Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem Autonomous Grand Priory of the United States of America PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY LAND & JORDAN November 30 - December 11, 2015

The Experience of a Lifetime Join us in our 2015 pilgrimage to the Holy Land, to walk in the footsteps of Jesus, to visit Bethlehem, to stand at the Sea of Galilee, to follow the Via Dolorosa, and much more. Come with us to meet some of the wonderful people we support with scholarships and financial aid the true gift of a lifetime. I T I N E R A R Y Day 1 Nov. 30: Depart U.S.A. Our pilgrimage begins as we depart on our overnight flight to Tel Aviv. Day 2 Dec. 1: Arrive Tel Aviv / Jerusalem Upon arrival at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, we will be met by our local guide who will accompany us throughout our stay in the Holy Land and make the scripture come alive. Drive to Jerusalem, our home for the next five nights. (D) Day 3 Dec. 2: Jerusalem This morning we will drive to Ramallah in the West Bank to visit with the Anglican Episcopal Technical Vocational Training Center (Hotel & School) in Ramallah which is supported by SMOTJ. After lunch in Ramallah we will then return to Jerusalem and ascend the Mt. of Olives for a spectacular view of Jerusalem. Visit the Church of Pater Noster, the Chapel of Ascension, and then walk the "Palm Sunday Road" to Dominus Flevit, where Our Lord wept over Jerusalem. Continue to the Garden of Gethsemane to visit the Church of All Nations and the Rock of Agony. (B/D) Day 4 Dec. 3: Jerusalem This morning drive to Bethlehem. Above the traditional Grotto of Jesus' birth, visit the Nativity Church, built by Constantine in the 4th Century. Then tour the Grotto of St. Jerome, the Church of St. Catherine and the Shepherd's Fields. During our visit here, we will have ample time for shopping. While in Bethlehem we will also visit some of the various projects supported by the SMOTJ including Bethlehem University, Holy Family Children s Home, and the Franciscan Family Center. (B/L/D) Day 5 Dec. 4: Jerusalem This morning view the Temple Area of the Old City featuring the beautiful Dome of the Rock, Mosque Al Aqsa, and the Western Wall. Then enter the Old City of Jerusalem. Visit the Church of St. Anne, the Pool of Bethesda, the Chapel of Flagellation, Lithostrotos, and the Arch of the "Ecce Homo". Follow the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to visit Golgotha and the Tomb of Our Lord. Later in the afternoon we will go to Mt. Zion to visit the Cenacle or Upper room. Then survey King David's Tomb, the Dormition Abbey, and St. Peter in Gallicantu where Peter denied Jesus three times. (B/D) Day 6 Dec. 5: Jerusalem This morning we will drive to Bethany to visit the site of the House of Mary, Martha and Lazarus, where we'll also see the Tomb of Lazarus. While there see the Russian Orthodox School for Girls, Sr. Martha and many of her students whom we support. Then drive along the shores of the Dead Sea to Qumran to see the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Continue on to Masada where we ll take a cable car up to this isolated hilltop fortress, where from 70 73 AD, Jewish defenders made the last stand of the Judean revolt against Rome. Return to Jerusalem and then later in the evening we will enjoy a Farewell Jerusalem Middle Eastern dinner which will be attended by members of the local chapter of the SMOTJ. (B/D) Day 7 Dec. 6: Jerusalem / Petra Drive to the Allenby Bridge and cross into the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Visit the traditional Baptismal Site on the Jordan River where we will have an opportunity to renew our baptismal vows followed by a brief Sunday prayer service at the Baptismal Chapel of the ELCHLJ. Then travel south to Mount Nebo where Moses first viewed the promised land. Continue on to Madaba, a Byzantine center of master mosaics, to see the oldest surviving map of the Holy Land. Then proceed to Petra, one of the most magnificent sites in the Middle East. (B/D) Day 8 Dec. 7: Petra / Amman This morning will be spent exploring the Rose Red City of Petra which is literally carved into the sides of a deep gorge. The only entrance is through the Siq, a narrow slit in the rock

enclosed by beautiful limestone cliffs. Riding on horseback (no riding experience required) between the 100 foot cliffs we will see a remarkable sight: temples, tombs, and dwellings chiseled right into the limestone walls. Following our sightseeing of Petra, drive to Amman, the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. (B/D) Day 9 Dec. 8: Amman / Tiberias Amman is a city of wide streets, modern shops and spacious villas dotting the hills all signs of growth; yet the entire area reflects a bygone civilization. This morning's drive around the city takes us to the impressive Roman Amphitheater which once accommodated 6,000 spectators. Looking across the horizon, it's possible to see the hilltop citadel that contains an Arabian castle. Drive north to Jerash which was founded by the soldiers of Alexander the Great in 300 B.C. Jerash now stands as the most complete and best preserved ruins of a provincial Greco Roman city in the world. Along a 2 mile stretch we ll see the oval shaped forum encircled by 56 graceful Roman columns, Hadrian s Arch, the Temples of Artemis and Zeus, and the massive Roman theater. Continue to the Sheikh Hussein Bridge and cross into Israel. Transfer to our hotel in Tiberias. (B/D) Day 10 Dec. 9: Tiberias Enjoy a scenic boat ride across the Sea of Galilee. Then visit Capernaum, home of Our Lord during his ministry. After visiting the Synagogue where he taught, drive to Tabgha the site of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes. The Church of St. Peter s Primacy will be our next stop, followed by a visit to the Mt. of the Beatitudes which is the site of the Sermon on the Mount. Then drive to Cana of Galilee, where Our Lord performed the first miracle changing water into wine at the wedding feast. (B/D) Day 11 Dec. 10: Tiberias / Tel Aviv Following breakfast drive to Nazareth to visit the Basilica of the Annunciation. Continue on to Acre whose history dates back almost 4,000 years and which played a pivotal role during the Crusader period. Experience the medieval atmosphere and descend into the subterranean city to visit the fortress of the Hospitallers, the Order of the Knights of St. John. Visit the large halls and imagine the pilgrims, the knights, and the Crusaders dining, celebrating, and running the markets there hundreds of years ago. Return to surface and explore the Ottoman phase of Acre. We will then drive south along the shores of the Mediterranean to Caesarea, the capital of the ancient Roman Procurators of Judea, where we will see the Roman Theater, Crusader's Moat, and the Byzantine Churches. Proceed to Tel Aviv where we will have our farewell dinner at a local restaurant and then transfer to the airport for our late evening return flight home. (B/D) Day 12 Dec. 11: Tel Aviv / U.S.A.
