INSTRUCTIONS I can only suggest how this study was originally conducted and it was very successful. First of all, we tried to arrange a very informal atmosphere with the folks sitting in a loose circle. We would begin the session by having tea, or cokes and an informal time of fellowship. Then we would have a prayer time with everyone suggesting names of those for whom we should pray. It was also mentioned each session that we expected that each individual have at least one person for whom they would agree to pray for in regards to that person s salvation. To actually begin the study the entire chapter would be read aloud with each one willing to read, taking the number of verses and dividing it by the number of people present and each one reading a portion. Then the first one on the left (a habit of mine) would begin by reading the first question and giving their answer. The verse where their answer was found must also be given. Then the leader asks if everybody agrees. Let discussion carry on as necessary but not too long. Then go to the next question and the next person until all of the fifteen questions are answered. For the discussion questions (numbers 16-17-18) each person present should give their answer once again going from the first one on the left and so on. Answer one question at a time, with each person present giving their reasons for their answer each question. Discussion can be long or short depending on how the group feels. Do not carry the class session on too long. Encourage each one to prepare his answers BEFORE the session begins if at all possible only because they will get more out of the discussion if they have thought about it. INTRODUCTION This book was given to the exiles in Babylon by Ezekiel whose name means God Is Strong. He prophesied between the years of 593 and 571 B C. In 593 B C Ezekiel was called to be a prophet while he himself was in exile in Babylon. During the first part of his ministry the temple still stood and Jerusalem had not been destroyed. When this news of Jerusalem s destruction and the total ruin of the temple, Ezekiel began to proclaim a new message of hope and final restoration of His people. God was going to being His people from the ends of the earth to once again live in their own land. Any nation that opposed them would be defeated and judged themselves
Ezekiel Chapter 1 1. What happened to Ezekiel when he was 30 years old? 2. What did the legs and feet of the four living creatures look like? 3. Describe the appearance of the living creatures.. Ezekiel Chapter 6 1. What will happen in the high places?. Verse 2. What will happen to their idols and incense altars?. Verse 3. What will happen to the dead bodies of the Israelites? Verse 4. Ezekiel Chapter 8 1. What does God say will drive Him from His sanctuary?. Verse 2. Where did Ezekiel see detestable animals?. Verse 3. What were the elders of the house of Israel doing in the darkness?. Verse 4. What were the women doing as they were sitting at the north gate of the house of the Lord?. Verse 5. Ezekiel Chapter 9 1. When the Lord said, Bring the guards of the city here. How many came and where did they come from? _ 2. Who was with them and what did he have at his side?. Verse 3. When they were to go throughout the City of Jerusalem what were they to do? The man in linen.. Verse The guards.. Verse 4. As they were going about doing their assigment, what did Ezekiel do? 5. Old men, young men, women and children were to be killed. 9. The began, what the Lord told them to do, in the temple. 10. Everyone was to be judged by what he had done. 11. Was each guard carrying a torch in his hand? 12. Was the glory of the Lord above the cherubim? 13. Were the guards told to defile the temple? 14. Was Ezekiel afraid that the Lord was going to destroy EVERYBODY? 15. Did the people say that the Lord had forsaken the land? 9
Ezekiel Chapter 10 1. When Ezekiel looked, what did he see?. Verse 2. What filled the inner court?. Verse 3. What was the man in linen commanded to do?. Verse 4. Ezekiel Chapter 11 1. Who did Ezekiel see among the 25 men at the Eastern Gate?. Verse 2. What were the people saying? 3. What did the peopple fear?. Verse 4. Judgment will be execucuted in the City of Jerusalem not at the borders. 9. While Ezekiel was prophesying both Pelatiah and Benaia died. 10. Those who have been scattered will be given the land of Israel again. 11. Wa Benaia the father of Pelatiah? 12. Had the 25 men at the eat gate killed many in the City of Jerusalem? 13. Was the Lord going to bring against them the very thing they feared 14. Was God going to give those who returned to Jerusalem a new heart of flesh? 15. Did Ezekiel tell the people I exile everything that he had seen in the vision? 11
Ezekiel Chapter 12 1. How does God describe the people among whom Ezekiel is living among? 2. What was Ezekiel told t do with his belongings? 3. What was the sign that Ezekiel was giving to the people?. Verse 4. What will the few that are spared from the sword do?. Verse 5. What will happen when the Lord speaks?. Verse 6. Because the people are a rebellious people their eyes will not see nor their ears hear. 7. The prince in Jerusalem is the same as King Zedekiah. (See Jeremiah 39:4) 8. Ezekiel covered his face so he could not see as a sign that Zedekiah s eyes would be put out. 9. God said that the days are near when all the visions would be fulfilled. 10. The people were saying that the visions that Ezekiel spoke of were a long way off. 11. Did Ezekiel dig through the wall with a pick axe? 12. Did Ezekiel tell the people that God had said, as he had done would be done to them? 13. Were the people going to drink their water in despair because of the violence of those who live there? 14. Was God going to prove the proverb currently used in Jerusalem? 15. Did God say that while they lived they would see the visions fulfilled? 12
