Buddhist pilgrimage Tour OVERVIEW Nepal is home to the most important places of pilgrimage in Buddhism. One of these places is Lumbini where Gautam Buddha was born. Other pilgrimage sites of religious significance to the Buddhists are the Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath Stupa, Kapan Monastery and Namo Buddha. Lumbini is the holy site where Buddha was born. In the ruins of ancient Lumbini, we find a sacred tree, the Ashoka pillar, a bathing pond and the Mayadevi temple, where the exact spot of Buddha s birth is located. As of 1997, Lumbini is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Boudhanath stupa is one of the holiest and largest Stupas in the world.in 1979 it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Over 50 Gompas surround this Stupa located in the Eastern part of Kathmandu. Swayambhunath is probably the most sacred site for pilgrimage in Buddhism. It is also known as the Monkey Temple because a number of holy monkeys live in and around the temple premises. The Stupa sits atop a small hill in Kathmandu and is surrounded by small shrines and temples. Namo Buddha is believed to be the place where Lord Buddha had once offered his life to a starving Tigress and her cubs. Namo Buddha which is located 40 kilometers from Kathmandu is also one of the most famous Buddhist pilgrimage in Kathmandu.
ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport. Transfer to Hotel. After your arrival in Kathmandu our representatives at the airport will transfer you to your hotel and help you in checking in. Day 2 Sightseeing in Kathmandu: Boudhanath and Swayambhunath. O/N in Kathmandu. Today we embark on a sightseeing tour around the Kathmandu valley. First we visit the Baudhanath Stupa in Baudha. Over 50 Gompas surround this Stupa located in the Eastern part of Kathmandu.Next we visit the Kapan monastery where we meet a senior Lama and learn about Buddhism and it s practices. Finally we visit the famous Swayambhunath Stupa, probably the most sacred site for pilgrimage in Buddhism. Day 3 Sightseeing in Lumbini. O/N in Lumbini. Today an early morning flight takes us to Lumbini,the birth place of Lord Buddha. Buddha, the son of Maya Devi was born in 623 BC in a sacred garden, whose remains we visit today. Day 4 Sightseeing in Lumbini. O/N in Lumbini. After breakfast, we visit all the major attractions of Lumbini; the Maya Devi Temple, the Ashoka Pillar, the Sacred Garden and the Puskani Pond.
Day 5 Flight Back to Kathmandu, and drive to Namobuddha. O/N in Namobuddha From Lumbini we return to Kathmandu on a scenic flight.
