Psalm 103 Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed. Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel: The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.

As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord's love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children's children with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts. The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all. Praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word. Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will. Praise the Lord, all his works everywhere in his dominion. Praise the Lord, O my soul. The foundation of Northumberland Christian School is the Word of God. Because God has spoken, we can know truth. We can know the path of blessing. We can know God! The memorization of God s Word undergirds everything we do at NCS. We read and sing and chant the Scriptures so that the Word of Christ will dwell in us richly.

KINDERGARTEN Psalm 103 encourages us to stir up our souls daily to praise God for who he is and for all that he does. Memorizing God s word helps us develop a God-centered view of life. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (James 1:17) Psalm 103:7 He made known his ways to Moses. Our God reveals himself through wonderful words. We learn to read so that we can better understand and know and love our God and his world. We give him glory by rejoicing in the world he has made. FIRST GRADE God reveals His glory not only in His Word but in His creation. His Word continually points us to creation to teach us of God. Psalm 103:5 God satisfies your desires with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle s. And he will raise you up on eagle s wings, bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the sun and hold you in the palm of his hand.

SECOND GRADE We began our year of second grade history by studying communities. Our first history bulletin board of the year illustrated various sizes of communities and was entitled: Our Communities, but God s Domain. To understand God s dominion over this world and his sovereign rule in history (Psalm 103:19, 22), we have been trying to wrap our minds around the bigness or vastness of this world over which our God has dominion. We have learned a song about God s Domain: Which is biggest? Which is largest? Which is greatest in its size? First the PLANETS are the biggest; That should come as no surprise! From each corner of our planet, Name the giant parts of land. CONTINENTS is what we call them; There are seven, and each is grand! Then the continents are divided; Borders form each smaller part. Call them COUNTIRES or a nation; Formed for people of one heart. In our country there are sections; Some seem big and others small. They re the STATES; they are united. Fifty states, each one for all! Rural farm lands, towns and cities, Spread throughout this world we trod. Many people, all so different; Yet we all belong to God.

THIRD GRADE Psalm 103:22 Praise the Lord, all his works everywhere in his dominion. Praise the Lord, O my soul. We are called to praise the Lord everywhere and in everything we do, which includes the classroom, and one way the 3rd grade loves to make a joyful noise is by reciting the grammar jingles as we learn about different parts of speech. Grammar helps us understand the structure and precision and beauty of language. We have a God who communicates truth to us through language which he uses with beauty and precision. FOURTH GRADE In Psalm 103 the Sovereign Lord relates to those who fear him as a compassionate Father. He likens his children to flowers of the field As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field. This simile is made more precious for fourth graders, as we study plant life with Mrs. Blank. We would like to test your plant I.Q. and conclude our presentation with a benediction drawn from this wonderful doxology, But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children s children with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts. (Psalm 103:17-18)

FIFTH GRADE Psalm 103:22 Praise the Lord, all his works everywhere in his dominion. Praise the Lord, O my soul. In history class, fifth grade has learned about the early explorers, their desire to take the Gospel to new lands, and how they praised God in these new lands. SIXTH GRADE Our study of American history this year has included learning about Harriet Tubman. Harriet was born into slavery, and when she was about thirty years old, she fled from her cruel owner. Harriet was instrumental in helping over three hundred slaves escape to freedom using the Underground Railroad. Harriet was given the nickname "the Moses of her People" since she, like the biblical Moses, led slaves to freedom. More important than physical freedom, we have a Savior, Jesus, who has provided spiritual freedom for all who confess their sins and receive His gift of salvation. Jesus is our Redeemer, who pays the ransom price to rescue us from slavery. We have been bought with a price, and we are not our own. We belong to Jesus. Psalm 103: 3-4 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion

K-12 CHAPEL Romans 11:36 For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen! IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul. It is well. with my soul; it is well, it is well with my soul. Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, let this blest assurance control, that Christ has regarded my helpless estate, and has shed his own blood for my soul. It is well. with my soul; it is well, it is well with my soul. My sin O the bliss of this glorious thought! my sin, not in part, but the whole, is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more; praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! It is well. with my soul; it is well, it is well with my soul.

