All are invited to an Introduction to Anti-Bias/ Antiracism Education (ABAR) Workshop on Saturday, December 2, 2017, from 9.00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, 1100 E. 55th St., Chicago, IL 60615. This workshop is designed especially for educators, working in all settings, including early childhood, religious education, after school programs, K-12, public and private schools, and teacher education programs at colleges and universities. Participants will explore how bias and race prejudice develop, and how they become structured into institutions and systems. They will also gain insight into how children and adults internalize and act out of these biases. The 4 Goals of Anti-bias Education will be introduced and participants will consider ways to apply them to educational settings. Register at http://conta.cc/2zwsex1. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Synod Staff Invitation to See Bending Towards the Light: A Jazz Nativity The synod staff wish our congregations, rostered leaders, partner ministries, and ecumenical partners a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Saint Luke Church, 1500 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago, IL 60657 will present Bending Towards the Light: A Jazz Nativity on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 4 p.m. This staged production uses jazz settings of Christmas hymns and original compositions to tell the Christmas story with top Chicagoland jazz artists and dancers playing shepherds, angels and wise men. This year the composer of the piece, New York-based singer- Suitable for all ages. Admission is free. There is free parking in the garage one block north of the church. The event is a benefit for The Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago and a freewill offering is designated for the society. Dogs fostered after Hurricanes Harvey and Irma flooded shelters in Houston and Florida will be present before and after the show so concert-goers can see firsthand the Society's fine rescue and adoption work. Attend Danish Christmas Service (Dansk Julegudstjeneste) December 10 On Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 3:00 p.m., the Annual Danish Christmas Service will be held at Edison Park Lutheran Church, 6626 N. He earned his BA from St. Francis University, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and his M.Div. at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Pastor Trzynka is married to Mr. Brett Henry, and they have one son, Joseph Henry-Trzynka. They now reside in Geneva. Trinity s Sankta Lucia Fest is really a cross between a worship service and a program and includes the participation of a woman s ensemble singing seasonal selections.
