Current Focus Lacking Discipling Programmes We made a mistake. What we should have done when people crossed the line of faith and become ChrisGans, we should have started telling people and teaching people that they have to take responsibility to become self feeders. We should have gohen people, taught people, how to read their bible between services, how to do the spiritual pracgces much more aggressively on their own - Bill Hybels Calendars Filled With Ac4vity Offering programmes is not the issue. We discovered that surprisingly few churches have a well- conceived model of discipleship that they implement. The result is that churches feel they have fulfilled their obligagon if they provide a broad menu of courses, events and other experiences, but such a well intengoned but disjointed approach leaves people confused and imbalanced - George Barna People can be busy involved in church work, but not necessarily involved in the work of the church which is, making disciples - Rico Tice 9

Best Inten4ons Not Just A Sunday Event I m just going to say it: Pastors, move beyond your arrogance and stop thinking your preaching is enough to be the church s discipleship strategy. This is not just my opinion. Recent research done by LifeWay Research indicates that 56% of Pastors surveyed believe that their weekly sermon, or another one of their teaching Gmes was the most important discipling ministry in the church. While it is great to see the recent renaissance of faith- based preaching, along with it we have to jeqson the idea that if people just listen to my sermons, they will grow spiritually instead, discipleship is a daily process. Pastors, we have to develop more robust discipleship plans than just our weekly messages. Discipleship is not a Sunday event, it s a daily commitment - Ed Stetzer Sermon Necessary But Not Sufficient Sunday sermons are necessary but not sufficient while preaching is one form of the ministry of the Word, many other forms are reflected in the Bible and in contemporary ChrisGan church life. It is important to grasp this point clearly, or we shall try to make preaching carry a load it cannot bear; that is, the burden of doing all the Bible expects of every form of ministry of the Word - Col Marshall 10

New Mind Set Key Steps 1. Convict The pastor must be convicted of the central place of disciple- making for himself and his congregagon, and preach and teach it as a priority for all believers 3. Reshape All exisgng ministries around a disciple- making goal and process 2. Model Disciple- making within the leadership core, teaching and training them how to reproduce disciple making in others 4. Instruct Members how to recognise and u4lize every opportunity as a disciple making opportunity Source: Sarie King 16

Disciple Making is an inten9onal, rela9onal, Christ- oriented acgvity, exercised by every believer, to use every opportunity in encouraging and teaching others to know, grow and faithfully follow Jesus. It s an acgvity that recognizes individuals are at different stages of spiritual growth and understanding, and responds appropriately, urging them forward toward the next step. Disciple making is a ministry of congnuous reproduc9on and mul9plica9on. Source: Sarie King

Command Every Day Every Believer Every Opportunity The command to go and make disciples is not an opgon. This is not a great commission as much as it is an everyday commission for every believer, every moment of their everyday life. Nowhere does the Bible call this a great commission, even though in concept it is great. In reality it could be translated as you go, make disciples. It is for everyone, every moment of their everyday life. We are not called to just go to church, we are called to be the church where we live and work - Dann Spader 24
