TORAH, GOD'S INSTRUCTIONS DEUTERONOMY 9 DON T FORGET THE MERCIES OF GOD DEUTERONOMY 10 FEAR GOD AND OBEY GOD Deuteronomy 9 Say Remember the mercies of God. Moses told the 12 tribes of Israel don t praise yourself for this but to the righteousness of God. In verses 1-3 God will destroy the Anakims which were giants. 1 Hear, O Israel: Thou art to pass over Jordan this day, to go in to possess (You are the rightful owner of the land of Canaan, the Promised Land.) nations greater and mightier than thyself, cities great and fenced up to heaven, 2 A people great and tall, the children of the Anakims, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the children of Anak! (The Anakims who were giants frightened the Israelites spies, Numbers 13:28, but so what if God is with you.) 3 Understand therefore this day, that the LORD thy God is he which goeth over before thee; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD hath said unto thee. (The Bible tells us 52 But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock. (God s firstfruits) 53 And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies. 54 And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased (By God s power.). 55 He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents. 57 But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow. 58 For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images (Went into idolatry.). 59 When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel: Psalm 78:52-59) 4 Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, (The Israelites were not to say) For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee. 5 Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee, (Why) and that he may perform the word which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. (We must not glory in ourselves for it is God who leads us to the land of Canaan, the Promised Land; and we are not to boast that it is through our righteousness that God leads us to the Kingdom of God. What was the purpose of the nation of Israel; that they would be an example to bring the nations to God but haven t learned it yet.)

6 Understand therefore, that the LORD thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked people (The Israelites wanted to do their own thing.). Say Moses reminds them of their rebellion. Read vs. 24. 7 Remember, and forget not, how thou provokedst the LORD thy God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have been rebellious against the LORD. (This is what Israel was all about. In Romans Paul says 19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law (Good things happen when we are under the law with obedience.): that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. (Why? Because we have all sinned; so repent and come back and obey God.) 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin (No matter how much one does the Law; they will still sin so the world just says do away with the Law of God. Romans 3:19-20) 8 Also in Horeb ye provoked the LORD to wrath, so that the LORD was angry with you to have destroyed you. (The Bible tells us 7 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves: 8 They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it (this was on their honeymoon), and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt (They worshipped the works of their hands). Exodus 32:7-8) 19 They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image. 20 Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass. 21 They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt; 22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea. 23 Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them. 24 Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word: 25 But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD. Psalm 106:19-25. The Israelites said the cow brought us out from Egypt; the Israelites were not to worship images for it was idolatry and neither are we as God s people. The Israelites had broken the covenant with God. Read vs. 16. ) 9 When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water: (The Israelites were totally clean before receiving the Law of God; the people were a witness to the other nations and they heard God directly and it was the Law was written with His finger.) 10 And the LORD delivered unto me two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them was written according to all the words, which the LORD spake with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.

11 And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the LORD gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant. 12 And the LORD said unto me, Arise, get thee down quickly from hence; for thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they are quickly turned aside out of the way which I (Jesus Christ) commanded them; they have made them a molten image. 13 Furthermore the LORD spake unto me, saying, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people: 14 Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven: and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they. 15 So I (Moses) turned and came down from the mount, and the mount burned with fire: and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands. 16 And I looked, and, behold, ye had sinned against the LORD your God, and had made you a molten calf: ye had turned aside quickly out of the way which the LORD had commanded you. 17 And I took the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and brake them before your eyes. 18 And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. (Christ fasted for us and our sins and so did Moses; we should learn to be like Moses, pray and fast for others.) 19 For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, wherewith the LORD was wroth against you to destroy you. But the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also. 20 And the LORD was very angry with Aaron to have destroyed him: and I prayed for Aaron also the same time. 21 And I took your sin, the calf which ye had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, and ground it very small, even until it was as small as dust: and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that descended out of the mount. 22 And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibrothhattaavah, ye provoked the LORD to wrath. 23 Likewise when the LORD sent you from Kadeshbarnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then ye rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and ye believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice. 24 Ye have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you. 25 Thus I fell down before the LORD forty days and forty nights, as I fell down at the first; because the LORD had said he would destroy you.

