TORAH, GOD'S INSTRUCTIONS EXODUS 7 - PLAGUE OF BLOOD, EXODUS 8 - PLAGUE OF FROGS, LICE, FLIES, EXODUS 9 - PLAGUE OF MURRAIN/PESTILENCE, BOILS AND HAIL Say - Welcome to Sabbath School class. Let's bow our head and ask God for understanding as we continue our study of the book of Exodus. We will begin to go over a few of the plagues which God brought upon Egypt and were aimed at their gods which were not gods. Again we will study how God is working out all the details of this great story for His people. Exodus 7 Say - The Egyptians had many animal gods of which the bull was the most sacred. This was the religion of the Egyptians of whom the Hebrew Nation lived and we will learn they picked up many of their customs. In Chapter seven the first plague is revealed. 1And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh ("Made thee a god to Pharaoh" means one appointed by God.): and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet (You Moses and Aaron are going to be a type of God to the Israelites and you are to say and do as I tell you; it will not be manmade speech.). 2Thou shalt speak all that I command thee (not of his own opinion but God's only): and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land. 3 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt. 4But Pharaoh shall not hearken (listen) unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies (my people), and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments ("Judgments" means punishments which were to fall upon the land of Egypt and would show the True God of Israel. Moses begins to understand the plan of God for His people.). 5 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them ("I am the LORD" is repeated throughout these chapters many times. Both Israel and Egypt, by the great experience of the plagues and this will also be in the Great Tribulation described in Revelation, will come to know the power of the true God over all other gods for there is only ONE God.).

6 And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they (total obedience to God). 7 And Moses was fourscore years old (80 years old), and Aaron fourscore and three years old (83 years old), when they spake unto Pharaoh. 8And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, 9 When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent (It is important to realize the Egyptians in higher ranks also carried "rods". The serpent was a major god of the Egyptians.) 10 And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent. 11Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers (under the influence of Satan): now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments (Two of these "magicians" are named for us in 2 timothy 3:8 which says, " 8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith").. 12For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods (This inflicted the first blow on the god's of Egypt and was something they had never seen in their lives.). 13 And he hardened Pharaoh's heart, that he hearkened (listened) not unto them; as the LORD had said (Pharaoh is very rebellious and stubborn which the Bible says is as "the sin of witchcraft, iniquity or lawlessness and idolatry" I Samuel 15:23). 14And the LORD said unto Moses, Pharaoh's heart is hardened, he refuseth to let the people go. Say - Below is the First plague upon the land of Egypt as the water turns to Blood. The Nile River was a god to Egypt we will see below. 15Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water (of the Nile River); and thou shalt stand by the river's brink against he come; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand (The Land of Goshen where the Israelites lived was very near to Pharaoh's palace.). 16And thou shalt say unto him, The LORD (Elohim - Jesus Christ) God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my people go (God's people), that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear.

17 Thus saith the LORD, In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood (The "rod" was Moses' instrument from God.). 18And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall stink; and the Egyptians shall lothe (be grieved) to drink of the water of the river (The Egyptians had fish gods and the fish supplied a lot of food for the people; now not only will Pharaoh and the people suffer but the land of Egypt as well. In the following verse we will see how far this punishment or plague spread from the Nile River.). 19And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams (canals), upon their rivers (the seven streams of the delta), and upon their ponds (lakes where reeds grew), and upon all their pools (reservoirs) of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone (The Israelites will suffer through a few of these plagues and in the tribulation we will also suffer so we should prepare for it to happen and not be surprised for worshipping the true God.). 20And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood (The first plague was against the Nile River which was an object of worship to the Egyptians and now it became polluted, read below. In the Bible it tells us " 12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night,... and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment (punishment): I am the LORD" Exodus 12:12.). The Nile was an important part of the ancient Egyptian spiritual life. The god named Hapy was the deification of the annual floods, and both he and the pharaoh were thought to control the flooding of the Nile. The Nile was considered to be a causeway from life to death and the afterlife. The east was thought of as a place of birth and growth, and the west was considered the place of death, as the god Ra, the Sun, underwent birth, death, and resurrection each day as he crossed the sky. Thus, all tombs were located west of the Nile, because the Egyptians believed that in order to enter the afterlife, they must be buried on the side that symbolized death. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/nile 21 And the fish that was in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt. 22 And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, neither did he hearken unto them; as the LORD had said. 23And Pharaoh turned and went into his house, neither did he set his heart to this also. 24 And all the Egyptians digged round about the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river. 25 And seven days were fulfilled, after that the LORD had smitten the river.

