They successfully defended the Church against internal and external foes. Cardinal among serious internal threats was Gnosticism, a heresy that almost disestablished the young Church. The Apostolic Fathers succeeded in grounding the Church on a truly Apostolic foundation. They contributed greatly to the spiritual, dogmatic, and liturgical stability of the early Church. They include Clement of Rome, Ignatios, Hermas, Polycarp, Papias, and the authors of some well-known Epistle and the treatise Didache. Enter in Quietness, Rest in Prayer, Worship in Reverence, Depart in Peace to Serve A Note Regarding Holy Communion: Since we understand Communion to mean that we have all things in common, sharing an identical faith, only those who are members of the Orthodox Church and who have prepared themselves through prayer, fasting, and recent confession may participate in Holy Communion. We invite all, however, to partake of the blessed bread which is distributed at the dismissal. Confessions are heard by special appointment. The Eucharistic fast begins at midnight on Saturday and ends with the receiving of Holy Communion. Please see Fr. Elie if you have any questions or for inquiries on how to become a full member of the Church. Even if you fall a thousand times because of the withdrawal of Gods grace, rise up again each time, and keep on doing so until the day of your death. ~ John of Karpathos Fee schedule for the use of the Sanctuary for the following services: Baptism: Member- $100 (Plus offering to clergy & cost of choir) Non-Member- $200 Wedding: Member- $300 Non-Member- $600

Sunday, August 2, 2015 Ninth Sunday After Pentecost & Ninth Sunday of Matthew Tone: 8 Eothinon: 9 Troparion of the Resurrection: Tone 8 From the heights Thou didst descend, O compassionate One, and Thou didst submit to the three-day burial, that Thou might deliver us from passion; Thou art our life and our Resurrection, O Lord, glory to Thee. Troparion of St. Stephen the Archdeacon: Tone 4 (**Be quick to anticipate**) The crown of the Kingdom hath adorned the brow of thy head * because of the contests that thou hast endured for Christ God, thou first of the martyred Saints; * for when thou hadst censured the Jews madness, thou sawest * Christ thy Savior standing at the right hand of the Father. * O Stephen, ever pray Him for us, that He would save our souls. Troparion of the Dormition: Tone 1 In giving birth, Thou didst keep Thy virginity and in thy repose, Thou didst not forsake the world, O Theotokos, for Thou art the mother of life, and Thou didst pass over into life; and through thy intercession from death Thou dost redeem our souls. Kontakion of The Transfiguration of Christ: Tone 7 Thou wast transfigured on the mount, and Thy Disciples, in so far as they were able, beheld Thy glory, O Christ our God; so that, when they should see Thee crucified, they would remember that all Thy suffering was voluntary, and could declare to all the world that Thou art truly the effulgent Splendor of the Father.

EPISTLE 1 Corinthians 3:9-17 Prokeimenon: Make your vows to the Lord our God and perform them. Verse: God is known in Judah; his name is great in Israel. The reading is from Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians Brethren, we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and another man is building upon it. Let each man take care how he builds upon it. For no other foundation can any one lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw - each man's work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any man's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If any one destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and that temple you are. GOSPEL Matthew 14:22-34 At that time, Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds he went up to the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but the boat was in the middle of the sea, beaten by the waves; for the wind was against it. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus came to them, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, "It is a ghost!" And they cried out of fear. But immediately, Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Take heart, it is I; have no fear." And Peter answered him, saying, "Lord, if it is you, bid me come to you on the water." Jesus said, "Come." So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus; but when he saw the mighty wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, "Lord, save me." Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, "O man of little faith, why did you doubt?" And when they got into the boat, the wind became calm. And those in the boat came and worshipped Jesus, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God." And when they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennes'aret.

Coffee Hour Sponsorships The Parish Council has decided to implement a new system to organize our coffee hours. There are two ways to handle this: when a couple, family, or an individual decides to sponsor the coffee hour, you may do it on your own which entails purchasing the pastry & juice, making the coffee, setting up the table, and cleaning up. The second option is to donate $ 75.00 to the church so that a Parish Council member will handle the coffee hour on your behalf. Please make check to St. Mary Church for coffee sponsorship and earmark Coffee Hour. If you would like to sponsor a coffee hour, please call the church office and speak with Sheryl. ** ALL Coffee hour s will now be held at the Parish Center following Liturgy.** Date: Sponsored by: Sponsored for: August 2nd The David Family George Sippi David (5 years) August 9th Caesar & Therese El Khoury Health of their Family August 16th Nabil & Gloria Baalbaki Health of their Family August 23rd St. Mary Church Feast Day Dinner August 30th Walid & Mirna Nakhoul Salim Audi (3 years) September 6th The Kilsey Family Ethel Kilsey (40 Day) September 13th Dr. Zeyad & Norma Morcos Elias Morcos (son) September 20th Open for sponsorship September 27th Open for sponsorship October 4th Open for sponsorship October 11th Open for sponsorship October 18th Open for sponsorship October 25th Open for sponsorship November 1st Open for sponsorship November 8th No Coffee Hour 2015 Holiday Bazaar November 15th Open for sponsorship November 22nd Open for sponsorship December 6th Open for sponsorship December 13th Open for sponsorship December 20th Open for sponsorship PRAYERS ARE BEING OFFERED FOR GOOD HEALTH AND BLESSING OF: April Gentes Robert Offered by: George & Sandra Matook Mark Hashway Offered by: Elaine Wilbur The David Family Offered by: Nabil & Salwa Khoury Bette Ayoub & Family The David Family Offered by: Ray & Leila Trabulsi The David Family Bette & Philip Ayoub Craig Barone Offered by: Samy & Helen Morcos Bette Ayoub Offered by: Barbara Aubin & Family Nancy Penta & Family George & Donna David & Family Susan Warzycha & Al Delpape & Family Philip & Bette Ayoub & Family Barbara Aubin & Family Nancy Penta & Family George David & Family Susan Warzycha & Al Delpape & Family Offered by: Elaine Gauthier 5 Year Memorial Service A 5 Year Memorial Service is being offered for the servant of God George Sippi David by The David Family.
