Page 3 Our Lady of Lourdes April 17, 2016 Dear Friends: This past Tuesday our parish received a visit by Bishop Nelson Perez. He conferred the Sacrament of Confirmation on both young people and adults in our parish. The Mass was beautiful, prayerful and uplifting. The day had started rainy, but by the time Confirmation Mass began in the afternoon, the sun shone brightly. Thanks, Bishop Perez, for bringing your joy, your gentle challenges and your love for Christ to our Confirmandi!! Since his passing in 2015, I've been talking to many parishioners about how we might effectively memorialize Father Robert Mason. With his 32 years as Pastor, and his 7 years of additional service to our people in retirement, he certainly deserves our respect, prayers and gratitude. Of the many ideas that have surfaced, one I found particularly appropriate involved the Chapel. In our parish chapel, there's a Confessional that Father Mason used for many years, hearing countless confessions. The suggestion was that we replace that confessional with a Shrine Altar dedicated to the Cure of Ars, St. John Vianney, the noted saint and parish priest who loved the ministry of Confession, and who, like Father Mason, helped many back to spiritual wholeness. The altar would also include a plaque honoring Father Mason. I'll keep you informed on the progress of this idea. And I welcome your other ideas on how we might honor and remember Father Mason. After the 10:30 a.m. Mass this weekend, at the Senior Center in the school building we will, once again, be offering a seminar on the current Real Estate market. I've invited Dennis Blachut, a noted and respect Real Estate Representative, to bring his team to offer counsel and advice to any and all who are interested. Please stop over and learn about the prospects for buying or selling in the current market. Finally, a word about being dumb. For almost thirty years, I've been traveling our nation to speak about the Sanctity of Human Life. I do this and will continue to do this because I truly believe that our nation, so richly blessed, cannot ever grow comfortable with the loss of 1.2 million preborn lives a year. We can do so much better! I mention that because most of my invitations come from audiences that are sympathetic to hearing the message. It has been, unfortunately, the rare group of pro-choicers who are even willing to listen to another viewpoint. I can count on one hand the number of secular colleges that have been open to allowing me to speak on their campus. This while they regularly make room for abortion promoters to speak. It's a bias in higher education that I've come sadly to accept as a sign of academic intolerance. So imagine my disappointment when I note that Cecile Richards, the current President of Planned Parenthood, will soon be speaking to the students of Georgetown University in Washington DC. Planned Parenthood is THE biggest performer of abortions in the USA. And its president is welcome to speak at a nominally Catholic University. If that's not just plain dumb, I don't know what is. Welcoming an enemy of life into the community to promote the culture of death. How sad. How foolish. Please join me in praying that those who head Catholic institutions will recognize that just as no sane Jewish institution would EVER invite a promoter of the Nazi banner to speak on their campus, we should NEVER provide an opportunity for those who support the termination of the defenseless unborn child to promote their life-compromising agenda. Thanks for the consideration. In the Lord of Life and Love, Msgr. Jim Lisante Pastor

We Care Blankets As our wonderful group of Care Blanket volunteers continue to meet on Wednesday mornings from 10:00-11:30am at Parish Outreach, the gifts of their love, time and talent in crocheting and knitting beautiful blankets for seriously ill children is nothing less than a beautiful thing! Since our group began in November 2009, the completed blanket count stands at 1,867 I m sure in no time at all we will be adding to this amazing number. Thank you to our lovely group of ladies for all the good work you do to bring love and comfort to many children undergoing cancer care. Outreach is happy to accept donations of yarns, crochet hooks or knitting needles in support of this effort. If you are interested in joining our group please contact Parish Outreach at 516-541-1260. Ministry of Consolation Our parish is richly blessed to have gathered a wonderful group of volunteers who make up Our Lady of Lourdes Ministry of Consolation team. The most valuable gifts we can give are the gifts that come from the heart. The precious gifts of our time, love and compassion are especially needed during the time of the loss of a loved one. Created to provide warmth, caring and personal attention to assist families in preparation for the funeral mass, this particular ministry can never have too many helping hands. Whether your interest be that of a Greeter, Lector or EM, please give some thought as to sharing your time and talents and being a part of this ministry s call to love and care for one another. Thank you so much to our coordinator, Deacon Frank Gariboldi and all our volunteers for embracing this beautiful ministry. Please call Parish Outreach at 516-541-1260 if you would like to volunteer. Thank you for your consideration. Paper Goods Drive On occasion, the folks who come to us for food assistance will ask if we can provide paper products such as toilet paper or paper towels. Food donations, as you know, remain our first priority! However, it would be a helpful addition to the folks we serve if we could offer some assistance with paper goods. For the month of April, if you would consider a donation of toilet paper or paper towels that would be a wonderful thing! Thank you for all the good you do!

Harris has chosen to focus her investigation on Daleiden and his associates rather than PP, even though the video footage so far released shows clear evidence that PP was illegally altering abortion procedures to endure intact organs targeted for harvesting then selling the organs for profit...the following organizations have contributed a total of over $81,000 to Harris' election campaigns: PP Advocacy Project Los Angeles, PP Action Fund of Pacific Southwest PAC, PP of Orange & San Bernardino Counties PAC, Vote PP Shasta Pacific, PP Advocates Mar Monte Candidate PAC...Operation Rescue is calling for the resignation of Kamala Harris for her conflict of interest and agenda-driven abuse of power." Ben Johnson reported [LifeSiteNews.com 4/5/16]: The consent form used by several Planned Parenthoods in CA and NV states, "Research from the blood from pregnant women and the tissue that has been aborted has been used to treat and find a cure for such diseases as diabetes, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, cancer and AIDS." Rep. Vicky Hartzler noted that while the federal government requires consent to be given before donations may be made legally, the government says any undue inducement may invalidate consent. Promising to cure cancer may be such an inducement. Dr. Lawrence Goldstein testified before the Select Investigative Panel on March 2, 2016 in favor of using embryonic stem cells in research and is a donor to PP. However, under oath he stated, "If it's the form that says, therapies for diseases such as Alzheimer's and all the rest have already been found, I agree, that's an inappropriate statement that should not have been made on that form. I don't know who wrote it, [but] that would not have made it past my IRB [Institutional Review Board], either." David Daleiden responded, "When a PP supporter and baby parts customer admits under oath that PP has been fraudulently inducing patient consent, it discredits all of PP's assurances that their baby parts scheme has operated legally and above-board. Law enforcement in PP-friendly jurisdictions should stop wasting taxpayer resources to assist PP in harassing citizen journalists, and should stop ignoring the evidence of real fraud, baby body parts trafficking, and criminal abortion practices right in their own backyard." ZIKA VIRUS: During the Congressional investigation hearing in March, pro-abortion witnesses claimed that a vaccine and cure for the Zika virus would require fetal tissue research. However, Dr. David Prentice of Charlotte Lozier Institute stated that there is no evidence that fetal tissue is needed. In fact, a 2012 Nobel prize was granted for a vaccine for another disease impacting preborn children using induced pluripotent stem cells which can be made from skin from an adult. "It's very similar to the Zika virus... [There is] a 100% effective vaccine against this similar virus. No fetal tissue at all was used. The scientists involved used monkey and mosquito cells, and it is the mosquito that is believed to be the culprit in Zika." Therapies have been developed using cell lines not of fetal origin including insulin for diabetes (produced in bacteria), Herceptin for breast cancer and tissue plasminogen activator for heart attck, stroke and pulmonary embolism (both developed in Chinese hamster ovary cells).
