Gardens of the Righteous: Class 35 The Garden of guarding the Sunnah 17 th May 2015 28 Rajab, 1435 A.H.
The Garden of guarding the Sunnah and its manner One of the gardens of the righteous is to guard the Sunnah and its manner. There is an incident after the death of the Prophet SAW. One of the companions Abu Zar RA was walking in the market and he saw people busy selling and buying. He said to everyone that you are busy here and the inheritance of the Prophet SAW is being distributed in the masjid. So all the people went to the masjid and start looking outside the masjid but could not find anything. Then they went to Abu Zar R.A to ask him about the inheritance. Abu Zar R.A asked them what did they see in the Masjid. They said they saw people reading Quran and talking about the Prophet SAW. He replied this is the inheritance of the Prophet SAW. The real fortune is what the Prophet SAW left for as his Sunnah. He did not leave behind a dirham or dinar but he left the treasure of Sunnah for us. This is because following the Sunnah will help us in the Duniya and also in the Akhirah. The Prophet SAW said, when a person dies and they take him to the graveyard, three things come with him and two leave and only one stays with him. The three PAGE 1
things that come with him are his children, his wealth and his deeds. The children and wealth will leave and his deeds will be with him in the grave. This is the real treasure Meaning of Sunnah Sunnah means the way of the Prophet SAW. This includes: His worship No one is better in worship than the Prophet SAW in worship. His manners No one is better in manners than the Prophet SAW. His dealing. No one is better in dealings than the Prophet SAW. PAGE 2
How will I guard Sunnah of the Prophet SAW? 1. Have the knowledge of the Sunnah 2. We need to act upon the Sunnah We cannot do more or leave the Prophet SAW s Sunnah. Islam is the complete way of life. Every detail of how we should live our live is mentioned in the Sunnah. When we follow the Sunnah then it is the best way to live our life. The route to act upon the Sunnah is to know about the Sunnah. The best person to live in this universe is the Prophet SAW. We need to guard his Sunnah by applying it in our lives. The more we know about the Sunnah, the more Allah will appreciate. Allah gave us an ideal example in the form of the Prophet SAW so we need to follow him blindly as he is ideal. We should not overpraise him and at the same time we should not under estimate him Now we will study Ayat Al Quran to know about the Prophet SAW. PAGE 3
Surah Najm Allah swears by the Stars when it falls i.e. the shooting stars. The subject of the oath follows after the swear. Allah affirms that! Your companion is not mislead nor will he misguide you.! The Prophet will utter is not because of his desires! He is nothing except inspiration from Allah. We need to have the confidence that whatever the Prophet SAW is saying or doing is with wisdom. The Prophet SAW said to Umar Ibn Khattab, You will not attain full faith till you love me more than anyone else. Umar Ibn Khattab said, I love you more than my father, my children and everyone else but I love myself more. Then the Prophet SAW replied and told him that he needs to love the Prophet SAW more than anyone else. Everything that our Prophet said and did is an inspiration from Allah. This includes what he liked, what he ate, the way he slept, he woke, he ate etc. If we praise the Prophet SAW one time then Allah praises us ten times and if we do ten times then Allah will praise us hundred times. Surah Al Qalam, Ayah 1 There is no better witness than Allah. Allah is starting the surah with an alert i.e. a letter that is a secret known to only Allah. Then Allah swears by the pen and what ever is written by the pen. The subject of the oath is Prophet SAW. Allah affirms what comes after the oath. In Makkah the Prophet SAW was the wisest person. Everyone knew him as Saadiq The Truthful and Ameen The Trustworthy. When the Prophet reached the age of 40 then Allah chose him to be a Prophet and Allah assigned him the mission to tell the people about la ilaha illal la. When the prophet SAW gave the people warning and glad tiding then the people told him that you are majnoon (mad). The disbelievers accused that something happened to his mind (Majnoon) mad and they also accused him to be a magician and a fortuneteller. Here in the surah Allah is swears and affirming that the Prophet SAW is not majnoon (mad) and that the Prophet SAW has the reward that is never discontinued. Allah is witnessing that the Prophet SAW is on top of the good manners. This means he is beyond the expectation of what can be a good manner. A Bedouin came to the Prophet SAW and grabbed him and said to him that you are unfair. Umar RA came and was very upset with Bedouin and wanted to kill him. The Prophet SAW asked Umar RA to give him money and to ask the Bedouin to behave nice. PAGE 5