Exodus 8 Say - Now we will read of the Second Plague - Frogs. We will see again the plagues God sent on Egypt were on the animal gods of Egypt, Exodus 12:12. 1And the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me (Some of the people did not know they were idol worshippers. Unfortunately in the land of Goshen, some of God's people were idol worshippers also. We must not fall for the temptations of Babylon in our world today but remain true to God.). 2 And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs (The Egyptians worshipped a frog goddess called "Heqet" or "Hekit"a symbol of fertility. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/heqet): 3And the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into thine house, and into thy bedchamber, and upon thy bed, and into the house of thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thine ovens, and into thy kneadingtroughs: 4 And the frogs shall come up both on thee, and upon thy people, and upon all thy servants. 5And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch forth thine hand with thy rod over the streams, over the rivers, and over the ponds, and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt. 6 And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt. 7 And the magicians did so with their enchantments, and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt (The "magicians" did this all with the power of Satan and His demons and God allowed it and He will also at the end of time in the tribulation the Bible tells us. So we must study to know the difference between God and Satan or we could fall for the wrong thing.). 8Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Intreat the LORD, that he may take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may do sacrifice unto the LORD. 9And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Glory over me: when shall I intreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses, that they may remain in the river only? 10 And he said, To morrow. And he said, Be it according to thy word: that thou mayest know that there is none like unto the LORD our God (Elohim, Jesus Christ). 11 And the frogs shall depart from thee, and from thy houses, and from thy servants, and from thy people; they shall remain in the river only.

12 And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh: and Moses cried unto the LORD because of the frogs which he had brought against Pharaoh. 13 And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and the frogs died out of the houses, out of the villages, and out of the fields. 14And they gathered them together upon heaps: and the land stank (Still had to suffer after the punishment because the "land stank"). 15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite (relief), he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said. Say - The Third Plague begins as the "dust of the earth became Lice on man and beast". 16 And the LORD said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt ("lice" in Egypt is like mosquitoes or gnats). 17 And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt. 18 And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast (God allowed the "magicians" to produce a serpent only to show the limits of their power and in contrast showed His power was unlimited. They could not "bring forth lice" because God said no more for there is a deity which is stronger than these gods which are not gods at all.). 19 Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said (The Pharaoh is too proud to admit it is the "finger of God" and the more proud we are the more difficult it is for repentance for we become so arrogant and trust in ourselves rather than God.). Say - Now the Fourth Plague comes which were Swarms of flies upon everything in the land. Now the land of the Israelites, the Land of Goshen, would not receive the rest of the plagues upon Egypt, vs. 22. This plague was a severe blow to the idol worshippers for this was against the false god Beelzebub, the "Lord of flies" and this would show he was not really a god at all. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/beelzebub. 20And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; lo, he cometh forth to the water; and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me (instead of your idols).

21 Else, if thou wilt not let my people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies upon thee, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thy houses: and the houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground whereon they are (The Bible tells us God sent "divers sorts of flies among them which devoured them..." Psalm 78:45. One of the gods of Egypt was for the dung beetle called "khepri", http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/khepri). 22 And I will sever in that day the land of Goshen, in which my people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there; to the end thou mayest know that I am the LORD in the midst of the earth (Now God would protect His people in the land of Goshen; they would not receive the plagues placed on Egypt; this is redemption or salvation for His people. The Bible tells us " 9 He sent redemption (liberation/salvation) unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name. Psalm 111:9. Also read and remember we are part of the Nation of Israel, " 7 Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption (liberation/salvation)" Psalm 130:7.). 23And I will put a division between my people and thy people: to morrow shall this sign be. 24 And the LORD did so; and there came a grievous swarm of flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants' houses, and into all the land of Egypt: the land was corrupted by reason of the swarm of flies. 25 And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said, Go ye, sacrifice to your God in the land. 26And Moses said, It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God: lo, shall we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and will they not stone us? (Sacrificing cattle was an "abomination" to the Egyptians because that was a god to them.) 27 We will go three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to the LORD our God, as he shall command us. 28And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away: intreat for me (Pharaoh is giving in a little bit but God wants all of us sincerely.). 29And Moses said, Behold, I go out from thee, and I will intreat the LORD that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, to morrow: but let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD. 30And Moses went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the LORD. 31And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and he removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people; there remained not one. 32 And Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also, neither would he let the people go (See how the demons moved into Pharaoh's heart and God allowed it.).

