(Wis 1:13). Why is commotion and weeping? The child is not dead, but asleep. (Mk 5:21-43) Over and over again, e readings of is weekend cry out for us to know and believe at God is not responsible for dea, nor is to blame for e suffering we go rough when someone dies. In fact, our God sent His Son to free us from e gravest slavery at gives bir to dea sin (CCC 549). That doesn't mean we are spared e agony of it all by any means. But, it does mean we have e hope of Jesus. The picture insert above is from a painting I am still researching. It is about e raising of Jairus' daughter we hear about in today's Gospel. In e background at e doorway, you see e figure of Jesus about to enter in e midst of e suffering of a parent's heart. As it is for all moments we endure, e moment He enters everying changes...what is lost is found, what is dead is restored to life! When we celebrate freedom in our nation is week, Christians boldly celebrate at e only true freedom is not from some declaration or legislation or human power of auority. True freedom is only from Jesus Christ, and e choices we freely make must lead us closer to Him, or it is not true freedom. On e eve of our nation's day of independence, I encourage you to re-read is weekend's Scripture passages in light of who you are and whose you are. Also, keep in mind as we celebrate e 239 anniversary of e signing of e Declaration of Independence, e 56 founding faers signed e document at formally separated e 13 colonies from e British Empire and established a free nation. It is a day for us to celebrate our great nation, and to remember e religious freedoms at we enjoy as citizens and residents of America. To help facilitate our celebration of e 4 of July is year, our government will observe Independence Day on e 3 of July so at we can enjoy a day from our labors to rest and relax. As such, Saint Francis de Sales Parish will also observe e 4 of July on e 3 of July. Our traditional 4 of July Mass will be offered on Friday, e 3 at 9:30 AM. Please join us to pray, worship, and offer anksgiving to God for e gifts He has given to us and to our nation. Pax, Fr. Bline & Fr. Thomas
