, and fruits. The Priest then (incenseth and) sprinkleth the land (water) thrice with P: Let us pray. Bless, O Lord God almighty, this home, that in it there may be health, purity, the strength of victory, humility, goodness and mercy, the fulfillment of Thy law, the thanksgiving to God the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. And may this blessing remain upon this home and upon all who dwell or visit herein. Through Christ our Lord. P: O Creator and Author of the human race, Giver of spiritual graces and Bestower of eternal salvation : Do thou, the same Lord, send down thy Holy Spirit with a blessing from on high upon this home; that fortified by the might of heavenly protection, it may be potent unto bodily salvation and succour and aid, unto all who shall reside in or visit this home, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. P. By the power given unto me by God I do bless this home, all who reside herein, all who visit, its land (water), and fruits, in the Name of the Father +, and of the Son +, and of the Holy Spirit +. Amen. + + + unworthy ones do offer unto thee prayers and supplications; blessing this their dwelling, and preserving their life free from aspersion. For unto thee are due all glory, honour and worship, together with thy Father who hath no beginning, and thine all-holy, and good, and life-giving Spirit, now, and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. P: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, All: now, and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. P: Let us pray to the Lord, All: Lord have mercy. P: O most Holy Trinity, P: O Lord, All: wash away our sins. P: O Master, All: pardon our transgressions. P: O Holy One, All: visit and heal our infirmities, for thy Name's sake. All: Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from the Evil One: At the entrance: P: I command in the All Powerful Name of Jesus Christ, That all PAGE 8 PAGE 5

evil spirits be banished from this place and go to the Prison of the Most Holy Trinity Never to return again. All: Praised be Jesus Christ! All: O God, protect our going out and our coming in; Let us share the hospitality of this home with all who visit us, that those who enter here may know your love and peace. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Priest then (incenseth and) sprinkleth the entryway thrice with In the living room / den: P: O God our Father, give your blessings to all who share this room, that they reside together in your Kingdom throughout eternity. We ask this in the name of Your Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ. In the kitchen: P: O God, you fill the hungry with good things. Send your blessing on those who work in this kitchen, and make them ever thankful for their daily bread. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen. P: O Lord Jesus Christ, Who didst command that those who worthily eat Thy flesh and drink Thy blood shall possess eternal life, we beg Thee: bless this place wherein the sustenance of physical life is prepared, its preparation, and those who prepare that sustenance. PAGE 6 In the dining room: P: Bless, O Lord, your gifts of food and drink, and those who here sit to table; through Christ our Lord. In the bedrooms: P: Bless this bedroom, Lord, so that all for whom it is their own, may they be happy with You here in this life, and for all eternity in Heaven. P: When their time in this life is fulfilled, may they fall asleep in You. P: Protect them, O Lord, as they wake; watch over them as they sleep, that awake they may keep watch with Christ, and asleep, rest in his peace. P: Grant this through Christ our Lord. Outside: P: O God Our Father, in the name of your Son, Our Lord Jesus PAGE 7
