You ve heard us mention that this was coming, and now the College Students are officially up for adoption! Outside of the Young Adult Sunday School class/ahg Room, there is a board with college students names on it, ready for the taking. We d love it if all of the students were adopted by October 11th. Here are the details & instructions: Take a name off of the board & leave your phone number to become their mentor. Reach out to your college student immediately, initiating a relationship but not revealing your identity (it will be fun!). Great ways to do this is through letters & packages. For your initial contact, explain that you re their LUMC Mystery Mentor and that you ll be sending them love throughout the year. You can also ask them to write you back via Emily Roach s email: catalystyouthmin@gmail.com. Emily will then send you any replies she receives. Ask them their favorite things (that you can send them), find out how life is and what we as a congregation can pray for on their behalf. In December, you will be revealed at a special dinner for you & your College Student. Date TBD. After you are revealed, you can enjoy an open, mentoring relationship with the student for the second semester. Be as creative as you wish & if you need suggestions, contact Emily at the above email address. That s it! Just reach out in love as often as you can, we suggest at least twice a month. Did you know that UMW turn faith, hope and love into action on behalf of women, children and youth through our community, state, United States and around the world? The World Thank Offering is an opportunity for individuals to respond to God's abundance and grace gifts of gratitude. The funds collected are used in the total program of mission carried on through United Methodist Women's national office in the United States and around the world. Did you know that one of the UMW mission programs is in our own area, the Bethlehem Community Child Development Center in Winston Salem NC? Spontaneous additional gifts can also be given! Do you have a pair of shoes? Do you have a quarter? Can you give a quarter for every pair of shoes that you own? Over the next couple of Sundays, UMW members will be passing out World Thank Offering labels. Please take a label, put it on an envelope, and return the envelope with a quarter for each pair of shoes you own. You can give your envelope to Janet Sizemore, Debbie Norman or to any UMW member! Please plan to attend a potluck meal and our UMW World Thank Offering Program on Thursday, November 5th, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in Asbury Hall. Bring a dish or two to share with others! Donna Ireland, Yadkinville District Officer will be our speaker. And, we ll be counting our quarters! Oh, and you don t have to be a United Methodist Woman to join in this event, all are welcome! If you have any questions, please see Janet Sizemore, Debbie Norman or any UMW member. The Shepherd s Center of Greater Winston-Salem needs teams of workers to help older adults with yard clean-up, leaf-raking, trimming bushes, etc. This is an ongoing need, but fall is the time when many requests come in. Teams of 4-10 adults, or youth with adult supervision are ideal. To learn more about opportunities, call 748-0217 and speak with Drea Parker or Linda Lewis. HAVE YOU SIGNED UP TO WORK IN THE NURSERY?
