The word wisdom is scattered throughout the Bible. Unlike the world s understanding, which limits wisdom to an intellectual pursuit meant solely to increase an individual s social standing, God s Word tells us that true wisdom wisdom that comes from God is complex and serves a purpose within His Kingdom. James 3:17, tells us that godly wisdom is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, [and] impartial and sincere. In other words, godly wisdom is critical in showing godly love. Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become fools so that you may become wise. 1 Corinthians 3:18 Our flesh and Satan work hard to drive us away from godly wisdom, but we must be vigilant. Every day, multiple times a day, we must remind ourselves that God alone is the source of true wisdom, and that His wisdom serves an eternal purpose. That is the reason for this packet. Use it as an aide in learning more about godly wisdom, memorizing Scripture, and finding how to... Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

SCRIPTURE MEDITATION Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom... Strong s Exhaustive Concordance tells us that the original Hebrew word that we see here as fear is yir ah, which means fear, respect, reverence. How does having a respect for God begin our journey toward wisdom?... and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Again looking to Strong s Exhaustive Concordance, we learn that the word translated as understanding (biynah), means to have discernment (an ability to judge well). How does knowing God help us discern right from wrong?

SCRIPTURE MEDITATION Proverbs 19:20 Listen to advice... There is a distinct difference between simply hearing someone s words and actually listening to them. What do you think that difference is?... and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise. Most of us rebel whenever someone tries to correct (discipline) our actions or words. Why does God s Word tell us that accepting discipline makes us wise?

SCRIPTURE MEDITATION Proverbs 12:15 The way of fools seems right to them... Have you ever thought that you were making a good choice only to find out that you were very wrong? Why do we sometimes think that erroneous words and actions are good?... but the wise listen to advice. Proverbs 12:15 tells us to listen to advice, but it doesn t say we are always to follow that advice. How do we know when to heed advice, and when to say Thank you for your thoughts, but move in a different direction?

Strong s Exhaustive Concordance tells us that the Hebrew word translated here as gracious (chen) means pleasant and precious. We ve learned that wisdom comes with knowing God. How does knowing God make our words pleasant and precious?... but fools are consumed by their own lips. The word consume literally means to destroy [or] use up (dictionary.com). How do we destroy ourselves by speaking foolish words?

SCRIPTURE MEDITATION Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD gives wisdom... God is not stingy with wisdom. In fact, James 1:5 tells us that all we have to do is ask for wisdom, and God will give it generously... without finding fault. Which of your current circumstances should be met by asking God to give you wisdom?... from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. If we want to glorify God and live righteous lives that are filled with His peace, we need the knowledge and understanding that are mentioned in this verse. How do we get this knowledge and understanding what is their source?