(Moses said) 26 I prayed therefore unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, destroy not thy people and thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 27 Remember thy servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; look not unto the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin: 28 Lest the land whence thou broughtest us out say, Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he hated them, he hath brought them out to slay them in the wilderness. 29 Yet they are thy people and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest out by thy mighty power and by thy stretched out arm. Deuteronomy 10 Say Fear God and be more obedient to God. In verses 1-5 is the renewing of the tables of the covenant. 1 At that time the LORD said unto me, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first, and come up unto me into the mount, and make thee an ark of wood. 2 And I will write on the tables the words that were in the first tables which thou brakest, and thou shalt put them in the ark. 3 And I made an ark of shittim wood, and hewed two tables of stone like unto the first, and went up into the mount, having the two tables in mine hand. 4 And he wrote on the tables, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which the LORD spake unto you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly: and the LORD gave them unto me. 5 And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they be, as the LORD commanded me. (The Bible tells us 13 Hold fast the form of sound words (sound doctrine, found only in the word of God) which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 14 That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost (spirit) which dwelleth in us 2 Timothy 1:13-14). 6 And the children of Israel took their journey from Beeroth of the children of Jaakan to Mosera: there Aaron died, and there he was buried; and Eleazar his son ministered in the priest's office in his stead. 7 From thence they journeyed unto Gudgodah; and from Gudgodah to Jotbath, a land of rivers of waters. Say God chose the tribe of Levi to bear the ark of the covenant of the LORD.

8 At that time the LORD separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, unto this day. 9 Wherefore Levi hath no part nor inheritance with his brethren; the LORD is his inheritance, according as the LORD thy God promised him. Say God accepted the intercession for the Israelites from Moses. 10 And I stayed in the mount, according to the first time, forty days and forty nights; and the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also, and the LORD would not destroy thee. 11 And the LORD said unto me, Arise, take thy journey before the people, that they may go in and possess the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give unto them. Say - Obey God 12 And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways (The name of God s religion.), and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul (life), (Can t do it when you do your own thing which is part truth and part error. Paul said, Yea doubtless, and I count all things loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord (Paul gave up position for Christ.); for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them dung, that I may win (gain) Christ Philippians 3:8.) 13 To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good? (Circumcision of the heart; see vs. 16.) 14 Behold, the heaven (where the birds fly) and the heaven of heavens (where God is) is the LORD's thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is. 15 Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers to love them (Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; no one else seed), and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people, as it is this day. 16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked. 17 For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward: 18 He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment. 19 Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. (Don t have a hardened heart before them.)

20 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name. 21 He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen. 22 Thy fathers went down into Egypt with threescore and ten persons; and now the LORD thy God hath made thee as the stars of heaven for multitude. MEMORY VERSE For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward. Deuteronomy 10:17 BELOW IS THE SABBATH SCHOOL LESSON FOR TOTS

ISRAEL AND NOW, ISRAEL, WHAT DOTH THE LORD THY GOD REQUIRE OF THEE, BUT TO FEAR THE LORD THY GOD, TO WALK IN ALL HIS WAYS, AND TO LOVE HIM, AND TO SERVE THE LORD THY GOD WITH ALL THY HEART AND WITH ALL THY SOUL (LIFE). TO KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS OF THE LORD, AND HIS STATUTES, WHICH I COMMAND THEE THIS DAY FOR THY GOOD? BEHOLD, THE HEAVEN (where the birds fly) AND THE HEAVEN OF HEAVENS (where God is) IS THE LORD S THY GOD, THE EARTH ALSO, WITH ALL THAT THEREIN IS. CIRCUMCISE THERERFORE THE FORESKIN OF YOUR HEART, AND BE NO MORE STIFFNECKED. (Circumcise means instituted by God of the covenant of Abraham and He would be their God and they would be His people and obey Him.) FOR THE LORD YOUR GOD IS GOD OF gods, AND THE LORD OF LORDS, A GREAT GOD, A MIGHTY, AND A TERRIBLE, WHICH REGARDETH NOT PERSONS, NOR TAKETH REWARD: HE DOTH EXECUTE THE JUDGMENT OF THE FATHERLESS AND WIDOW, AND LOVETH THE STRANGER, IN GIVING HIM FOOD AND RAIMENT. LOVE YE THEREFORE THE STRANGER: FOR YE WERE STRANGERES IN THE LAND OF EGYPT. (Don t have a hardened heart before them.) THOU SHALT FEAR THE LORD THY GOD; HIM SHALT THOU SERVE, AND TO HIM SHALT THOU CLEAVE, AND SWEAR BY HIS NAME. HE IS THY PRAISE, AND HE IS THY GOD, THAT HATH DONE FOR THEE THESE GREAT AND TERRIBLE THINGS, WHICH THINE EYES HAVE SEEN. THY FATHERS WENT DOWN INTO EGYPT WITH THREESCORE AND TEN PERSONS; AND NOW THE LORD THY GOD HATH MADE THEE AS THE STARS OF HEAVEN FOR MULTITUDE. DEUTERONOMY 10:12-22
