Service for the Lord s Day 2 nd Sunday after Pentecost 11 th Sunday in Ordinary Time June 18, 2017 9:30 a.m. Prelude Prelude and Fugue in F Major J. S. Bach (Please use the prelude to make the transition from getting here to being here. Open yourself to the Spirit of God moving in our midst.) Words of Welcome Rev. Beth Freese Dammers *Sung Call to Worship 468 (vs. 1, 3) In My Life LORD, BE GLORIFIED *Opening Sentences Kaki Schnieders One: In this place we gather to worship the Holy One, to profess what we believe and name what seems unbelievable. All: Here we support the journey of all who long to grow closer to God. Here we welcome the followers of Jesus Christ. Here we are inspired by the Holy Spirit. And here, all questions are welcome. One: Faith is sometimes messy. Faith grows stronger and faith dims. Sometimes we walk away from faith. All: It is precisely because none of us has it all figured out that we promise to live, serve, work and grow in this faith community. Here, I can lean on you and you on me. Together, with the power of the Holy Spirit, we seek to grow closer to the Three in One.

A Time for our Youngest Disciples (During the singing of the following hymn, children First Grade and younger may go to their Sunday School room with their teachers.) Beth *Hymn 320 (vs. 1-3, 5) The Church of Christ in Every Age WAREHAM Call to Confession (1 John 1:8-9) Kaki If we say we have no sin, the truth is not in us and we deceive ourselves. If we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Prayer of Confession Faithful God, you gift us with peace, yet we still live in fear. We struggle to be your faithful servants in a hurting world that is too easily divided into factions of right and wrong. Forgive our hate and tendency toward easily dismissing anyone believing differently from ourselves. Help us in our unbelief and grant us grace to rest in those places of uncertainty, fully trusting that your faithfulness and presence in our lives is eternal. (A time for silent confession.) And together we pray Open us to live into the mystery of who you are and how you act in the world, Holy One. Lead us into a place of serenity that is surrounded by your grace. We pray in Jesus name, Amen. Assurance of Forgiveness One: God, who loves us, does not abandon or forsake us. Jesus hears and answers when we cry out from the wastelands of sin. The wisdom of the Holy Spirit blesses us always. All: We are forgiven in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, Mother of us all. *Sung Response to Pardon 582 Glory to God, Whose Goodness Shines on Me GLORIA TO GOD (VASILE) *Sharing the Peace of Christ One: As a sign that we are reconciled to God and to one another, let us share the peace of Christ. The Peace of Christ be with you. All: And also with you. (Let us exchange the peace of Christ with our neighbors.) If you are making a special trip at the lunch hour, we encourage you to call first. Thank you for your consideration.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! We have a faithful team of people who come early on Sunday mornings and unlock the church and return in the afternoon to lock up again. This is a valuable service to our staff who can then come in and prepare for worship and Sunday School. More volunteers are needed! With enough team members, the hope is that you would only be called on every 6 to 8 weeks. Please contact Cathy Stahr for more information. INTRODUCING A PROPOSED VISION The Vision, Mission, Strategy (VMS) Task Force is eager to introduce to you a proposed new Vision for CPC. The VMS Task Force has been hard at work discerning God's purpose for CPC for months. They have reviewed the proposed Vision with Session at two separate meetings and with staff. All gatherings will be held in the Sanctuary. Sunday, July 16, 10:45 am Thursday, Aug 10, 7:30 pm Sunday, Aug 27, 10:45 am Session will vote on the VMS on Sept 11.
