Bob Iabichella Dear Brothers, Well Easter is upon us and the fish fry is going very well. I would like to thank those brothers in advance that helped in the kitchen and serving and especially to Leon for putting it all together which is a tough job. Thank you everyone. The Lady s Tea went quite well and they raised what I was told around $11,000.00 for the AVPCC. Thanks to the Brothers that were servers and thank you to the Lady s Knights that put it all together. On March 8 th the AVPCC had their ribbon cutting on the 4G Ultra Sound Machine, what a great turnout we had there. With the three Grand Knights one from each council. Palmdale, Quartz Hill and Lancaster. Thank you to Father Vaughn Winters of Saint Mary s and Father Leo Dechant from Father Sera for attending and blessing the ultra sound machine. I would like to thank Vince Interante for putting it all together and mostly PGK Tim Loebs that without him working on this to have Supreme matches what all the Councils did, the machine would have never been bought. The match was $17,000.00 plus. We had a wonderful Saint Paddy s Day Dinner; to bad I don t remember it. But what I understand by our Deputy Grand Knight Steve Navarro everyone had a great time. Thank you to Brother Steve Navarro and Brother Jay Di Silvestri for a great job. Thank you again Brother Leon for a wonderful dinner, I do remember the dinner. We also had a first and second degree which went off very well and brought in 5 new members. We have quite a few brothers that have not renewed there membership. If you know of anyone please talk to them and see if you can convince them to pay their dues and return to a member in good standing. April also means it is time for Officer nominations. If you are a 3rd Degree Knight then you are eligible to run for an officer s position. Talking about elections, there are some seats in the Columbus Club that will be opening up. God Bless, Robert Iabichella Grand Knight 2

Father Tom Baker SEE THE GOOD Saturday, March 15, I went to the detention camp in Lake Hughes, Munz/Mendenhall, to hear confessions and celebrate Mass with the young men. I used an apple to explain a gospel message. Actually, I used the apple core. You see, I was taking a walk with Jesus and I saw an apple core lying on the ground, all dirty and rotten, with ants on it, and I picked it up to throw away. But Jesus said not to and asked for the apple. After I gave it to Him, He broke it open, revealing the seeds inside. Jesus always sees the life inside, the potential seed of faith that is there. I told those young men that although they may appear rotten and dirty on the outside and by the fact that they are locked up at this time in their life, God sees the seed of faith in each one of them. God sees that seed of faith in each one of us. We need to look beyond the outer layer, as God does. We need to stop judging a book by its cover and attempt to uncover the presence of God in others we meet. Sometimes it happens that we talk about things without all the facts or we judge a situation by its cover. This can easily lead to destructive talk we term gossip. The Modern Catholic Dictionary defines gossip as: idle talk, especially about others. The morality of gossip is determined by the degree to which time is wasted in useless conversations, by the failure in justice or charity committed against others, and by the damage done to people s reputation by those who gossip. The book of Sirach says: never repeat gossip, and you will not be reviled, and St. Paul in writing to the Corinthians hoped he would find: no rivalry, jealousy, fury, selfishness, slander, gossip, conceit and disorder (I Corinthian 12:20). Lent is an excellent opportunity to root out those things in our lives that are non-productive, like gossip or unfair judgment. I pray we all have honorable conversations that build up one another and the Body of Christ. Perhaps you remember the proverb my Mom taught me as a youngster: If you can t say anything nice, don t say anything at all. Let us not tear down but build up and let us try to see like Jesus those inner seeds of faith. Peace. Fr. Tom 3

Vince Interrante Dear Brother Knights, During the last six years that I have been writing these Newsletters, I had the opportunity to read and study volumes of Pro-life life material that were not only highly informative but greatly inspiring as well. Among all of these however, I still come back, again and again, to reread the profound words that were spoken and written by what I believe was the greatest pro-life leader of all time, Blessed Mother Teresa. On February 5,1994, just three years before she died, this humble, gentle loving woman, was invited to speak at the annual National Prayer Breakfast in Washington D.C. Back then she was called Mother Teresa of Calcutta, a fondly remembered humanitarian who won the Noble Peace Prize in 1971. President Bill Clinton, first lady Hillary Clinton, and Vice President Al Gore were on hand, sitting in anticipation of honoring Mother Teresa s works of mercy but not really knowing what she had to say. Neither did the many who represented a variety of faiths and usually tried to steer away from controversy. But that changed when Mother Teresa came up to the podium. The words she spoke were pure and true and were followed by a prolonged standing ovation from all except the president and his entourage. The following words are extracts from that speech. The entire speech can be found at the following Internet address: http://www.orthodoxytoday.org/articles4/motherteresaabortion.php I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child - a direct killing of the innocent child - murder by the mother herself. And if we accept that a mother can kill her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? By abortion, the mother does not learn to love, but kills even her own child to solve her problems. And by abortion, the father is told that he does not have to take any responsibility at all for the child he has brought into the world. Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching the people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. That is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion. I know that couples have to plan their family and for that there is natural family planning. The way to plan the family is natural family planning, not contraception. In destroying the power of giving life, of loving; through contraception, a husband or wife is doing something to self. This turns the attention to self and so it destroys the gift of love in him or her. In loving, the husband and wife must turn the attention to each other as happens in natural family planning, and not to self, as happens in contraception. Once that living love is destroyed by contraception, abortion follows very easily. Yours in Christ, Vincent D. Interrante 4