O Lord, haste the day when the faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll, the trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend, Even so it is well with my soul. It is well. with my soul; it is well, it is well with my soul. words by Horatio G. Spafford, 1873; music by Philip P. Bliss, 1876 PSALM 103 BLESSED IS THE ONE Blessed is the one whose sins are overcome, whom God has sheltered deep within His grace. Blessed is the one who trusts in God, the Son, His steadfast love, the sinner s hiding place. Jesus, your blood covers all my sins. Jesus, your love draws my heart to sing, What a savior, Jesus! I will always hide at my Savior s side. I find my refuge in His sovereign care. When the waters rise, God will hear my cries. His steadfast love will hold me safely there. Jesus, your blood covers all my sins. Jesus, your love draws my heart to sing, What a savior, Jesus! Blessed Is the One, Words and Music: Doug Plank; c 2008 Sovereign Grace Worship (ASCAP). JESUS, THANK YOU

Psalm 32:1-2 - ESV Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. transgression (disobeying) We are REBELS sin (falling short) We are FAILURES iniquity (twistedness cannot be what we were meant to be) We are SLAVES PROPITIATION Jesus bore God s wrath for us. JUSTIFICATION We are declared righteous. REDEMPTION We are bought with a ransom and rescued from slavery. We are not our own; we are bought with a price. Why should God accept you? NOT because I have tried to do my best NOT because I am better than others NOT because I have strong faith BUT Because JESUS lived for me Because JESUS died for me Because JESUS bought me to be his own I Peter 3:18: For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God

Mark 2:3-5, 10-12 Some men came, bringing to him a paralytic, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and, after digging through it, lowered the mat the paralyzed man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, Son, your sins are forgiven.... But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins... He said to the paralytic, I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home. He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, We have never seen anything like this! YOU NEED DOCTOR JESUS! YOUR SOUL IS SICK. ONLY JESUS CAN HELP YOU. JESUS WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE. COME TO DOCTOR JESUS! IN CHRIST ALONE In Christ alone my hope is found, he is my light, my strength, my song; this cornerstone, this solid ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease! My comforter, my all in all, Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless babe! This gift of love and righteousness, scorned by the ones he came to save: Till on that cross as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied! For ev ry sin on him was laid; here in the death of Christ I live. There in the ground his body lay, Light of the world by darkness slain: then bursting forth in glorious day up from the grave he rose again! And as he stands in victory sin s curse has lost its grip on me, for I am his and he is mine bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the pow r of Christ in me; from life s first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No pow r of hell, no scheme of man, can ever pluck me from his hand; till he returns or calls me home, here in the pow r of Christ I ll stand! Words, Stuart Townend, Music, Keith Getty c 2001 Kingsway s Thankyou Music (CCLI 33557)

THANK YOU! Thank you for coming to Grandparents Day! How we thank God for you and for your grandchildren! It is a precious privilege to work with these children day after day, and we know that the Lord uses your prayers and support and encouragement to help this ministry to prosper. It is always a delight to have you visit with us and to have the opportunity to share something of what God is doing at NCS. Some of you have been a part of the NCS family for many years, having sent your own children to NCS! Others of you have joined our family in recent years. Your enthusiasm and support have been a great blessing to us! We thank God for such a wonderful group of families who understand the importance of a God-centered education. We continue to rejoice in God s provision for NCS in so many ways forty-four years of ministry, 393 graduates, 13 alumni currently serving on staff, 61 of our 270 current students who have a parent who attended NCS, enthusiastic new families, 30 new students in K-12th grade, and an army of parents, grandparents, and friends who support the school by their prayers, their finances, and their time and encouragement. God has been so good to us! How exciting it is to see one generation declaring the greatness of God to the next generation! Your ongoing prayers and support have undergirded our school through many years. Pray that the Lord will continue to use the ministry of NCS in the lives of your grandchildren and others. Pray that the Lord will continue to provide for the annual NCS Fund to cover the $1,000 per student that tuition does not cover. (The need this year is for $235,000.) Most of all, pray that God will continue to work mightily by His Spirit in the hearts and lives of these students, to stir up in them a passion for God that will be evident in their learning, service, and worship. By His Grace, Pastor Rees
