Leader BIBLE STUDY When Jesus ascended to heaven, He instructed the disciples to go to Jerusalem and wait. Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would come upon them. So the disciples went back to Jerusalem, where they waited and prayed. The time came for the Jewish festival called Pentecost, or the Feast of Weeks. As with the Passover festival, Jews from all over the Roman Empire would be at the temple in Jerusalem. During this festival, the Holy Spirit came to believers in Jerusalem. They heard a sound like a violent, rushing wind. When the Holy Spirit filled the disciples, they were able to speak in foreign languages. They went out into the city and began to preach, and the Jews from all over the world were amazed. These disciples were from Galilee, but they were speaking in languages the visitors could understand. The disciples told people about God s plan. The Holy Spirit helped Peter teach: Jesus is the Messiah; Jesus was killed, but He is alive! (Acts 2:22-36) The Holy Spirit convicted the crowd and they asked, Brothers, what must we do? Peter told them to repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus. (Acts 2:37-38) That day, three thousand people received salvation! God kept His promise to send the Holy Spirit. With the Holy Spirit s help, Jesus disciples could share the gospel with the entire world.

10:00 10:15 / 12:00 12:15 / Memory Verse / Review / Prayer Memory verse: God works in you. Philippians 2:13 Say: Obeying God and doing His work are not things we can do on our own. We are sinners, but our key passage reminds us that God works in us to help us obey Him and do the work He has for us. Go over memory verse with your class. You should have memory verse stickers in your lesson bags, if you don t please let us know. Ideas for helping kids with memory verse: Say the Bible verse in different voices (robot, baby, mom etc) Sing it! Clap while saying the words. Review the Bible Story The Holy Spirit came to Jesus followers just as Jesus promised. The Holy Spirit helped Jesus friends tell people from many nations the good news about Jesus. Three thousand people became followers of Jesus in just one day! Review questions: Who came to Jesus friends just as He promised? (the Holy Spirit) How were the friends able to speak in languages they did not know? (The Holy Spirit gave them power.) Who told the crowd that Jesus is the Messiah? (Peter) Prayer: Use prayer bag prompts to pray with kids, let kids share any prayers. Pray: God, thank You for giving us the Holy Spirit when we turn away from our sin and put our trust in Jesus. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for changing us to be more like Jesus and helping us do God s work. Amen.
The Bible Story Acts 2:1-4, 22-42 BIBLE STORY FOR TODDLERS After Jesus went up to heaven, His friends were praying together. Suddenly a sound like a rushing wind came from heaven. The friends were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and the Spirit helped them speak in different languages. Peter told a large crowd of people that Jesus showed He is God s Son by the miracles He did, but the leaders of the people killed Him. Peter said, God made Jesus alive again because He is the Messiah. We have seen Jesus alive! When the people heard, they asked, What should we do? Peter said, Tell God you are sorry for disobeying Him. Trust Jesus and be baptized! That day, thousands of people heard God s words and trusted in Jesus. BIBLE POINTS: God sent the Holy Spirit to Jesus friends. Jesus friends told people about God s plan. People who trust in Jesus receive the Holy Spirit.