The Prophet SAW never became angry for himself. He only got angry when Allah s rule was violated. Our anger and happiness should be for Allah. Ourself is an amanah and we need to bring it back to Allah with good. Another incident the Prophet SAW is being tortured for 13 years. The companions came to him and complained of the hardship and asked him when is the victory. The Prophet SAW asked them to be patient. Then the Prophet SAW was commanded to go to Taif before he migrated to Medina. The people in Taif humiliate him and made fun of him. They asked the mad people and children to throw stones at him. The Prophet SAW was bleeding and was in a lot of distress; then Angel Jibraeel came to the Prophet SAW with the Angel of the mountains. Angel Jibraeel asked the Prophet SAW if you wish we can crush the people between the mountains. The Prophet SAW said not to crush them because maybe one of their offspring will be a believer. These incidents tell us about the best character of the Prophet SAW that is on top of the good manners. Once a young man (teenager) came to the Prophet SAW and asked him to give him permission to commit adultery. The Prophet SAW did not put him down and did not shout at him. The Prophet SAW asked him if he would allow someone to do this to your sister or your mother. The person said no then the Prophet SAW said then why do you want to do this with anyone s sister or mother. Another incident is that of Isra Wal Mairaaj. On the night journey Allah took him to two journeys, one from Makkah to Jerusalem to pray and then from Jerusalem up to the seventh heavens. Jibraeel went with the Prophet SAW and passed one heaven and the other till the seven heavens. There Jibreal told him he cannot go any further and that Allah only permitted the Prophet SAW to go to Paradise. Allah praised that the eyes of the Prophet SAW that never transgressed. The Prophet SAW was there for a mission; therefore he was not distracted and looking here and there. This tells us about the etiquettes of the Prophet SAW. We cannot find anyone who is like him even a little bit. PAGE 6
Surah Shoora Ayah 52 Allah is telling us that Allah inspired to the Prophet Rooh i.e. soul that is The Quran. The Quran gives us the light and the soul. Without the Quran our heart is dead. Allah is telling that before the inspiration, the Prophet did not have any knowledge about the book and about the faith. The Prophet SAW took his knowledge purely from Allah. This is favor from Allah. This tells us that before knowledge we are ignorant. Allah is telling us that Allah made the Quran as light. The Quran guides and shows us how we need to be in this life. Whomever Allah wills from his servants will be the ones to be guided from the Allah. It depends if we are sincere and truthful. If we really appreciate the Quran and we are sincere, then Allah will teach us. Then Allah tells us that the Prophet SAW guides us to the straight path. We need to behind the Prophet SAW. PAGE 7
Surah Ahzaab Ayah 21 Here Allah is telling us the pre- requisite that we need to have in order the Prophet SAW will be a good example for us. We need to have: 1. Hope in Allah and Day of Judgment 2. Much Remembrance of Allah. The above is key to follow the Prophet SAW. This means the more we remember Allah and the more we have the hope in Allah and Day of Judgment then the more we will follow the Prophet SAW. May the love of Allah and the Prophet SAW increase in our heart. Ameen. PAGE 8
Surah Al Hijr, Ayah 99 In this Ayah we have been given an advise for lifetime. We need to keep worshipping Allah till death comes. While we are alive we do the best we can as Allah created us to worship him. How to guard our faith? Our deeds and our faith are a gift from Allah and we need to guard it by: 1. We should do little but constantly. 2. We should not undo what you did. 3. We should not invent in religion 4. We should do our deeds constantly till the moment of death PAGE 9
Hadith regarding guarding your deeds Hadith 1 With Allah we will never be a loser. Suppose every night a person reads one part of the Quran. And sometimes he missed and he could not read the Quran in the night. Then he does not leaves it and reads it in the morning between Fajr and Zuhr; this way he can catch up what he missed in the night. Allah will write for him the reward as if he read in the night. Hadith 2 Suppose is a person does a certain deed constantly in a day then if he travels or falls sick then Allah will give him the reward of as if he is still doing the deed although in reality he cannot do it because of his travel or sickness. This tells us the vastness of the mercy of Allah. No one is like Allah. Allah appreciates even a small deed. So we need to live this life for Allah. PAGE 10