Ezekiel Chapter 13 1. Describe the visions and divinations of the false prophets. 2. How many times does God say, Then they will know that I am the Lord?. Verse 3. Ezekiel Chapter 14 1. What had the men, who came to Ezekiel set up in their hearts?. Verse 2. When the people go to a prophet, who will answer him?. Verse 3. Ezekiel Chapter 15 1. What can the wood from a vine be used for?. Verse 2. After a vine is cast into the fire, what is it used for?. Verse 3. For what purpose did God give the vine?. Verse 4. Who will be treated the same as the vine?. Verse 5. Even if they come out of the fire, what will happen to them?. Verse 6. There are some things that can be made out of the vine to make it useful. 7. Pegs to hang things cannot be made out of the vine. 8. Even though it was not useful in the beginning, when it is thrown in the fire it becomes useful. 9. God will use the people in Jerusalem as fuel for the fire. 10. The land will be made desolate because the people have been unfaithful. 11. Was the vine useful for anything at all? 12. Were the people of Jerusalem useful for anything? 13. Will God set his face against the city of Jerusalem? 14. Were trees of the forest used as fuel for the fire? 15. Is God trying many things to let the people know that He is the Lord? 15
Ezekiel Chapter 16 1. What does the Lord say about the place where Jerusalem was born, and who were her faather and mother? 2. What did the Lord say he did for Jerusalem when she was old enough for love? Verse 3. When God was finished with her, what place did Jerusalem have among the nations? 4. When a mob is brought against Jerusalem it will bring her praise. 10. Jerusalem broke her covenant with God therefor she will get what she deserves. 11. Was Jerusalem s food fine flour, honey and olive oul? 12. When the Lord gathers both Jerusalem s lovers and those she hates will He strip her in front of them so they will see her nakedness? 13. Will Jerusalem be sentanced with the punishment for those who commit adulry? 14. Was Sodom called Jerusalem s sister? 15. Did God say he would establish an everlasting covenant with Jerusalem? f 16
Ezekiel Chapter 17 1. Where did the first eagle plant the shoot taken from the top of a cedar tree? 2. What did the shoot become?. Verse 3. What will finally happen to the shoot where it grew?. Verse 4. Whaat will happen to the king who rebelled against Babylon?. Verse 5. 6. The seed that was planted in fertile soil was put there because there was water there. 7. Even though the vine would be transplanted, it will still shrivel up and die. 8. The king of Babylon made a treaty with a member of the roal family. 9. Egypt will help the king of Jeruslem to win the war against Babylon. 10. God will dry up the good tree and make the dry tree florish. 11. Was the first eagle all one color? 12. Did the people know what Ezekiel meantwhen he spoke to them abut the eagles? 13. Will the new king of Jerusalem suvive even though he broke his trreaty with Babylon? 14. Will the new king of Jerusalem also go to Babylon and die there? 15. Will the cedar tree bear fruit? 17
Ezekiel Chapter 18 1. What the parable mean when it says he fathers eat sour grapes and the children s teeth are set on edge? 2. If a man will do the ten righteous things that are listed, what will happen to him?. Verse 3. What happens to a fiolent s on who does NOT do those ten things?. Verse 4. What will happen to the soul that sins?. Verse 5. How will a man get rid of all of his sins?.. Verse 6. There is a proverb that will no longer be quoted in Israel. 7. If a righteous man has an evil son, and he has a righteous son two will die and one will live. 8. It is the soul that sins what will surely die. 9. If a wicked man turns from his ways, he will live. 10. God does not take pleasure in the death of anyone. 11. Do two of the ten things thaat a righteous man does, include women? 12. Does a violent son shed blood as well as do the prohibited things listed? 13. Does a righteous man require a pledge for a loan? 14. If a righteous man begins to sin, will his righteous acts save him? 15. Were evil men given another plea to repent? 18
Ezekiel Chapter 19 1. What was the lament that was to be taken up?.. Verse 2. What happened to the first young lion?.. Verse 3. What happened to the second young lion?.. Verse 4. What were the branches of the vine good enough to b used for?.. Verse 5. What was the lament to be used for?.. Verse 6. Jerusalem was symbolized as a lion, and a vine. 7. The second young lion was a symbol for King Hezekiah. (See Jeremiah 39:5-7) 8. Jerusalem is called their mother in this chpater. 9. Abundant water results in strong branches. 10. Fire destroyed the vine. 11. Was a leader of Jerusalme taken in exile to Egypt? 12. Was the strength of King Hezekial called a roar? 13. Did the vine planted in the vineyard grow to be taller than the other vines? 14. Did the west wind damade the vine? 15. Was he vine later planted in a desert? 19
Ezekiel Chapter 20 1. Who came to call uppon the Lord but were not allowed to? 2. What idols were the people told to get rid of?. Verse 3. Why did God refrain from killing ALL the ones who were coming out of Egypt?. Verse 4. Who did the Israelites want to be like?. Verse 5. Will there be some who come out of the nations not be allowed to enter Jerusalem again? 14. Will God deal with them for His name sake instead of their evil ways? 15. Did the people think that God was just speaking in parables? 20
Ezekiel Chapter 21 1. What will happen to both the righteous and the wicked?. Verse 2. Why will he sword be sharpened and why will it be polished?. Verse 3. What will happen when the Lod slaps His hands together also? 4. What two cities will the king of Babylon come against?. Verse 5. When people shut their eyes to the keeping of the Sabbath Day, is God defamed among them? 15. Is God s wrath called His fiery anger? 22
Ezekiel Chapter 23 1. Who were Oholah and Oholibah?. Verse 2. What country did Oholibah represent? Verse 3. What will happen to Oholah to in the end?. Verse 4. How will Oholibah be punished?. Both Oholah and Oholibah lusted after the Assyrians. 9. Oholibah will drink of her sister s cup. 10. Righteous men will punish the two sisters as they would a prostitute. 11. Were all of the men the sisters lusted after handsome men? 12. In the end will Oholibah s lovers be brought against her? 13. Were parts of their bodies to be cuo off? 14. Did the sisters sacrifice their children to idols and then right away into the temple? 15. Will God put an end to the lewedness in the land? 23