Exodus 9 Say - Now the Fifth plague - Murrain or a Pestilence among cattle was aimed at all animal worship, Exodus 12:12. 1Then the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me. 2 For if thou refuse to let them go, and wilt hold them still (in captivity), 3Behold, the hand of the LORD is upon thy cattle (remember the "bull" was the Egyptians chief god) which is in the field, upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the sheep: there shall be a very grievous murrain (pestilence). 4 And the LORD shall sever between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt: and there shall nothing die of all that is the children's of Israel. 5And the LORD appointed a set time, saying, To morrow the LORD shall do this thing in the land (Notice how this plague is not done by Aaron's "rod" but by the very "hand of God".). 6And the LORD did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one (The word "all" in this verse is not literal for if we read 19-21 below, there were some animals left alive.). 7And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not one of the cattle of the Israelites dead. And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened (filled with pride), and he did not let the people go. Say - Now the Sixth Plague comes - Boils 8 And the LORD said unto Moses and unto Aaron, Take to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses sprinkle it toward the heaven in the sight of Pharaoh. 9And it shall become small dust in all the land of Egypt, and shall be a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast, throughout all the land of Egypt (Now God begins to affect the people of Egypt with boils upon their bodies.). 10And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast (The "ashes of the furnace" was from one of the altars of which were done human sacrifices offered to their god Typhon.). 11 And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boil was upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians. 12And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken unto Moses.

13 And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me. 14 For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart (upon you), and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth (and it is still the same today). 15For now I will stretch out my hand, that I may smite thee and thy people with pestilence; and thou shalt be cut off from the earth. 16And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up (preserved thee through all the plagues until the end), for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth (This is what the world will come to know in the tribulation that the world's gods are not gods at all for there is only ONE GOD.). 17As yet exaltest thou thyself against my people, that thou wilt not let them go? Say - Now the Seventh Plague comes - Hail 18Behold, to morrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until now (The "hail" was against the gods Isis (goddess of motherhood, magic and fertility) and Osiris (the god of afterlife), Exodus 12:12, and would wipe out much of the food supply.). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/osiris http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/isis 19Send therefore now, and gather thy cattle, and all that thou hast in the field; for upon every man and beast which shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die. 20He that feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses (Some Egyptians turned to God for there was a "mixed multitude" which came out of Egypt the Bible tells us, Exodus 12:38.): 21And he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattle in the field. 22 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt. 23 And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt (As we know, it hardly ever rained or hailed in Egypt.).

24 So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail (catching hold of the "hail" like in a chain), very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. 25And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and brake every tree of the field. 26Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail (There were probably many Egyptians which fled to Goshen.). 27And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have sinned this time (This is a major submission by the Pharaoh.): the LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked (wicked ones). 28 Intreat the LORD (for it is enough) that there be no more mighty thunderings (voices of Elohim) and hail; and I will let you go, and ye shall stay no longer. 29 And Moses said unto him, As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands unto the LORD; and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that thou mayest know how that the earth is the LORD's. 30But as for thee and thy servants, I know that ye will not yet fear the LORD God (He is not sincere yet.). 31 And the flax and the barley was smitten: for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was bolled ("bolled" means swelled or ripened or blossomed). 32 But the wheat and the rie were not smitten (Shows God's mercy for there was not total destruction of the food supply.): for they were not grown up. 33And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands unto the LORD: and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth. 34And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants. 35 And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, neither would he let the children of Israel go; as the LORD had spoken by Moses. Say - Pharaoh did not want to lose all of his slave labor for the Israelites had been a big part of the rise to power for Egypt. MEMORY VERSE For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart (upon you), and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth (and it is still the same today). EXODUS 9:14 BELOW IS THE SABBATH SCHOOL LESSON FOR TOTS AND YOUTH

