Managing Committee for the Year 2013-2014 PRESIDENT Mr. A.T. Rayudu 9848192688 VICE-PRESIDENT Mr. D.V.S.S. Somayajulu 9849128028 HONY. SECRETARY Mr. K.S. Nagendraprasad 9949449999 HONY. TREASURER Mr. K. Madhu 9848277777 Editor: Vice President D.V.S.S. Somayajulu Committee Members Mr. C. Balasatish Chairman - Entertainment Mr. P.S. Raju Chairman - Finance Control & Management Information Systems (MIS) Mr. V. Ravikanth Chairman - Bar & General Service Mr. N.S.R. Bapuji Chairman - Chambers, Banquet, Auditorium Mr. A. Suresh Chairman - Catering Committee Mr. M. Sudhir Chairman - Sports & Library Mrs. Sandhya Godey Chairperson - Ladies Committee Greetings to all members. With just a few weeks to go before I hand over the reins of Presidency to the incoming President and his elected team, it is time for a little introspection. Although there was not much activity this month within the Club itself apart from the usual club activities like regular Friday movies, Beer and Biryani on Sunday, bumper Tambola on the third Saturday and the medical counseling by Seven Hills Hospital team, we had some major winds of change blowing across the country as well as within the state. It was sad day indeed when it was decided to bifurcate our strong and large state. The division evoked mixed feelings and only time will tell us what repercussions this act will have. The political campaigns for the 15th Lok Sabha elections threw up new leaders and a strong new government at the center. I take this opportunity of congratulating our Club member Sri Hari Babu who won the prestigious Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha seat with a huge margin to represent us in parliament. I would also like to congratulate other winners,mr M Srinivasa Rao(Avanthi) who has won the Lok Sabha seat from Anakapalli, Mr Ganta Srinivas Rao who won the assembly seat from Bhemili, and Mr. P. Vishnu Kumar Raju, VSP-North, Sri Kala Venkta Rao, Smt. Mrinalini, MLA, Cheepurupalli, W/o. Mr. Ganapathi Rao and Mr. R.G.P.K. Ranga Rao, MLA, Bobbili. A very good development during this election was the strong appeal of exercising franchise as well as responsible voting. This is something I feel that our Club members should also adopt during the forthcoming Club elections. New members were inducted and I hope that their presence in the club with enrich the club atmosphere in some way. Elections for the next years managing Committee has been announced and I wish all the contestants and aspirants all the best and look forward to a dynamic and enterprising team taking over at the end of the month. Warm regards From the President s Desk From the Vice-President s Desk A.T. RAYUDU Time and tide wait for no man. Change is a constant. Two sentences that define how quickly time has passed. It seems only like yesterday this may sound like a cliched line but it seems like yesterday we look change and the year has passed. It was a year of ups and downs, but discipline was enforced swiftly and surely. Apart from this financial/fiscal discipline is the need of the hour. The Club and its glorious heritage must be preserved and strengthened so that the younger generation are as proud as we are of being members of Waltair Club. Let us all work together for a better tomorrow. I thank you for the opportunity given to me and wish the incoming team all the very best. - SOMAYAJULU D.V.S.S 2

From the Honorary Secretary s Desk It seems only like yesterday that I had taken charge as the Honorary secretary. Time has been really flown by in the last 12 months and there is all-round improvement in the Club. Catering was an area of concern and we attempted to do our best and we are in the process of still improving the same. Discipline was also strictly enforced in the club. I am sure the new team will take this endeavor forward. The last month has been a busy month with the accounts and Annual general report being prepared. However, the renovated Waltair Lounge and the 1883 extension have been opened for the members on 6-6-2014. In addition the renovated ANCHOR HALL has been opened for the members on 14-6-2014 The ladies card room, bridge room and the senior citizens hall have been shifted to the ANCHOR HALL. A new covered area has been opened for the drivers to wait. Despite the office work taking the bulk of my time I managed to bestow my attention on the above and I am sure that all the new facilities will be useful for the members and their families. For me it was a personal privilege to serve the club as the Honorary Secretary for 2013-2014. Once again I wish you all the very best and I wish the incoming team all success and a good year ahead.. - K.S. If a man would, according to law, give to another an orange, instead of saying:- I give you that orange which one should think would be what is called in legal phraseology, an absolute conveyance of all right and title there, the phrase would run this:- I give you all and singular, my estate and interest, right, title, claim and advantage of and in that orange, with all its rind, skin, juice, pulp and pips, and all right and advantage therein, with full power to bite, cut, such, and otherwise eat the same, or give the same away as fully and effectually as I the said A.B. am now entitled to the bite, cut, such, or otherwise eat the same orange, or give the same away, with or without its rind, skin, juice, pulp, and pips, anything, hereinbefore, or hereinafter, or in any other deed, or deeds, instrument or instruments of what nature of kind soever, to the contrary in any wise, notwithstanding, with much more to the same effect. Such is the language of lawyers; and it is very gravely held by the most learned men among them, that by the omission of any of these words the right to the said orange would not pass to the person for whose use the same was intended. --oo0oo-- A noted criminal defense lawyer was making the closing argument for his client accused of murder, although the body of the victim had never been found. The lawyer dramatically turned to the courtroom s clock and, pointing to it, announced, Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I have some astounding news. I have found the supposed victim of the this murder to be alive! Within the next thirty seconds, she will walk through the door of this courtroom. A heavy quiet suddenly fell over the courtroom as all waited with bated breath for the dramatic entry. But nothing happened. The lawyer continued, The mere fact that you were watching the door, expecting the victim to walk into this courtroom is clear proof that you have fare more than even a reasonable doubt as to whether a murder was actually committed. The jury was instructed, field out, and filled back in just ten minutes with a guilty verdict. When the judge brought the proceedings to an end, the dismayed lawyer chased after the jury foreman: Guilty? How could you convict? You were all watching the door! Well, the foreman explained, Most of us were watching the door. But one of us was watching the defendant, and he wasn t watching the door. Defendant: Judge: Defendant: --oo0oo-- Before I plead guilty or not guilty I would like to ask the court to appoint a lawyer to defend me. You were caught in the actual commission of crime, with the merchandise on you, a gun in your hand, and your victim on the floor. What could a lawyer possibly say in your defense? That s just it I m curious also to hear what he could possibly say. --oo0oo-- A Lawyer dies and goes to heaven, where he is brought before God. A lawyer, eh? says God. We ve never had a lawyer in heaven before. Argue a point of law for my edification. The lawyer goes into a panic and says, Oh, God, I cannot think of an argument worthy of your notice. But I ll tell you what... you argue a point of law and I ll refute you. --oo0oo-- A lawyer was defending a man accused of housebreaking, and said to the court: Your Honor, I submit that my client did not break into the house at all. He found the parlor window open and merely inserted his right arm and removed a few trifling articles. Now, my client s arm is not himself, and I fail to see how your can punish the whole individual for an offense committed by only one of his limbs. That argument, said the judge, is very well put. Following it logically, I sentence the defendant s arm to one year s imprisonment. He can accompany it or not, as he chooses. The defendant smiled, and with his lawyer s assistance unscrewed his cork arm, and leaving it in the dock, walked out. - D.V.S.S.
