Introduction Partaking of Others Sins Even without committing the same sin, we can share in the sins of others Common thinking today I would not commit such a sin but if others do it that s their business. Implication is, as long as we don t commit these sins, there is no way we can share or partake of these sins of others In relation to others sins, we try to be neutral to avoid offending others 2 Introduction But the Scriptures teach we must not only seek to avoid sinning ourselves but must avoid partaking of others sins While each individual is accountable to the Lord, we also can be guilty of sharing, partaking, in others sins whether we actually commit the same sins or not Some ways we partake in others sins Commit Same Sin With Others Pro 1:10 My son, if sinners entice you, Do not consent. Pro 1:11 If they say, "Come with us, Let us lie in wait for blood, Let us ambush the innocent without cause; Pro 1:12 Let us swallow them alive like Sheol, Even whole, as those who go down to the pit; 3 4 Commit Same Sin With Others Commit Same Sin With Others Pro 1:13 We will find all kinds of precious wealth, We will fill our houses with spoil; Pro 1:14 Throw in your lot with us, We shall all have one purse," Pro 1:15 My son, do not walk in the way with them. Keep your feet from their path, 5 Act 5:1 But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, Act 5:2 and kept back some of the price for himself, with his wife's full knowledge, and bringing a portion of it, he laid it at the apostles' feet. Act 5:7 Now there elapsed an interval of about three hours, and his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 6

Commit Same Sin With Others Act 5:8 And Peter responded to her, "Tell me whether you sold the land for such and such a price?" And she said, "Yes, that was the price." Act 5:9 Then Peter said to her, "Why is it that you have agreed together to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out Commit Same Sin As Others At Different Times Act 7:51 "You men who are stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears are always resisting the Holy Spirit; you are doing just as your fathers did. Act 7:52 "Which one of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? They killed those who had previously announced the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you have now as well." 7 become; 8 Verbal Consent Act 8:1 Saul was in hearty agreement with putting him to death. And on that day a great persecution began against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. Verbal Consent Act 26:10 "And this is just what I did in Jerusalem; not only did I lock up many of the saints in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests, but also when they were being put to death I cast my vote against them. 9 10 Silent Consent Eph 5:6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Eph 5:7 Therefore do not be partakers with them; Eph 5:8 for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light 11 Silent Consent Eph 5:9 (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), Eph 5:10 trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Eph 5:11 Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; 12

Silent Consent Eph 5:12 for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. Eph 5:13 But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. Flattery Pro 27:5 Better is open rebuke Than love that is concealed. Pro 27:6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But deceitful are the kisses of an enemy. 13 14 Inadequate Rebuke 1Sa 2:22 Now Eli was very old; and he heard all that his sons were doing to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who served at the doorway of the tent of meeting. 1Sa 2:23 He said to them, "Why do you do such things, the evil things that I hear from all these people? Inadequate Rebuke 1Sa 3:13 "For I have told him that I am about to judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons brought a curse on themselves and he did not rebuke them. 15 16 Inadequate Rebuke Sinful Influence 1Co 5:1 It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles, that someone has his father's wife. 1Co 5:2 You have become arrogant and have not mourned instead, so that the one who had done this deed would be removed from your midst. 17 1Co 15:33 Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals." 18

Sinful Influence 1Co 8:9 But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. 1Co 8:10 For if someone sees you, who have knowledge, dining in an idol's temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be strengthened to eat things sacrificed to idols? 19 Sinful Influence 1Co 8:11 For through your knowledge he who is weak is ruined, the brother for whose sake Christ died. 1Co 8:12 And so, by sinning against the brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. 1Co 8:13 Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause my brother to stumble. 20 Approving Corrupt Elders 1Ti 5:17 The elders who rule well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. 1Ti 5:18 For the Scripture says, "YOU SHALL NOT MUZZLE THE OX WHILE HE IS THRESHING," and "The laborer is worthy of his wages." Approving Corrupt Elders 1Ti 5:19 Do not receive an accusation against an elder except on the basis of two or three witnesses. 1Ti 5:20 Those who continue in sin, rebuke in the presence of all, so that the rest also will be fearful of sinning. 21 22 Approving Corrupt Elders 1Ti 5:21 I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of His chosen angels, to maintain these principles without bias, doing nothing in a spirit of partiality. 1Ti 5:22 Do not lay hands upon anyone too hastily and thereby share responsibility for the sins of others; keep yourself free from sin. 23 Approving Those Who Teach Error 2Jn 1:9 Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son. 2Jn 1:10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting; 24

Approving Those Who Teach Error 2Jn 1:11 for the one who gives him a greeting participates in his evil deeds. Jer 23:13 "Moreover, among the prophets of Samaria I saw an offensive thing: They prophesied by Baal and led My people Israel astray. 25 26 Jer 23:14 "Also among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a horrible thing: The committing of adultery and walking in falsehood; And they strengthen the hands of evildoers, So that no one has turned back from his wickedness. All of them have become to Me like Sodom, And her inhabitants like Gomorrah. Rev 2:14 'But I have a few things against you, because you have there some who hold the teaching of Balaam, who kept teaching Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit acts of immorality. 27 28 Rev 2:20 'But I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and leads My bond-servants astray so that they commit acts of immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.