I AM THE LORD "THE LORD GOD OF THE HEBREWS HATH SENT ME UNTO YOU, PHARAOH; LET MY PEOPLE GO" SAID MOSES ONE MORE TIME, "THAT THEY MAY SERVE GOD IN THE WILDERNESS"; THE LORD HAS SAID, "IN THIS HE SHALL KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD FOR I WILL SMITE WITH THE ROD THAT IS IN MINE HAND UPON THE WATERS WHICH ARE IN THE NILE RIVER, AND THEY SHALL BE TURNED TO BLOOD". THE NILE RIVER WAS A GOD TO THE EGYPTIANS AND SOON THE FIRST PLAGUE BEGAN TO FALL UPON THE NILE RIVER AND THE WATERS TURNED TO BLOOD; BUT PHARAOH SAID "NO, I'LL NOT LET THE PEOPLE GO" AND THE FISH BEGAN TO DIE AND THE LAND BEGIN TO STINK AND THERE WAS NO WATER SAFE ENOUGH TO DRINK. STILL PHARAOH REFUSED TO FREE THE ISRAELITE SLAVES AND THE SECOND PLAGUE BEGAN TO FALL; "THE RIVER WILL BRING FORTH FROGS AND THEY WILL BE IN YOUR HOUSE"; "THE FROGS WILL BE UPON YOUR BED, IN YOUR OVENS AND KNEADINGTROUGHS. FROGS WILL BE UPON ALL THE PEOPLE AND ON ALL OF YOUR SERVANTS." PHARAOH'S HEART WAS HARDENED; HE WOULD NOT LET THE PEOPLE GO AND THE THIRD PLAGUE BEGAN TO FALL UPON THE EGYPT LAND; "STRETCH OUT THEY ROD", GOD SAID, "AND SMITE THE DUST OF THE LAND" AND IT BECAME LICE IN MAN AND BEAST THROUGHOUT EGYPTLAND. GOD TOLD MOSES, "RISE UP EARLY IN THE MORNING AND STAND BEFORE PHARAOH AND SAY, LET MY PEOPLE GO THAT THEY MAY SERVE ME"; IF HE WILL NOT LET MY PEOPLE GO, "I WILL SEND SWARMS OF FLIES UPON HIM, HIS SERVANTS AND THE FLIES WILL BE IN ALL THE HOUSES IN THE LAND AND UPON THE GROUND".

BUT FOR MY PEOPLE, NOT A FLY SHALL THERE BE UPON THEM THAT THEY MAY KNOW I AM THE LORD IN THE MIDST OF THE EARTH FOR I WILL SAVE THEM FROM THIS PLAGUE; LET ISRAEL HOPE IN GOD FOR WITH HIM IS MERCY AND SALVATION AND HOLY AND REVEREND IS HIS NAME AND MY COVENANT OR PROMISE IS FOREVER. STILL PHARAOH'S HEART WAS HARDENED; HE WOULD NOT LET THE PEOPLE GO AND UPON HIM AND EGYPT THE FIFTH PLAGUE BEGAN TO FALL; NOW THE "HAND OF GOD WOULD BE UPON HIS CATTLE, HORSES, DONKEYS, CAMELS, OXEN AND UPON THE SHEEP FOR A GREAT PESTILENCE WOULD FALL AND MOST WOULD DIE". AS EACH GLOOMY PLAGUE DID ON EGYPT DESCEND, THE PHARAOH HARDENED HIS HEART AND WOULD NOT BEND. IMAGINARY WERE PHARAOH'S GODS AND POWERLESS TOO; TO THE TRUE GOD, PHARAOH WOULD NOT ADMIT, OH WHAT A FOOL!! GOD SAID TO MOSES AND AARON, "TAKE HANDFULS OF ASHES AND SPRINKLE THEM TOWARDS HEAVEN IN THE SIGHT OF PHARAOH AND THE ASHES WILL BECOME BOILS UPON EVERY MAN AND BEAST"; PHARAOH'S MAGICIANS AND ALL THE EGYPTIANS COULD NOT STAND BEFORE MOSES BECAUSE OF THE BOILS; BUT PHARAOH WOULD NOT LET THE PEOPLE GO. NOW THE SEVENTH PLAGUE WOULD FALL AS THE LIGHTENING FLASHED, THE THUNDER ROLLED AND THE HAIL IT CAME A POUNDING; BROKE WERE THE TREES AS THE HAIL COVERED THE LAND AND PHARAOH WOULD NOT YIELD NOR FALL TO GOD UPON HIS KNEES. SOON PHARAOH WOULD LEARN "THERE IS NONE LIKE GOD IN ALL THE EARTH" AND IT IS THE SAME TODAY FOR SOON THE ENTIRE WORLD WILL LEARN THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUE GOD, THE GOD OF ISRAEL! BY B. R. B.
