June 2017 Volume 15 Issue 6 T h e N e w s l e t t e r o f N o r t h s i d e C o m m u n i t y C h u r c h Are You Growing Spiritually? Adrian Dixon, Lead Pastor It s a fair question. Every so often, we should do a spiritual check up to see where we are in our relationship with the Lord. It s so easy to get busy with life that we neglect the most important relationship we could ever have. There is a direct correlation between our relationship with God and our relationship with others. As we roll through the summer months, take a moment to answer this question Am I growing spiritually? However you answer it, the real courage is going to be in following through on those areas that would strengthen your relationship with God. So here s some areas to asses whether your growing spiritually: Prayer. Do you pray? If so, how often? More than just the mechanical prayers that we offer at meals or bedtime, do you spend time talking to God? It doesn t always have to be in an audible voice, but do you live your life in such a way that prayer is part of the fabric of who you are? Prayer is our conversation with God and His conversation with us. You cannot grow spiritually without prayer. Ready to strengthen your prayer life? Check this out: www.str.org/articles/ten-tips-to-help-your-prayer-life#.ws7kfde1uhs Bible Study. Much like prayer, God speaks to us through His Word. It s so easy to put your Bible on a shelf and literally forget about it. In our current climate, the Bible and Bible study methods are as accessible as they ve ever been. Is there anything keeping you from reading God s Word? You cannot expect to know God or grow spiritually without spending time in Scripture. For a great article on ways to study the Bible, check out: www.cru.org/train-and-grow/help-others-grow/mentoring/five-techniques-study.html Radical Faith. Don t get too caught up on the word radical. What I mean by that, is there something you re willing to let go of and trust God with? All to often, we take matters into our own hands and work towards the solution we think is best. Part of growing spiritually is found in trust. The writer of Hebrews tells us, that without faith, it is impossible to please God. If you re not trusting God in the little, day to day things, then you won t trust Him in the big things. Learning to trust God and actually trusting Him is vital to growing spiritually. To help in learning how to trust God more, check out: www.biblestudytools.com/bible-study/topical-studies/7-daily-steps-to-trust-in-the-lord-with-all-your-heart.html Community of Believers. If you re a follower of Christ, you need to be continually surrounded by a group of believers. Scripture indicates that this is not negotiable Do not forsake the assembling of believers - Hebrews 10:25. If church or small group Bible study are viewed as something I have to do, you won t grow spiritually. There is power from the Holy Spirit when believers come together to worship, pray, sing and study. God gave us each other because He knows that we need each other. To see why we need each other, check out: https://newspring.cc/articles/4-reasons-christians-need-the-church Sharing Your Faith. As a Christ follower, sharing your faith is often the most anxiety laden, heart stopping thing we could be asked to do. Yet, Christ tells us to seek the lost and to make disciples of all nations. If we re not growing spiritually, we won t be sharing with others how God is working in our life. If we re willing to trust Christ with our eternity, then we need to learn to trust Him when we re sharing our faith with others. For some great insights on sharing your faith, check out: https://www.cru.org/train-and-grow/10-basic-steps/7-the-christian-and-witnessing.html

Make Our Church Chairs Great Again Update Our sanctuary chairs have had a good life. They ve lived in three locations, have been stacked multiple times and supported people of all sizes. As they begin to break down, it s time for something new! We have ordered 150 new chairs that will be arriving this Fall. We need your help to offset the cost. Each chair is approximately $50.00. If you re able to help, be sure to note your gift for chair chairs. As of May 31st, we ve received enough pledges/support to pay for 70 chairs. We re almost half-way there! A Gift of Stock Can Make A Difference! Last year Northside received just over $15,000.00 in stock gifts. Those gifts allowed us to do more ministry than we could have imagined. Already this year, we have received a gift of stock. Your gift of stock can have both eternal and person impact: 1) A gift of stock to the church avoids capital gains tax for you on the increase in the value of the stock. 2) You receive a deduction for the full market value of the stock at the time of the gift to the church. Check with your qualified tax advisor for specifics related to your personal situation. If you would like to donate a gift of stock to Northside, please contact Pastor Adrian at adrian@northsidecommunity.com. Operation Christmas Child June Collection During the month of June, we ll be collecting toys for our shoebox packing in November. You can drop off donations in the Operation Christmas Child bin in the lobby.
