Detroit Street, Los Angeles, CA 90036 Telephone (323) 930-5976 Fax (323) 297-7677 Email: parish@cathedralchapel.org Website: www.cathedralchapel.org Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him, You are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me. At that statement his face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions (Mk. 9). Dear Parishioners and Visitors: Every year, during the Fall season, our parish would begin a CCSV stewardship program as our parish ministries are beginning for the year. The stewardship program is a great way to encourage all of us as People of faith to exercise our bap smal commitment and par cipate in the life of the local church. The Gospel of Mark this weekend is fi ng for us to reflect on our calling, God s gi s to us, and the sharing of our possessions with others. This is the second year, that members of the finance council and the parish staff generate our parish s annual report. They have been instrumental in analyzing the report for you to review. P.U.T.T. (Purpose; Update; Though ul; Thankful) a term from golf is the acronym we hope that will help you to understand our calling as God s children and our invita on to you to be God s good stewards here on earth. There are three main objec ves of CCSV stewardship program. The Parish Annual Financial Report for 2014-2015 As you review the annual report, you will no ce that our Sunday collec on has diminished more than $25K dollars and our total income was lower by $73K comparing to the last fiscal year report. For any for profit or non-profit company, this decrease in the annual income could put them in a major financial difficul es, if not to a point of bankruptcy or foreclosure. Our expenses were higher than last year for two major reasons: a) our generous charitable gi to St. Patrick Church located in the poorest area of Los Angeles of $25K which was designated and approved by the finance council 5 years ago. b) Our building renova on was $30K more than last year because of the improvements done in the south parking lot (for security) and needed renova ons in the parish office. Sunday Offerings and Dona ons to our Church (Tithing) P.U.T.T. is vitally important for all of us as a church to reflect upon God s gi and what God has done for us in our life. The Gospel verse above is a great reminder of our rela onship with God. I encourage you to pray and reflect on our annual report and your family income. Par cipa on in Parish s Ministries with Time & Talents We are One Body of Christ, One Church, and One Mission! PUTT (Parishioners-Unite-Time- Talents) is essen al in promo ng unity and evangeliza on of the faith in our parish to all members who come to our church seeking for guidance and support. This is our house. We are here to serve one another. I am grateful to the thousands of hours that a small number of parishioners volunteered and donated to our church because of their me and talents, commitment and service to God. Together we are not all alone; we are One because of Christ. Our par cipa on and our combined effort will make our sacrifice less heavy and burdensome. Please take this Sunday s and the coming weeks bulle n home with you a er each mass and reflect upon the figures and charts. I pray that you will respond favorably and par cipate in this year s 2015 Stewardship Program. May our Lord bless you and your family always. Be informed in the faith; Be interested in the Church; and be involved in the our parish s ministries.

2015-2016 STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM Purpose Updated Thoughtful Thankful Each year we renew our commitment to help our beloved parish by way of sharing our time, talents and treasures with each other and within our community. We repeat our theme from last year with the acronym PUTT. Many love the game of golf and to become really good at it requires practice. To PUTT on the green is one aspect of golf that requires thought, planning, a sharp eye, and using just the right amount of strength. We are using PUTT as an acronym to easily remind us of the character of our church offerings. WEEK OF OCT. 11-17, 2015 SAINTS, SPECIAL OBSERVANCES, MASS INTENTIONS AND PARISH EVENTS SUNDAY, OCT. 11: 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time: Na onal Children s Day 8:00 Manuel Agner 10:00 Rudy Thomas; 7th Grade School Mass 12:00 For All Our Parishioners 1:00p *Confession MONDAY, OCT. 12: Columbus Day 9:00 For the Souls in Purgatory 7:00p RCIA (Parish Office) TUESDAY, OCT. 13 9:00 Emmanuel Salazar Can we see the purpose of our church offering as helping fulfill the work, care, and love of God? Essential are the maintenance and beautification of the church, distribution of the Eucharist and teaching materials, housing for our pastor, operation of the parish office that coordinate various activities to allow the parish community to assemble, be edified, and, most importantly to spread the Gospel. Is our offering updated with the times? Using the Consumer Price Index, we can see that purchasing power has gone down over time. A gallon of milk gallon in 2004 was $2.88, but now $3.67. A pound of white bread in 2004 was 95 cents, but now $1.44. Electricity per KWH in 2004 was.09 cents, but now.14 cents. When we do not regularly increase our financial offering year, we are really reducing our offering. Is our church offering thoughtful much like a gift we would give to a loved one? Nowadays, gift cards are in increments that represent a tangible value, such as a $5 cup of coffee, a $15 pair of movie tickets, or a $50 restaurant gift card. There are no $1 gift cards. Like giftgiving, do we spend careful attention (time & thought) into the offering we place inside our envelopes? Finally, is our church offering a reflection of being thankful? The fact that all good things come from God - family, job, annual pay increases, oxygen, all material things, and life itself should prompt us to be grateful and generous to our loving and gracious God.
