LOVE SHOWN IN ACTION Do you receive the word of God with joy as the Thessalonians did? Their faith showed in their actions. They became models for other believers. The first reading tells us to put our faith into action. This passage is part of a long list of ordinances God commanded the Israelites to observe. God will judge us by how we treat our neighbors. God will hear the cries of any whom we neglect or mistreat and will come to their defense. In today s Gospel the Pharisees put the question of God s law to Jesus. Which commandment of the law is the greatest? (Matthew 22:36) How could he possibly choose from all the detailed commandments the Jews observed? He was sure to offend somebody by his answer! Of course, Jesus went right to the heart of the matter. Love is the greatest commandment love of God and love of neighbor. Everything else is based on this. FIRST FRIDAY EUCHARISTIC DEVOTION Our next First Friday Eucharistic Devotion will be on November 3rd following the 8:30 a.m. Mass. We will have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.

New Book for Discussion Group with Fr. Julio In Search of Belief, by Joan Chittister Sister Joan Chittister is a Benedictine sister and the recipient of eleven honorary degrees, a bestselling author, and international lecturer on peace and social justice. She has been called one of America s visionary spiritual voices. A commentary on this book states that it is A refreshing and contemporary analysis of the true meaning of the Creed. Honest and thought-provoking, In Search of Belief calls us to spiritual adulthood. It is Not for the spiritually faint-hearted. Another commentary states: In this stirring testament to the resiliency of the Christian faith, Joan Chittister spells out the meaning of the Apostles Creed, phrase by phrase. For her, this testament is not an index of dogmas, but a catalog of choices, an inventory of possibilities, a roster of visions. She breathes new life into these familiar phrases. Still another commentary says: What makes the book so refreshing is that the Creed is made relevant to the modern age. There is absolutely no chance of anyone being bored! I hope you will join the discussion group. I have chosen this book because it will help the reader develop a more genuine adult faith. The book can be purchased on Amazon.com We will begin discussing the book on Tuesday, Nov. 7. We will meet every Tuesday: 9:30 a.m. at St. Clement s Parish Office building, and 7:00 p.m. at Annunciation (enter through the back side of the church). Peace. Fr. Julio Respect Life This weekend ends our baby bottle campaign.
