JUNGIAN ODYSSEY The Jungian Odyssey is now approaching its 4 th year of success as an offcampus, English-language retreat. At this occasion ISAPZURICH opens its post-graduate program to all with interest in C.G. Jung & Analytical Psychology. Taking place each year in a different region of Switzerland, the Odyssey affords immersion in the landscapes that so influenced Jung s sense of psyche. In this setting we illuminate traditional areas of theory dream, fairytale, expressive arts, bodymind, individuation and the collective. Moreover, theory is advanced through the presentation of new research and through hands-on exploration of theory applied to personal development and clinical practice. 2009 DESTRUCTION & CREATION The Jungian Odyssey 2009 takes place in Sils Maria, a tranquil village located at 5,915 ft / 1,803 m in Switzerland s Engadine valley. Cherished for its shimmering lakes, daunting peaks, brilliant light and rejuvenating air, the Engadine was a refuge for Charlie Sils Maria at Lake Sils, www.swiss-image.ch Chaplin, among others. Sils provided a retreat for Friedrich Nietzsche, and historical guests at Hotel Waldhaus, our venue, include Thomas Mann, Hermann Hesse, Rainer Maria Rilke and CG and Emma Jung. In this temenos we will explore the subject, Destruction and Creation: Facing the Ambiguities of Power. Aiming to uncover the archetypes shifting and transformational energies, we bear in mind the etymology of power in potentia the potential to destroy, to create, perhaps even to destroy in order to create. VENUE, COST & REGISTRATION The 5-star Waldhaus is a 100-year-old castellated grand hotel that offers the romantic ambience of a by-gone era without sacrificing modern comforts: sauna, swimming pool, massage and more. Internet is available at cost in each room, as well as in the hotel business center. www.waldhaus-sils/en.ch The Odyssey fee covers bus transport to Sils Maria and back to Zurich all retreat events full room & board (excluding dinners on 2 excursion dates). Travel to and from Switzerland is not included. With registration no later than 15 March 2009, the fee per person is CHF 3400.00 (single) or CHF 3260.00 (double, per person). Details and downloadable Registration Information at www.jungianodyssey.ch.

EXCURSIONS Fex Tal, www.swiss-image.ch Nietzsche House [In Sils at] last, I have found... refuge in the loveliest spot on earth: I never had it so quiet, and all 50 conditions of my poor life appear to be met here. I take this discovery both as an unexpected and undeserved gift. (Nietzche, KSB, 6, No. 122) From 1881 1888 Friederich Nietzsche summered in Sils Maria, finding a place that made his suffering more bearable and the concentration to write much of Thus Spake Zarathustra. Today the Nietzsche House exhibits a number of his original manuscripts, letters and first editions. A walk along the Lake of Sils to Silvaplana follows Nietzsche s trail to the The Romantic Fex Tal The entrance of Hotel Waldhaus is also the portal to the Fex Tal, one of the Engadine s most beautiful valleys. The Fex Tal affords an easy walk along a traffic-free country road, where the unspoiled nature is interrupted only by the hoof-beat of horse-drawn carriages. Historically the Fex Tal offered routes for southbound smugglers! renowned boulder that inspired his idea of the eternal return. Robbi Museum This museum is a small jewel devoted to exhibiting the few but remarkable works of Andrea Robbi (1864 1945), a re-discovered painter and native of Sils Maria. When his own father died, Robbi seems to have looked on Nietzsche as a surrogate. Perhaps influenced by Nietzsche s death, Robbi spent his last fifty years in Sils in total and abject isolation. Segantini Museum A trip to St. Moritz aims at a visit to the Segantini Museum, built in 1908 in celebration of the great Swiss artist, Giovanni Segantini (1858 1899). Segan-tinti spent the last five years of his life living and painting in the Engadine. Housing the world s largest collection of Segantini s works, the museum exhibits his famous, largescale Life Death Nature.
