Family of North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, and Livingston County, Kentucky 1. James Donakey married Nancy Unknown. Child - probably other children: + 2. John; born April 26, 1755; died Feb. 7, 1818. 2. John Donakey; born April 26, 1755; died Feb. 7, 1818; married Feb. 15, 1797, Celia (Celah) Selivan (born Sept. 11, 1771; died Jan. 27, 1854). The Donakey family Bible record now in the possession of a descendant who lives near Hampton, Livingston County, KY, a photostatic copy of which is n the possession of this compiler, says that John Donakey (born April 26, 1755, died Feb. 7, 1818) was a son of James and Nancy Donakey. The children of John and Celia (Selivan) Donakey as shown in the Bible record are as follows; + 3. John S.; born March 6, 1798; died April 14, 1863. + 4. William D.; born Nov. 2, 1799; died Jan. 9, or 19, 1866. Just below the the of this death in the Bible record is the age at death - 66 years, 2 months and 7 days. + 5. James W.; born May 10, 1801; died July 31, 1881. 6. Thomas W.; born May 17, 1803; died June 15, 1839. 7. Jessa; born Jan. 17, 1805. 8. Moses B.; born July 21, 1806; died Oct. 13, 1835; married May 23, 1833, Martha Kingston. + 9. Elizabeth J. or P.; born Feb. 24, 1808. 10. Celah W.; born April 19, 1810; married May 13, 1834, Holloway Collie. 11. Nancy L.; born Sept. 28, 1812. + 12. Mary Polly P.; born Jan. 31, 1817; died May 4, 1864. From the places of birth of some of the above children as shown in the U. S. Census records, we know that John Donakey was living with his family in North Carolina on March 6, 1798, the date of his son John S. s birth. Sometime between March 6, 1798 and Nov. 2, 1799 the family moved to Tennessee where William D. was born on the latter date. The family moved to what is now Alabama before May 10, 1801 as James W. was born on this date in Alabama. In the alphabetized 1790 census of North Carolina which appears in the North Carolina State Records, Volume 26, page 989, the name of only one Donakey family appears in the entire state, and that is the family of Jas. Donaky who was residing in Rockinham County with his household which consisted of, including himself, three free white males of 16 and up and four free white females. From this it would seem probable that James and Nancy had five children living with them in 1790. 1

Cummins (born Feb. 16, 1806; died Jan. 7, 1834) and they had two children: Eleanor Cummins (born in Tennessee, July 9, 1831; died in Crittenden/Livingston County, KY) and James S. Cummins (born Sept. 11, 1832; died Aug. 21, 1836). James W. Donakey married second, by Rev. A. Rankin, May 29, 1867, Mary E. Elder (died April 28, 1876, aged 64 years and 29 days). 9. Elizabeth J. or P. Donakey; born Feb. 24, 1808; married Dec. 16, 1824, Richard A. Green. Child: 37. Martha Ann; born March 19, 1826. 12. Mary Polly P. Donakey; born Jan. 31, 1817; died May 4, 1864; married first, Nov. 19, 1835, Thomas B. Sills (born July 8, 1814). Children: 38. Anestation; born and died Sept. 20, 1836. 39. Moses T.; born Oct. 25, 1837; died Sept. 9, 1838. Mary Polly P. Donakey married second, a Mr. Burns or Barnes. We know that Mary P. Donakey used the name Polly P. because at time of death of Polly P. her age in years, months and days is given in the Bible record and the birth date thus indicated agrees with the date of birth shown in the Bible for Mary P. Donakey. 29. Andrew Johnson Donakey; born July 29, 1836; married March 1858, Elizabeth Ann Parker (born in Kentucky 1838-1839; daughter of Dempsey Burgess Parker and Lucy Ann [Martin]). Children: 40.
