It lays out basic principles that all of us who are eligible to vote need to seriously take into consideration as we approach the general election one month from now. You will note that the Conference statement, like church teaching, covers the spectrum of issues affecting human life. It also states, succinctly, just what "conscience" is, as well as basic principles in helping to form a "right conscience." Annual Spiritual Retreat. Friday of this week, October 8th through Friday, October 15th I will be absent from the parish as I make my annual required spiritual retreat. This year I will be making it in conjunction with a group of Benedictine Oblates and will myself formally become an Oblate of Christ the King Priory in Schuyler, Nebraska. Following the weekend retreat with the Oblates, I will then continue with my personal retreat. Retreat is always a time for me to reflect on my vocation to the priesthood and to renew the commitment I made at my ordination as well as to seek forgiveness for my human failings along the way. Please keep me in your prayers during these important days. Know that I will be praying for all of you as well. Father Pat Geary will be here next weekend to cover Confessions and the weekend Masses. - Fr. Catechism of the Catholic Church Part one: Section Two Chapter One - I believe in god the Father Article 1 I Believe in God the Father, Creator of Heaven & Earth Paragraph 6. Man II. "Body and Soul but Truly One" 362 The human person, created in the image of God, is a being at once corporeal and spiritual. The biblical account expresses this reality in symbolic LANGUAGE when it affirms that "then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being."man, whole and entire, is therefore willed by God. 363 In Sacred Scripture the term "soul" often refers to human life or the entire human person But "soul" also refers to the innermost aspect of man, that which is of greatest value in him, that by which he is most especially in God's image: "soul" signifies the spiritual principle in man. Ushers Wanted: Due to career changes and retirements a number of openings are available for ushers. Any confirmed member of the church, man or woman, is eligible. Ushers are assigned to a crew of 5 to 6 ushers who serve at a specific mass time every fourth month. Ushers help people find seats, identify a family to bring up the gifts, and take up the collection. If you are interested contact Marion Kresse at mkresse@isunet.net or call him at 292-7251. You can also talk with an usher at the mass you normally attend to find out more about their duties. Ushers, please ask parishioners who attend the mass you serve to consider becoming an usher. All Saint Cecilia bulletins are available on our website, including those from past years. Father Jim s homilies are posted on the website as well: www.stceciliaparish.org The Melinda Luzcetak & Helen Nelson Families will serve coffee and donuts after the 8:30AM Mass this weekend. The Campbell Family will serve after the 10:30AM Mass. Archbishop Hanus has asked each parish in the Archdiocese to take a count of persons attending Mass for the four weekends in October. This annual gathering of information can help parishes in planning Mass schedules that encourage quality and prayerful celebrations. It will also be helpful in Archdiocesan planning to assure the availability of sacraments, religious education, and active faith communities in light of 4 Stewardship: 27th in Ordinary Time - October 3, 2010 When will I have given enough - of my income, of my time, of my talents? Today s Gospel suggests that only total stewardship will do: When you have done all you have been commanded to do, say We are useless servants. We have done no more than our duty. 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time We just celebrated the feast of the Guardian Angels on Saturday. I suspect most of us didn't even avert to it, since we were busy about other things. Saturday is often the day for yard work, children's sports, household projects, shopping, or other things that we don't have time for during the week. Thinking about guardian angels was likely not one of the top priorities on our agenda. Yet the feast comes and goes each year on October 2 in honor of those spiritual beings who watch over and protect in realms beyond our physical apprehension. Angels worship and serve God, and we have almost no awareness in our daily lives of their presence. The reality of angelic presence is not what is so often portrayed in cartoons as little beings sitting on one's shoulder. Rather, it is the deep understanding of the abiding presence of God: that God cares for each one of us individually and that God's providence protects us. Like the servants in today's Gospel, that go about their business day by day, so do the angels who serve at God's throne. Unknown and unheralded, they do the bidding of the Almighty. In the business world, an angel investor is one who provides the capital for a start-up, giving seed money to get an idea up and running in the real world. There is risk in that, and not every investment realizes a profit. As servants of God on this earth, we are often asked to be angel investors as well, not by turning over money to some entrepreneur in hopes of gaining a profit, but through reaching out to those in need and helping them with our talent and treasure. Much like guardian angels, our good and helpful actions toward others-our care and protection of the least ones-is truly service offered to God. And like the angels, we do it quietly, not seeking recognition, but being faithful servants. 2010 Liturgical Publications Inc Your Financial Stewardship 9-21/27 FYTD Contributions $14,733 $214,783 Needed to meet expenses $20,715 $269,295 Contributions (building) $ 130 $ 15,188 Contact Business Manager, Jerry Greving, for more detailed information or to set up the convenience of automatic withdrawal from Garage Meeting Room Remodel Project update as of 9-27 Forecasted Cost (Revised) $160,000 Funds Collected $90,576 Funds Pledged $29,275 Total Funds Committed $119,851 Balance needed $ 40,149 Please Mark Contributions Garage Remodel The remodeling project is substantially completed.
