Dear Friends in Christ, Have you ever had a moment when you re talking to someone and you realize that you re not having a conversation, because they re the only one talking, or you are witnessing - or entangled in - an argument where both people are talking and no one is listening? A conversation where people actually talk, listen, ask good questions, because they re genuinely interested, those are rare gifts. Ministry, the work of serving God and serving each other, the stuff we are all called into as disciples of Jesus, is truly a conversation. We listen and speak only because we have listened to and have been spoken to by the One who formed us from dust and loves us into being. This summer we will begin to listen more carefully, to each other and to our neighbors. We will begin with small gatherings, six to eight people, at a variety of locations. Some folks call such gatherings Cottage Meetings. Others call them focus groups. You know what I hope for them to be: real, honest conversations. I ll be responsible for facilitating and taking notes. This will be an opportunity for every single person to be in a small discussion group with your pastor and to say whatever it is you would like to contribute. This listening and speaking honestly could not be more important as we discover how to be the church together as our presiding Bishop Eaton urges us. We are not here to have a -versation in which I make idiosyncratic changes or in which I am the sole spokesperson to the Old West End from our community. We will have conversations, intimate communications held carefully and with many neighbors to discover where God is moving! As Bishop Daniel said at my installation, God speaks in symphony. God is speaking in our neighborhood. We are called to attune our ears and our eyes as we communicate and to attune the wholeness of our bodies in prayer and worship so that we might discover what both churches and secret agents must always discover with both excitement and apprehension: what is our next mission. Stay on the lookout for sign-up sheets to join in the conversation. My goal is that I will be able to listen to every single stakeholder in this assembly of disciples in a setting of six to eight people. And now to the One at work within us, who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than we can ever ask or imagine, to that One glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. (Ephesians 3:20-21) Grace and peace in Jesus name, Pastor Chris Hanley

Thank you for your prayers, cards, and visits. I m doing great! Kathy Pinkstaff *********** The family of Dorothy Rehder would like to thank everyone for their kind words, hugs, love, and prayers we received during this very difficult time. The luncheon after the service was delicious and provided us time to share our memories together. Glenwood was always an important part of her life and the friendships she had made were very special. Thank you also for the cards and memorials we ve received. ************ Sue Sommerfield's family extends their heartfelt thank you to the community of Glenwood and the staff who did so much to make the day a wonderful tribute to Sue's dedication to service at her church. We'd thank everyone by name; but so very many of you were involved, and we don't want to accidentally leave out anyone. In Romans 12:13 it is written: Share with the Lord's people who are in need. Practice hospitality. And that, you all did. She planned the Service, and you made it deeply meaningful. We so appreciated hearing the stories you shared. And we were sure she'd be happy with the luncheon! The beauty and warmth of Glenwood's Memorial Service for Sue will long be remembered by us, and by all who attended. To my church family, Oh, how grateful I was for the cards and I did so enjoy the visits, especially Pastor Chris who gave me communion. We had conversations that probably never would have happened had I not been in the hospital. He s a keeper! With the TLC my daughter and her hubby are giving me, I m on the road to recovery. Thank you, God! Esther Rochte If you d like to send Esther a note, her address currently is 14640 W. Diane Dr., Camden MI 49232. KROGER COMMUNITY REWARDS We thank those who have designated Glenwood as the recipient of their Kroger Community Reward points. We received a check for $143.78 for this past quarter. Thank you!
