WHAT IS YOUR CATHOLIC IQ? The Miraculous Medal received liturgical approbaon (special recognion & approval) at the direcon of Alosi Cardinal Masella, Prefect of the Sacred Congregaon of Rites, in 1895. It is one of only three sacramentals in the Church to be so liturgically honored, sharing this disncon with the Rosary and a) holy water b) novenas c) Sign of the Cross d) the brown scapular. Why do we do that? CATHOLIC TRADITIONS EXPLAINED Queson: Our prayer group has been reading the lives of some saints and we were struck by how some of them thought they were such sinners. Why would such holy people think they had such serious sin? Answer: Professional athletes pracce the fundamentals of their sport over and over again, reaching for beer form, consistency, and performance. They focus on the basics, review past performances, and visualize greater success. Pracce makes beer, if not perfect! Spiritual masters such as the saints also looked for perfecon. They pracced their faith in the search for holiness, grace, and virtue. Through sacraments, prayer, study, good works, and penance, they raised their sensivity to the presence of God, the demands of the Gospel, and the workings of the Holy Spirit. They examined their consciences daily, reviewing the day for moments of failure and mes they could have been more virtuous. Therefore, anything that would interfere with their relaonship with God would be like a small black spot on a bright white wallyou can't miss it! The great saints were aware of sin and the presence of evil because they were so tuned in to the struggle between good and evil fought in their own lives, hearts, and souls. They teach us to guard against becoming desensized to sin in our lives, unaware of the harm it causes us. A goal of any spiritual pracce is to become more aware of our sinfulness so that we seek God's forgiving and healing love. Stewardship is not intangibleit's you! Knowing that we find the face of Christ in the poor, this month, through your gis, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to serve many families, providing food, money for ulity and rent bills, etc. Thank You! Sharing the Gospel For the Kids Share food with the hungry. Give clothes to the poor. Visit people who are sick. Share the good news about Jesus with people who have made bad choices. Jesus came to forgive them. God will see the loving things you do. He will reward you one day in heaven. Prayer God, help me to share what you have given to me. What Christ our King desires is that we advocate and work for those most in need among us: the poor, the unfortunate, the forsaken, the abused, and the exploited. Providing for the basic needs of others is a human right that we must strive to fulfill. If someone is hungry, feed her. If someone is without shelter, provide one. If a person requires clothes, clothe him. When others are in harm's way, find them safety. When it comes to basic human needs, it does not maer WHY a person is in need; all that maers is that someone IS. That's where you and I, who are cizens of God's eternal kingdom, come in. What we do for the least of these, we do for God. RCIA Are you interested in being bapzed into the Catholic Faith? Did you miss out on receiving Eucharist or Confirmaon?
