If You Love Me, Keep My Commandments I) Christ is risen, Alleluia! Truly He is risen, Alleluia! Our Easter Joy continues 6 th Sunday of Easter, 8 Sundays of Easter II) Think of a life-changing day Help our reflection on readings A) Acceptance letter, Graduation B) Day you were pronounced cancer free, Survived life threatening C) Wedding, Ordination, Birth of a Child, Special Birthday D) First Eucharist, Confirmation E) Does everyone have a day? It shows on your face! III) Multiply joy 70 x 7: Easter Joy is Easter OverJoyed! I will ask the Father to send another teacher, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, who will be with you always H) That doesn t mean I m gone, I will not leave you orphans, but will be in you and I am in the Father 1) Language of mutual love Fr. Keith explained eloquently last week I) The Father loves whoever love me, and will abide in you J) How do we love Christ? Observe His Commandments! K) So, observe my commandments! 1) Commandments are the way into mutual love and unity with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. 2) Divine and Eternal life, based on love. VI) What are Jesus Commandments? 1) Love one another as I love you 2) Preach the Gospel to all nations and creatures 3) Baptize in the name of the F, S, and HS 4) Do this in memory of me (a) Take this, all of you, and eat of it (b) Take this, all of you, and drink from it 5) Follow these, and we have unity and communion with the Trinity and share in their Divine Life! VII) Reason for our Joy, our Easter OverJoy! A) Lifeblood of the Trinity is mutual and total gift of self in love! B) Our joy -- We are invited into that love C) Jesus lays an invitation down on the Eucharistic Table for us VIII) Remember your special day! 1) Death to new life 2) Mutual gift of self in love from one to another B) So it is with our Faith 2

1) Two Sacraments in Jesus Commandments: (a) Baptism (from I Peter, Second Reading) Jesus accepted death in the flesh, and was brought to life in the Spirit (i) First Eucharist today Baptism Candles, Sprinkling Rite (b) Eucharist Do this in memory of me 2) Gift to us: Love shown in the Total gift of self in the Eucharist, Jesus own Body and Blood 3) Our gift to Christ: Love shown in the Total gift of self in the Eucharist, we offer our lives to Christ in the gifts of bread and wine 4) How do we join our lives as Gifts of love, carried up and offered with the Bread and Wine? (a) Follow Jesus Commandments! IX) Let s see how it all comes together! A) The Good News, the reason for our Hope and Easter OverJoy B) In Today s Gospel Jesus tells us: C) I love you and invite you to share in the Divine Life the Father shares with me! D) If you wish to accept the invitation, keep my Commandments: 1) Share the love I have placed in you with others: Love one another as I Love you 2) Preach, teach the Gospel, the Good News, in word and deed, to all nations, creatures 3) Share the gift of the Divine Life of the Trinity by Baptizing in the name of the F, S, and HS 4) Nurture the gift of Divine Life by Celebrating the Eucharist in memory of me E) In turn, Jesus promises us: 3

1) I will not leave you orphans! I am with you always, completing the work I began in you at Baptism, preparing you to follow me to where I am now, risen bodily in Glory and with the Father. F) The Father and I will send you a teacher, to continue to instruct you in my ways, that you might discover, know, and share Truth. X) All of these commandments Send Us! Call to vocation, action A) Love is always in motion, it does not rest with itself but is always sharing, giving in fullness definition B) Cannot sit on it, must go out and share our OverJoy! C) Our Call to Evangelize the world in Truth, which we will hear more about as we approach the Feast of Pentecost. XI) Finally, how do we do greater things than Jesus? A) Look left, Look right! B) Member of the same One Body, One Blood! C) Since our Lord s Supper the night before He died, D) To those who today receive their First Eucharist E) All united as One in the Mystical Body of Christ, F) One Communion of Saints! XII) You will do the works I do, and greater! A) Jesus healed how many more has the Church healed in 2,000 plus years in the life of the Communion of Saints? B) Jesus preached the Kingdom JP II the most seen and heard person in human history, and that s just one member of our Communion! How many more billion? 4

C) Jesus brought forgiveness, healing and hope How many more acts of forgiveness, healing and hope in the centuries of our Communion of Saints, the Church? D) Share this with the none-ers! 1) Christ desires us to do greater works than His, 2) We cannot do this alone 3) we do this as a Church XIII) If you Love Christ, follow His Commandments! A) This week, nurture your spiritual life by reflecting and following these commandments B) We ll get you started out on the right path right now! C) Do the Mass in remembrance of Him! 1) We ll take care of that one right now! 2) One down, three more to go! D) The rest of the week --- E) Be a gift of Love to one another! F) Preach the Good News G) Help the Communion of Saints Do Great Deeds! XIV) Do these things, and you will be loved by the Father, Christ will be present to you, and your East OverJoy will be complete. 5
