Hear Ye, Hear Ye: Advanced Placement European History Summer Assignment By royal decree, her majesty, Queen Smith, has bestowed upon you, her brave knights, a summer adventure that only you can perform. Your journey has three quests. Be brave: be thorough, and may wisdom guide you on your perilous adventure! In order to prepare for our journey into European History, you will need to give yourself a head start by completing the following tasks over the summer. The three QUESTS are due the FIRST day of class. Adventure #1: A Quest of Boundaries and Seas Create a map of Europe. The map should be colored and clearly labeled. A list of countries, bodies of water and territories are included. Using the country s listed, identify each country s capital city on a separate sheet. *Note: you do not need to label the cities on the map. HOWEVER, you will want to memorize the capital cities and countries. *You will have a map quiz the Thursday that you come back. So, use your map to study. *The map I included may be enlarged (somewhere such as Kinko s can help) and you may want to copy the blank map just in case you make a mistake! Adventure #2: A Quest for the Literate Read Chapter 10: The Renaissance and Discovery. The reading is included in your folder. Take notes on the reading as you will have a multiple choice quiz the first day of school. You may use any notes you take on the quiz! Please do not write in the Reader (reading packet) as I will need to reuse them! I will collect the Readers, in the provided folder, the first day of school.
Adventure #3: A Quest for the Adventurer Since the Renaissance is a time period of glorious art which reflects the new ideals such as humanism, you have an optional artistic component for the true adventurers among us. Here you will select a Renaissance or Mannerist artistic work and recreate the masterpiece by including yourself and/or friends depending on how many individuals are in the original. You can update the painting to an interpretation in current time or you can recreate the image as a Renaissance masterpiece in actual form (you added of course). You can recreate using any artistic means desired: photography, a painting, a sketch In addition, you will need a brief summary of the original artist and how this is an example of a Renaissance artwork. Make sure to include your improved title which should be modeled after the original. Think: Pageant of the Masters! *Note: this is optional, however, if your masterpiece is of quality, the Queen will grant you 5 extra points on either the reading or map quiz. Your choice!
