7 October 1999 This is the first cut of what I hope to eventually evolve into a professionally printed and bound book showcasing the history of the Frerking family in America. The information contained within is primarily derived from the Frerking Family History Book compiled by Loberta Runge in the spring of 1990. As far as I know, this book is a faithful reproduction of her work with several additions and corrections (there are no pictures, articles, or interesting tidbits of history in this version but I won t be leaving that out forever). I m releasing this now for several reasons. I d like to get it in the public eye so more folks can help me hone the information. I feel that I ve reached a point that the information is useful you ll find that the book is fully indexed, making it quite easy to look up people (assuming that you know their proper name and/or that I have it correctly entered). Please note that females are listed and indexed by their maiden names. For those of you having a copy of Loberta s book I ve added cross-references to the entries in this book, so now it s quite easy to look up people in her book. If there s something like ref: (C)46 in an entry in this book, you should find that person on page (C)46 of Loberta s book. So, what do I want you to do with this book? First off, enjoy it if you re like me, you ll find the information fascinating. Check the accuracy and completeness of the data for the areas of the family you re familiar with. Let me know if you have any additions of corrections. There are currently many holes in the information, which is why I m not running off to the local printer just yet. I think we ve got a pretty good foundation laid, but I d like to get it a bit further along before we do that for the first time. What do I perceive the holes to be? Well, as you browse through the book you ll see a lot of names that are listed as Unknown particularly with the maiden names of women who married into our family. I d like to fill in these as much as possible. I d also like to add as much detail to existing entries as possible if a middle name is missing; or if a general date can be replaced by a more specific date, please let me know. Also, I m sure there are many marriages, births, and deaths that can be added. I ve added several that happened since Loberta s book was printed, but I imagine there are more. If you are a Frerking descendant and can t find yourself (or any of your known relatives) in this book, let me know this book only contains information about one branch of the Frerking family (granted, a very large and bushy branch) descendants of Johann and Dorothee Frerking. Dorothee brought the family to America on a ship called the Gen l Washington, arriving in New Orleans on Nov 24, 1845. I ve come across two, maybe three other branches of the Frerking family. I d like to start compiling information on those branches also and hopefully we can find a connection somewhere. This branch is from Esperke, Germany; one other branch is confirmed to be from Rodewald, Germany (close to Esperke); and the other branches have an unknown origin at this point. In regards to accuracy of information: I m interested in being as accurate as possible, and will be making an effort over time to get copies of source documents for the information contained within. As you might imagine, getting source documents for every name and date in this book would be a very difficult task indeed and the chances of it happening are pretty much non-existent. It would be helpful if you could help me out on that quest though if you have source documents (birth certificates, death certificates, etc) or other interesting documents, pictures, etc I d sure appreciate getting a copy. of the more interesting documents may find their way into future copies of this book (unless you have an objection to that please let me know if you do). Feel free to make copies of this material in whole or in part. Obviously, that meets the current goal of getting more eyes on the info (and hopefully more additions and corrections passed back to me). I only ask that you include these first few pages with any copy you make so the person receiving the copy gets my contact information and thoughts about where we re headed. I d like to thank everyone who has helped directly and indirectly with this book that obviously includes Loberta and the folks who helped with her book.
